PRed and American Sativas - 2014 - OD Grow

Some very fine looking flower there Charlie! This is an ugly duckling in comparison, but I like it. I hope it makes up for it in the smoke. This is Copalita Oaxacan that I just harvested. I found a bud where part of it died, probably due to mold. Since there were only a few buds left with any fresh pistils, I decided to harvest:

Perhaps I can get some better pictures of the colors in the bud in tomorrow morning's daylight.

I harvested a lower branch last week. These top buds are a lot heavier. My fingers got tired trying to hold this bud up for pictures.

Thanks for the good vibes Charlie. I laugh because the aromas were all over the place on this. First, it was spicy and peppery, which I was very happy about. Then it developed an additional ammonia type of smell which later seemed to morph into a faint menthol aroma. As the buds stopped growing and started to ripen, the aromas became less strong, and a very familiar old school Mexican musty aroma developed. Many people don't like this, and think it is from poor handling (bricking), but I think it is the strains. I remember this musty smell vividly from my younger years when I first started smoking grass. When I first started cutting the buds, last week, they smelled strongly of mint and hash. I have no idea what it will smell like when it is dry enough to start curing. Everyday is an aromatic adventure with this one. One last comment... when I was cutting the plant down and handling the stems, my fingers had a medicinal smell that was similar to the 60s Jamaican Lambsbread. Those stems smelled incense and medicinal to me.

the jezebel hor had wide variance depending on harvest date. the first harvest nov1 was the best high effects and smells/taste. the last two harvests 2 and 4 weeks later still had a good up enjoyable high but the euphoric effects were gone as well as the delightful smell and taste. the last harvests had a hay like aroma that never cured away.

This grow is been really low in nutrients, not much time left for everything, but they are doing well enough and full of aromas. Nevertheless hoping some seeds are well done

Beautiful plant you have there Charlie. Is that the Oaxacas?

Yes HITH, different oaxacas 79's and 90's
90's seem to be a more robust and better yielder, gives more rounded tip buds and bit more aserrated blades
Aromas are more complex too, its not fruity but has a touch of, yet to express clearly and more intense
79's are strongly sweet citric and incense

my oaxacan x mullum also has a strong sweet citric and incense. maybe more cedar then incense, until it's burned...
such a lovely high. up and energized with a trance like quality. creeps on up and lasts for hours. indoors she finishes around 15-16wks. hope you don't mind me sharing...

Ok since everyone in here has tons of experience with american sativas I have a question. I recently got some mexi brick that has a somewhat berry smell to it. Now are there some mexican sativas that have a berry smell or would this be from an introduction of something like blueberry or another "outsider" strain to the fields?
The weed I got when examined appeared to be mostly whitish green or gold with hints of a more vivid green. But the thing that makes me think this is from a foreign introduction is that regardless of the bud color or even hair color every bud has some hints of purple and a noticable amount of black. The black appears to just be the small bud leaves and my guess would be they had turned purple in the grow but do to the poor drying and packaging they eventually just "cured" black, but there are hints of purple in the actual buds themselves. So my second question is, is purple or even black common in landrace mexican sativas or would this depend on the growing conditions and temps or would this only be from foreign genetics being introduced at some point?

Sorry for the long post and if I'm not suppose to ask these questions here and there is another place I should've asked these questions could someone please point me in the direction I need. Also thanks for any and all help.

Also, how does the effect of Jamaican Blue Mountain (Caribe or Double Jam) compares to the effect of the Oaxacans?

OK thanks. Yeah I knew they have been mixing in other genetics to get faster harvests and better yields. The last bag I got was clearly some hybrid that was more indica dom, but the bag I just got this weekend had a very clear, soaring, heart racing high. Probably not for the faint of heart and def wasn't a great thing to try and smoke before bed lol.

Anyway I just wondered because I know central and south america have known gold and even black varieties but I can't say I've ever seen someone mention anything about a berry smell in any of those landraces. Its usually spicey or earthy smells, but then again I'm not exactly an expert in cannabis smells so what I consider a berry smell someone else could say it smells nothing like the known berry smells in cannabis lol.

Not plans I guess, just seeds for future. I think best representation of this Oaxaca79 came with Mextiza. It defines Oaxacan concept, improves yield and can be harvested in less than 60 days. Aromas are there with the add of honey and some kinda creammy touch to the taste. In fact I enjoy better their hybrids (Red Snake and Mextiza) than the Oaxaca which seems to be more contemplative effect but lacks of a bit of punch. Compared to many other landraces or wild things grown in the past is one of the most aromatic and tasty line

Cannot tell about jamaicanas. Cant say much about Double Jam or Lambsbread as never had the chance to grow them to compare.
Some play rock and roll, others play jazz someone said before, a soccer player in fact lol. While Oaxaca79 itself plays jazz, its hybrids or Caribe play more rock and roll. Although Caribe is more head active, body is still relaxed

Thank you kaiki, contemplative is good. I'll grow Mextiza in the near future.

I prefer jazz over rock and roll and don't like "head active". I don't like a mentally active or thought provoking effect, I like energetic and mentally calm.

Oaxacan's I smoked fron the 1970's fit that description, not as strong as Colombians.
