I just received some very precious Lemon Thai seeds. Have tried to grow landrace before and it didn't turn out so good. Ended up hashing two whole plants

Are you smoking something very very heavy ?
~~~ I haven't seen any photos like it. It was not sticky at all yet it was fully dry no moisture at, making lots of powder after removing & bagging to roll. librarys closeing
You guys have got me worried that my Thai will never mature.
Of course she will, they all do eventually...it all depends on you and your ability to hang in there indoors or if outdoors, depending on the weather...will finish. I can grow all year round outdoors, the cooler months are best because it's virtually insect free in Winter and most of Spring and there's enough rain..the only problem is fighting against the increasing Spring photo-period.if a plant is not mature by mid Spring then I pick em anyway as they start to grow lots of leaves and the potency of the bud decreases.
The photo-period as well as the age of the plant will effect the flowering trigger response of Thais (as Thais and most equatorial land-races trigger into flower based on the age of the plant and photo-period while most modern hybrids can be triggered into flowering at any age beyond several weeks from germination) ..so, with all things being equal, a Spring seedling will tend to trigger in flowering earlier and mature earlier than a late Summer planted Thai seedling from the same seed plant.
But having said all that I have grown a few Thai seedlings (but these were not common) germinated in late Summer or early Fall and later planted out in the ground at 26 degrees Nth that didn't mature in Spring and went into veg mode in late Spring (and were harvested). But from memory, all the Thais I planted in Spring were ready to harvest in early ~ late Winter, a small percentage were ready in Spring.
Best guess is she started flowering in early August. Sprouted the seed in May.
If she started flowering that early then you should be harvesting early winter or sooner. The plants that I called "never finishing" didn't start showing pistils until late October. I pulled them in February with little proof of maturation.
edit:Opps, tropicannayeah beat me too it.
I bought a used fancy microscope and checked things out today and we're definitely clear so bottom line: I'll be patient. A nice benefit about this big Thai is that with all the fan leaves yellowing and dropping, it's looking less and less like a pot plant. It's so big at this point that there's no place to hide it and I don't want to freak out neighbors. It also doesn't hardly smell at all. Thanks for the help, this sure is fun!
~~~~~~~ When you say heavy I'm imaging a chunk of dark hashish & I didn't feel it even had any heavy metals. I don't need to have any now to recall, yet Thanks if you feel it affected me permanently because it did. With more truth my perspective is with greater understanding after Thia verses before Thia & my near death also raised my perspective to be less concerned with trivial things like politics & more concerned for eternal truths like reincarnation, seeing auras/UFO's & trying Thia, that then seemed the most sensible opportunity. I had been like a chess player knowingly playing a losing game reluctant to make an offensive move. Thanks; Later

How are those thais going? Just got my hands on a few oldschool thais I'm looking forward to grow and compare to other strains. For example, with this 8 Mango Thais that a friend of mine is reproducing from an old packet I purchased to RSC years ago. I'm really looking forward to see those, hopefully I'll get some cuts and pollen as well to experiment with. I've read great reports on that one!

Sorry for the terrible cellphone quality of the pictures:

Interesting thai folk song from the North East area of Isan, place of origin of this Mango Thai strain. Sounds pretty exotic indeed! :biggrin:

Haha finally worse pics than mine. J/k Mustafunk, Ill be getting a new camera this week so hopefully these will be the last of my terrible pics.

RSC Highland Thai, a bit short and stocky. For comparison, look at the panama red down below. It is growing right next to the thai.

Another Thai, supposedly from the Highlands. Looking petite and light.

For Comparison, Panama Red. Looking wild and untamed.

Samson4, the taste of this one is very much on the Hazy side, kind of herby 7up, but hard to pin, not a very overwhelming flavor but not unpleasant, burns like a cigarette nice and even and slow, just very pleasant, and with 6 months cure satisfying and powerful smoke.

The Thai I have going is starting to turn purple from the cold. And I still have 2 months to go!
:joint:

I wonder how it will change the taste.

Ethnobotanical Aspects of Cannabis in Southeast Asia

Cannabis indica, originating in central Asia, was probably introduced into Southeast Asia about the sixteenth century. The vernacular name used throughout Southeast Asia is derived from the Sanskrit ganja. Cultivation of the plant is on a family basis, several roots planted around the house. Ganja is openly sold in the markets. The female plants are smoked, together with tobacco. The occasional cases of intoxication are remedied by decoctions of native plants. Ganja leaves and stalks are used extensively in the cuisine, to provide both an euphoric quality and agreeable flavor. Recognized as an analgesic, cannabis is used to combat, among other conditions, cholera, malaria, dysentery, anorexia, and loss of memory; it relieves asthma and calms the nerves; suppresses polyps, coughing, dizziness and convulsions; facilitates digestion and childbirth; it stimulates lactation, purifies the blood and clears the bile, regulates the function of the heart, liver and lungs; eliminates intestinal parasites, decongests the organism and is a treatment for paralysis. Cannabis is considered a source of social well-being to be shared with friends and is also used to ease difficult work tasks.
Data are presented principally from Cambodia with some observations about Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. There are marked similarities in the use of cannabis in these countries.

Just calyxes

Just calyxes

So my thai is at 7 1/2 feet, soil to top now. Most of the fan leaves have turned yellow and have been plucked off. This is the weirdest plant I've ever grown. Looks like a big sticker bush with a zillion calyxes and hardly any leaves. Very sticky. Has anyone seen a plant like this? As far as trimming, I may end up with a big bag of calyxes and nothing else.

That's an exotic looking plant for sure, not the most productive plant ever but definitely beautiful. I remember some weird Destroyer phenos like that one, with all those bract strings all over the buds. What strain is it?

The seed was a Thai / Cambodian from Sensi seeds. Healthiest plant I've ever grown.
Ocean Forest, worm casings, General Organics Bio Thrive Veg and bloom. Used Azamax regularly.
