That was some pretty money to get baked and look at. Probably the prettiest notes I have EVER seen.
And the Dollar was killing the Gilder at the time. Made for one cheap stay. Went back when they got on the Euro, and fuck me, prices tripled.

This is not the direction you'd think the Dutch would go & just has to be alot of outside pressures invloved and some politicking . Euro's all messed up , conservative times & hard raining economic inflationary times, liberalism thrives when times are boom , the opposite when tuff .

That 20page Independent Drug Report for the UN just out from all those noteable people that calls for serious debate decriminalization unfortunately will fall on deaf ears . But when 35,000 deaths in the lst 5 yrs happen in Mexico & mass graves found over the drug rivalries happen no one takes notice . If over in the Middle East in Libya or Syria a 1000 people get shot we move to action for the oil & stability in that region is all important to US interests .

Im sorry but I cant let this one slide. First of all lets talk economics, one of the smallest countries in the world and most densily populated, is the leading nation when it comes to agricultural products, in the top 3 of leading exporters behind germany and the USA. Leader on the level of agricultural seed production, there isnt a single industrial grown Bean in the world that hasnt seen daylight in the NL. Leader on greenhouse growing, leader on flower market. Furthermore Holland has got more cash stashed away then any nation in the western world about 110% of GDP is stashed away as pension funds. One of the Leading seaports in the world. Leader on the development of petrochemicals, AKZO and Shell just to name 2. In the top of the world when it comes to general shipping and moving of big stuff (Mamoet). Basically in top 5 when it comes to exporting nations in Western Europe.
Cost of living is high because there is a social system alla Scandanavia, only slightly less socialistic, hence the large pensionfund.
Worst weather, thats just a myth, there is more rain in England and Germany, besides since half of march till the end of may not a drop of rain, most beautifull weather for a month and a half in Europe.
As for Milan, I dont if you have ever been there, but it is the most hated city in Italy, by the people that live there and dont. Its horrible and grey, it stinks, its smoggy, and people are only focussed on money and keeping up appearences (Actually there is no big beautiful city in Northern Italy, the first one that is beautiful is Rome.
As for the Hotels, get your ass out of the 20 buck shitty centre hotels, besides Dutchies dont sleep in Hotels, they sleep at home.

As for the food in the centre you can find some of the best stoner food there is, okay the scottish like to fry things even more but we are a close second. And if you dont like the indonesian food (450 years of history), and the incorporation of the asian spices in general nordic cuisine, then that is just your loss. Atleast Dutch cuisine tends to develop and adapt and assimilate different cultures, like most cuisines of trading nations in the north. Instead of keeping on revelling about 150 year old cuisine, that hasnt changed a bit since the introduction of the tomato.

Instead of complaining that you walked into every touristtrap, rent a bike and drive into the countryside. Go visit the veluwe, and krollermoller museum, sniff some culture, go to maastricht and eat some nice food and enjoy a fairytale like city. Go to The Hague and learn something about international politics and law. Go to Rotterdam and learn bout Dutch Industry. But Stop staying stuck in some coffeeshop in Amsterdam and crying that is the only thing around. Like any place where you go on holiday, it is what you make of it. But if you arent willing to make an effort then you wont get any worthwhile results, it is that simple!!

It certainly is absolutely nothing for the Netherlands to be proud of....and those reasons are veeeeery rarely published hence ppl with the limited knowledge such as you have like to believe what they are being fed.

I just wanted to mention that this wasn't the city of Amsterdam's decision. In fact, the city has opposed this proposal very vocally. As I understand it, this is a move by the country itself to curb the phenomenon of people driving in (especially from Germany), smoking up, and then driving home stoned.

And I'd also like to mention that I lived in Holland for three years, and while I found accomadations overpriced and the food a bit... lame, it is a fascinating country. And it takes a xenophobic asshole to decide to rip on a whole country based on their limited impression.

Some of the larger breeders have already set up shop in Spain. Amsterdam has survived many more calamities than loss of tourist. They will survive this. But governments come and go. Some give and some take. It is for this reason that I have preached to those in US medical states to stay low keyed and not to push the envelope. Sooner or later it will burst. I hate to see the next generation lose out because the current one took things up a notch or two too far.

I wouldn't want anyone in my country who would travel so far just to smoke pot. Those tourists will spend elsewhere and the rest will still go to amsterdam. I bet they don't lose a dime.

i am getting so tired of all these tourists who went to amsterdam and stayed in the Warmoestraat and think thats amsterdam/holland.

I have said this so many times on icmag.....and still waiting on the first pm from someone to ask me for some info on other stuff in holland than the warmoestraat (read : Red Light District).

you guys are just lame tourist.....yea, i am sure your 20$ hotel isnt the best, and sure your 7,99$ meal wasnt the best you had in your life.
