what about the place you eded up working for fit you best?
unfortunately, i think the corporate culture will ultimately infect the industry, along with all the bs that goes with it

Spent some time with Dixie Elixirs, and the environment there just wasn't right for me, it was a position in Logistics, filling orders and making deliveries, I enjoyed it, as a fat man i'm a fan of air conditioned spaces, however the head of Logistics had a very short temper, would openly insult people behind their backs, and treated on the job mistakes in a very harsh and non-constructive manner.

Also looked into a temporary work contract with TGS, however since I don't have a key badge the only position they had open for me at the time was trimmer, so a return to my days of sitting around with a bunch of other hash covered stoners and snipping away wasn't for me.

My current company is a bit more strict with their social media policy, so any opinions I state are my own and nobody else's, but if you're familiar with a company whose logo is a mountain, that might be the one. Their in house edible products are a vast step up in quality compared to virtually anything else on the market, I would honestly say that our gummies and our high cbd granola are the best examples of those types of edibles in the whole state. We tend to set our pricing lower than surrounding shops, while maintaining higher standards of quality and customer service. Everyone starts equally within the company, the GM of the location where I trained started as a Budtender, this is the case for just about everyone in management, only occasionally are people, usually specialists such as IT professionals, hired for management positions without working their way up. I feel lucky to have found a place here, in an industry notorious for high employee turnover, it's nice to be in a place where people show genuine concern and caring for their coworkers.

its tough to get your foot in the door of most "dream jobs" and still earn a living; im glad you found a good fit

A key badge is an upgrade from the standard Support badge one gets in order to get a job within the CO industry, upgrading to a key badge is expensive, but many companies will not promote a person without said badge, it basically allows you to work in management, operate facilities, etc.

lol, my biggest skill is probably my ability to grow body hair, aside from that i'm a botanist who has studied cannabis for over 16 years, i've tried my hand at things like breeding, my biggest success in that arena was my old Smurphberry Jam. It was an NL x BB BX2 (Double self back cross) that was made using Dr. Atomic's version of NL x BB, which was called Blueberry Jam, hence the tributary name. In the first batch of the BX2 generation, an elite mother stood out as being utterly exceptional, yields comparable to Blue Dream, but with a very unique terpene profile. I'll have to check and see if my old dropbox account still has some bud shots from those days, just talking about her makes my mouth water to this day.

Being from a botany background, I have an approach to budtending that is all about the customer, focusing on their needs and experiences, often steering them away from "higher percentages" and onto terpene profiles they're familiar with and strains that contain genetics they've enjoyed in the past, a person who loved the original blueberry is often very happy trying something like Blue Dream, etc. When someone comes in talking up some 36+% bud they got this one time, i'm able with confidence to tell them that such numbers are not natural, that there is only so much physical room on the plant to grow trichomes, when you approach the 30% mark, you are talking about a plant that is absolutely covered in crystals, anything beyond that is usually from adulterated samples (dusting the nugs you're sending out for testing with kief or dry sift hash) or poor testing methodology.

There are plenty of people who are content just smoking whatever is being called "dank" or "fire" at the moment, and I strive to help those consumers improve their cannabis experience.

i imagine someone coming in with an advanced degree is kind of rare for most jobs, but i agree it all about your approcah to the job
ultimately, more knowledge means you can help the customer better and thats good for the bottom line
ive long been part of the flavor camp and lean towards the high terp stuff
of course it has to pack a punch, but i can always smoke another hit!

Ty for the advice. One thing I try to do is express that I’m always trying the learn, and that I think there is a lot I can learn from the companies that I apply for. My experience does not make me a know it all, nor do I want to rock the boat. I want to grow with them as a person, and I hope that I could be on a team and be a positive asset to them through hard work. Then in time after I learn the process slowly use my knowledge and experience to bring any welcomed improvements possible.

That's a great thing to focus on, that you view every new experience as an opportunity to learn, this is the kind of thing that companies who only promote within look for, despite education and experience, there needs to be a willingness and DESIRE to keep learning.


I genuinely feel that the data coming out of our industry, and the official studies that will come in the next generation, will provide some of the greatest breakthroughs in human medical history, on the same level as of the discovery of vaccines and antibiotics. Within our bodies we have natural systems that are designed to prevent Cancer and other defects due to cells being copied improperly, and it has been consistently shown that cannabis consumption enables these biological systems to function more effectively, we are right on the edge of an explosion in our industry, beyond recreational right and into nutritional need!

Well unfortunately I don’t know people in Colorado other than my family. Lol

I know it is a couple of months away but their is a big cannabis expo in Denver called Indo Expo 01-26

You could probably meet owners, growers and others in the industry. If you were really motivated you could do a speech/presentation.
