High all

As you may know, we are in the process to analyze for cannabinoid and terpene content and ratios most of the parental plants we use to produce our seeds. We are also analyzing the parental plants of the new landraces we are exploring lately, to help us to decide which parental plants are the best ones or more suitable for breeding.

Although a trained smoker/breeder can easily recognize the best parental plants and best traits in a population, this knowledge is always subjective, so the results of the analysis always provide a complementary objective information that is really helpful for breeding and to understand better how the synergy between the cannabinoids and terpenes affects the effects of the cannabis strains.

To keep the information of the thread more accessible and organized this thread will be closed. We can discuss the results and their implications in another thread for this matter or in the concrete thread for each strain.

Although the cannabinoid contents could vary depending on how the genetics were grown (and certainly some of the samples analyzed could be grown better), but the cannabinoid ratios will remain the same, no matter how the samples were grown.

The samples have been analyzed by Fundación Canna, (a non profit branch of Canna company), which is the leader company for cannabinoid and terpene analysis in Spain and probably one of the most importants in Europe.

The person in charge of the analysis is a 'Cum Laude' geneticist with wide and long experience with cannabis breeding. He is also a friend of mine and a great, honest and very professional person, so i fully trust in the results of the analysis.

Unfortunately Fundación Canna has not the standard to recognize the THCV content in the samples, so we cannot provide this information yet, but hopefully we can offer results with THCV content and ratios as soon as it is possible in future analysis.

Wish you find this info vaulable and interesting! :)

Kind regards, dubi - ACE Seeds -

Bangi Haze E25 and F29 cannabinoid and terpene analysis

Bangi Haze E25 and F29 cannabinoid and terpene analysis

As i commented previously in the Bangi Haze thread:

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.phpp=6812365&postcount=815

We grew dozens of seeds from 5 different Bangi Haze lines 2 years ago, selecting around 8 nice females that were over the average in quality and growing traits, 2 nice males too.

We have been testing the different selected females for the past year and half, 2 times indoors and once outdoors. After all the testings we end up selecting 2 favorite females: BH E25 and BH F29.

BH E25 has the most powerful, electric and cerebral effect among the different Bangi Hazes parental plants, and indeed its cannabinoid analysis confirmed it was the one with highest THC content (19 % THC). The aromas are mainly fresh lemons.

BH F29 is my favourite for terpene profile (creamy, aniseed, floral), growing traits, vigour, bag appeal and balanced effect (uplifting but not so anxious like BH E25). The potency is not so strong like BH E25 and the result of the analysis confirmed its THC content was not so high (around 15%).

Take in mind Bangi Haze is a highly inbred line so the THC contents won't be so high like in a strong F1 hybrid. The results demonstrate that Bangi Haze is a high THC strain, with almost nule CBD content.

Bangi Haze contains mainly the following terpenes: Alpha pinene, beta pineno, beta myrcene, d-limonene, trans ocimene, terpinolene, beta cariofileno, Guaiol and some plants slight amounts of Linalool.

Ethiopian 5, 4 and E4-2 cannabinoid and terpene analysis

Ethiopian 5, 4 and E4-2 cannabinoid and terpene analysis

We have been exploring lately old reproductions from African Seeds' Ethiopian Highland sativa.

We started with 3 different pure ethiopian lines from seed. The 3 lines produced pure landrace tropical sativa phenotypes without indica or western influence.

The 3rd line produced compact 'main cola' plants with shorter flowering time (12-13 weeks), but the quality was poor and had hermie tendencies so we discard all the plants from this line.

Lines 1 and 2 produced plants of similar growing traits, flowering times and behaviour: tall tropical sativa plants with strong columnar and lanky branching. Aromas are mainly earthy like many african landraces. The ethiopians with more interesting terpene profiles have more refined lemony aromas, others are sweeter, slightly musky.

The effect in all the plants is top quality: very clean, uplifting, energetic, well focused, positive, without body stone or hangover after the effect.

Of course, some plants were more powerful, the effect was longer lasting, had more refined terpenes and better indoor adaptability, while others while still having very good effects were mild in potency, duration of the effect or had poor indoor adaptability. All the females from these 2 lines yielded very well indoors. Flowering time is long (around 14-16 weeks), but the flowers have very good flower leaf ratio, and good density and good indoor adaptability in some females. Resin production is average-low in the strain.

We only found 1 female from these 2 lines with hermie traits (just a few nanners in late flowering), but the rest were completly firm, without hermie traits even indoors.

As we speak we are starting a reproduction of the ethiopian sativa with the best plants we found out in this initial selection.

We end up selecting 1 female from first line (E1-5) and 1 female from the second line (E4-2). These 2 females are clearly the best ones we have found by far from each line, and the ones we will focus the breeding. There also other 6 interesting females that don't reach the quality of the 2 females commented previously, but they are enough interesting to reproduce them and keep some decent genetic diversity in seed form for the future.

E1-5 is the best yielding female, most powerful ethiopian, with the best effects, longer duration of the effect (3 hours), best flowering traits (high flower/leaf ratio, dense flowers, good resin production for the average of the strain), good indoor adaptability ... so she was clearly the winner of the lot. E4-2 comes close in all the traits.

The aromas in these 2 best females are earthy in flowering, but after a good curing there are refined and pleasant sweet and sour lemony aromas, among the most complex terpenes within the line. The high comes quick, producing a positive, energetic, expansive, well focused sativa effect of good strenght and without hangover.

