Well, it wasn't supposed to be. ;) If DNA labs had anything to say about it.

Yeah, well fuck 'em- us little guys get to catch a break every once in awhile, too!

Seriously, I have found one innovation after another simply by looking for ways to avoid or reduce excess cost and complexity; waterfalls to replace air pumps and stones, vertical growing and bare bulbs instead of reflectors over flatlander ops, water chilling instead of AC, etc. Rather than thousands of dollars in Undercurrents under more thousands in Raptor reflectors, I chose chicken wire, storage tubs and bulkhead fittings. Not so sexy, also much less expensive.

And oh, so much more efficient!

Sounds good to me man. Whatever works, and gets the job done the way you want it. A little resourcefulness goes a long way. :smoker:

I used a 400w CDM and some good organics(soil) for my last little grow. The product turned out very nice. No complaints.

just flipped a batch of plants around a vert 860, the ones pictured above in veg,
also just about to harvest plants that spent half their flowering time (the second, latter half) around the 860w chm.

harvest pics to come soon.

got 1.2 lbs off the single vert 860w, plants were around a 600w HPS untill about week4ish then switched to the vert860w
grown with maxibloom, MOAB, floralicious plus, calmag.

early next month will begin veg to replace this room, which will be the first full cycle of veg and flower with the 860w for me.

I got ya beat right at the wire; my latest batch just got flipped last week, and they got 860W CDM lighting for the last week of veg, and now for the first full week of bloom. Gonna stack another roomful and get it going in prebloom veg today, for flip in one to two weeks.

So far, they're growing like someone stuck a cattle prod up their ass, inches per day in every direction. Imagine how much time I'm spending just delarfing shit!

The lamps do not work with electronic or digital ballasts.

MH magnetic, with probe start being prefered(imo), but not necessary.

How's the growth difference? Everything I've read on CMH I like, but the only person I've spoken to personally complained about leafier growth?

i can say that in veg under the 315w cmh agro elite my fan leaves got HUGE, but so did the stems and stalks, from seed my las vegas bubba kush and Flo OG both had very impressive growth rates and made very sturdy thick stems as well as LARGE fan leaves on relatively small plants... so.... "leafy"? ya, in a good way tho so far in my experience.

Props as always, sir. It'll be interesting to see how it works out.

Doesn't sound like the complaint I heard at all. Going to have to pick me up one of these soon :tiphat:

I like to think that growers are getting prepped to move it outdoors, which is where it really belongs imho. In that, I think that CMH & dual arc lamps give growers a better idea of how a given strain will behave w/ natural sunlight.

One thing I've noticed using a cmh in veg & a dual arc in flower is that internode lengths are shorter & plants bushier at fairly high light intensities. That's a def advantage in height restricted environments, also reduces the effects of the inverse square law, too. I suspect that accounts for the observation that cmh plants are "leafier"- they just look that way because of shorter internodes.

Growers with a lot more experience than my own can better judge the truth of that, & experiments like Ttystikk's side by side can quantify it, as well. With a little extra effort, a grower could temporarily save everything but the roots- fan leaves, stems, close trim, buds. Dry it all out & weigh it, see how it compares in the different categories. I personally lack the means or I'd do it.

And there's the subjective side of it, as well, the more nuanced aspects of cannabis- aroma, taste, texture, potency & attributes of the high itself. I volunteer as an impartial tester, that's for sure. Don't tell me which is which & I'll try to tell the difference... give it a week's worth of rigorous testing. I've had tough jobs before......

Hey avinash Good stuff man, in that upskirt picture I see a white fan up on the wall ... does this not fuck up your "slow column of rising air"?? I took my fan outta my setup because it was jusy blowing the column of wArm air all around insteAd of up.. maybe this is the bigger room?

ya it is (was) a LARGE room, and the higher up fan was a good foot or 2 above the plants and just pushed hot air towards exhaust fans.... and thus out of the room.
