Thanks full duplex! Keep in mind with autos outdoors, sunlight duration is the name of the game. Get em up and fast... Our soils here are pretty fertile, but they do need amending.. I use the same plots year after year, and the ones that didn't get fert this year, got it the last 3 or 4 in the spring and guano in the fall... Mother nature takes good care... Sometimes she likes to play a little joke and either hold all the rain, or make it come way too much... Our job is to make it work out and learn from it....
The winter will cause some N to be leached, but Phosphorous and potassium are held to the soil more strongly so they tend to stick around from year to year... I use all organics, so the secret, I think is getting the microbes and little bugs in the soil full of nutrients (immobilization) that way there is always a reservoir of food for the plants (mineralization)...