The ethiopian has moderate THC content (between 6-10 % THC), nule CBD content and slight amounts of CBG.

Ethiopian 5 parental plant:

Total THC= 9,47 %
Total CBD= 0,07 %
Aprox Ratio THC/CBD= Pure THC chemotype

The main terpenes in the line are: alpha pinene, beta pineno, beta myrcene, trans ocimene, beta cariofileno, alpha humelene, and some variations in d limonene and trans nerolidol.

--------------------------------------

Update: 3rd October 2019

The kind people from JadeNectar extraction company has found remarkable levels of THCV in our ethiopian line, with an approx THC:THCV ratio of 4:1 - 5:1. They grew 5 different ethiopian females and they mixed them altogether to produce an olive oil based extraction which was analyzed at SClabs showing THCV content of around 2 %. We don't know yet whether the THCV content came from one particular female, or from most or all of them.

We at ACE were not aware of this, since our first ethiopian cannabinoid analyses performed at Canna laboratories didn't show THCV content because at that time (early 2017) they didn't have the standard to detect it. We will explore in depth the THCV content of the pure ethiopian line in upcoming ethiopian cannabinoid analyses and breeding projects.
I attach cannabinoid analysis of the rich THCV ethiopian oil from JadeNectar.

Tikal cannabinoid and terpene analysis

Tikal cannabinoid and terpene analysis

High THC chemotype with significant amounts of CBG and CBC (lesser known/studied cannabinoids), showing some samples slight amounts of THCV and surprisingly (or not) some CBD too.
The second sample provides one of the most complex chemotypes we have ever found.

We are descovering that many good central american sativas (Tikal has 75 % Guatemala sativa parentage) have high chances to produce significant amounts of CBG, a cannbinoid we yet need to understand.

Updated on 4th July to add Tikal's terpene analysis.

Main monoterpenes found in this Tikal sample are terpinolene, myrcene and beta ocimene, then in lesser quantities limonene, alpha pinene, beta pinene, carene, linalool, and traces of alpha terpinene and gamma terpinene. The sesquiterpenes found in the sample are mainly guaiol, then caryophyllene, nerolidol 2, alpha bisabolol and humelene. A VERY complex terpene profile! :)

Thai Chiang Mai cannabinoid and terpene analysis

Thai Chiang Mai cannabinoid and terpene analysis

Thai Chiang Mai cannabinoid and terpene analysis.

I think the Thai individual tested is a very representative of the green classic pure old school SE asian sativa pheno, very long flowering (15-20 weeks), that can also be frequently found in Cambodia, Vietnam and southern Laos.

The outdoor sample provided was grown in a not so favourable non tropical climate, with cold temps and rains in flowering, so contents of the sample should be higher if it's grown properly in a tropical climate, but presences and ratios of cannabinoids and terpenes remain the same.

Moderate/high THC content (for a 'wild' P1 landrace without much chance of selection), with interesting contents of CBG.

The terpenes of the thai tested are also the classic aromas found in this SE asian sativa pheno: spices, old wood, slightly citric, green tea ...

The terpenes in the sample are: mainly beta myrcene and terpinolene; with lesser amounts of alpha pinene, beta pinene, d limonane, trans ocimene and beta cariofileno.

Purple Zamal cannabinoid and terpene analysis

Purple Zamal cannabinoid and terpene analysis

Purple Zamal cannabinoid and terpene analysis.

A very interesting and colorful Zamal found within the amazing sativa genepool coming from La Reunion island. This purple zamal pheno has different (red wine, backberry) aromas compared to the green mango carrot zamals. But both share almost the same growing and flowering behaviour: ultra branchied growth, very long flowering extreme tropicals.

As with the thai analysis, this Purple Zamal individual was grown outdoors in a not so favourable non tropical climate, with cold temps and rains in flowering, so contents of the sample should be higher if it's grown properly in a tropical climate, but presences and ratios of cannabinoids and terpenes remain the same.

Quite high THC content (for a 'wild' P1 landrace without much chance of selection), with interesting slight contents of CBG.

The terpenes in the sample are: mainly terpinolene (huge amounts!) then d limonane, beta cariofileno and beta pinene (also good quantities ), with slight amounts of many other cannabinoids too.

Panama Goddess F10 cannabinoid and terpene analysis

Panama Goddess F10 cannabinoid and terpene analysis

Cannabinoid and terpene analysis of our best Panama female (F10, aka Panama Goddess), the main Panama parental plant we use for Panama breeding and her outcrosses.

The sample tested was grown outdoors (with rains and it that could be grown better and let her matured a bit more ...), but results are very interesting.

The THC content is moderate (14.88 %) for a plant with such, complex, deep and long lasting effect, with very significative amounts of CBG (2.56!).
As we have just commented in the Tikal's analysis, we are finding significant CBG contents in the good central america sativas.

The terpenes in the sample are: mainly terpinolene, then alpha and beta pinene in good quantiies, and slight amounths of other terpenes.

Fron now onwards the results of Canna Foundation cannabinoid analysis don't show the total amount of THC and CBD after decarboxylation of the acid cannabinoids (THCa and CBDa).

To calculate it the following mathematical formula is used:

Total THC= THC +(THCa*0,877)
Total CBD= CBD +(CBDa*0,877)

----------------------------------

Beside that, i also have updated the Ethiopian cannabinoid analysis of the main female (#5) used for Ethiopian release with a newer result of a sample of this ethiopian properly grown outdoors, showing this time higher THC content.
