Spidermites?

I just noticed these on the top of my water in flood and drain tables. I'm almost ready for harvest. Not seeing any webbing thus I wonder if they are spider mites or a different bug. Anybody know for sure?

They are spider mites but not the two spot you're thinking of (I assume).

It's hard to tell without enough clarity to distinguish body parts. Are the plants showing abnormal growth? Any notable changes? Have you ever released predators or brought in outside soil?

Is that you're finger? Out of curiosity ;)

yes that is my finger. I don't know how long I've had them. I've been fighting fungus gnats this whole grow but I never saw mites till tonight. While the table was flooded I saw what looked like a bunch of dust floating all over the water.

Looks like some kind of soil mite to me. Probably a decomposer or predator. Especially if you can see them with your naked eye moving. Spider mites and broads ect are usually very slow moving and inhabit the stems and leaves of the plant.

You said you had/have fungus gnats. Those little guys could be eating the larvae and helping ya out.

Let's see what others have to say :D

Haven't released any predator mites. Only abnormal growth looks like heat stress.

They can come in with the gnats or in compost, and probably other ways I don't know about.

If they're on the rims of your pot, moving quickly and you see no damage there's a good chance they are benign or beneficial.

I have white mites in my top soil they just seem to eat decomposing matter protecting their home from foreign invaders lol.

Dangerfields got it.

Let us get back to the real topic here though.

My fingers don't have weird round little shapes like that.

What gives?

Or for that matter, what sort of ramshackle species is this? You murder one with your finger and without losing a beat his friend starts eating him. Who the fuck does that? No friend of mine, that's for sure. If I was struck in a car accident the last fucking thing I want is some two faced knob chum-pretender coming over with a straw to suck out all my goodies.

Your participation isn't required (you may wonder at how to reply to this tripe), I can run a pretty good monologue. But it would be appreciated. Others may learn from this experience.

Like don't talk to kids with empty glue pots and sticky spoons.

That would be great. I don't know how any body grows this outdoors when mine are indoors and so open to attack.

Very easily in your medium, larvae can be fairly resilient and if you look at that one I linked, looks as though some nurseries add them as needed for thrip control.

I don't see any mites up on plant. But man there are prob 10-15 per inch floating on the top of water when the table floods. They are about the size of a grain of sand and some are smaller. I never would have noticed them if I hadn't seen so many floating on the water.

those aren't spidermites. most likely soil mites. they help keep your soil healthy. if they were spidermites you would know, because your plants would be half dead by now.
