ebay led lights

The prices on ebay for the most part are significantly less for led lights than equivalent lights on Amazon.

So, I bought a 600 watt, mostly red spectrum, no-name led light for $200 from one of the ebay sellers.

When I hook my http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RGF29Q/ it only shows the light drawing about 185 watts. All 200 led's are lit, and the light is clearly labeled on the back as 200 x 3 watt led's, 600watts.

I have 4 other led lights from different sources, and they all draw about 60 percent of the rated wattage. This one is only drawing about 30 percent.

I brought this up to the vendor and received this response, that I'm having a hard time making sense of:

Hellofriend, The main lamp beads plant lights are red, according to a reasonable proportion of plant lights, accounting for 75% of the proportion of red, while the red led chips voltage is 2.2-2.4V, the higher of the quality , the lower of the chip voltage. Particular for CREE chip, the chip is one of the best in the world, but their chip of the voltage and power consumption are the lowest voltage. CREE red only 2.0-2.1V.

Good chips will not because of less consumption of energy to reduce the light emitted. Now some manufacturer on the market, in order to increase the power, they will come out of several ways:

1, because white and blue chip are high voltage nearly 3.6V, low grade chips are cheap, so they will use many white and blue lights to increase the power, But as we all know, white and blue are not conducive to the plant's growing and flowering.

2, They will use the inferior chip, the worse of the chip the higher voltage will it be, Although the lamp power is large, in fact, the light is emitted. Electricity consumption, but little light.

3, They will put some electrical resistance on the light which would increase the power of the lamp, but it did not issue these resistors useful light, only convert electrical energy into heat, wasted energy"
But we use reasonable layout, the red light will over 75% of the light. So that is why power of the light will be a little lower. But all of the light is really and effective.

I hope these can help you solve the probelm. If you have any questions pls feel free to contact with me.
Best regards!

I already paid for the light and gave a glowing review (as requested) of the vendor.

Does anyone understand what the vendor is trying to tell me about the low wattage used by their 600 watt light?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but they might be running low amperage through the leds at 2-3 volts to reduce risk of burnouts. Maybe there are 200 3 Watt leds but they're not running at 1 amp, instead running at 350ma

you were sold standard bullshit marketing. the "3 watt" diode does not exist nor ever has. It was just an old reference that was carried over into newer marketing to make lights appear more powerful. Most "3 watt" diodes actually run at ~2watts, but everyone uses the term 3watt diode to refer to the higher power diodes. So your 200 x 3w diodes should be more around 370-430w watts of actual draw from a reputable LED manufacturer using quality drivers and good "3watt" diodes.

your 200 diodes are running at 185 watts, which means 0.925 watts per diode. You cannot drive those higher wattage diodes at half power, or at least not that I'm aware of.

What happened is that you were lied to and sold a 200 x 1w. I would return the light and report the seller for fraud, given the horrific nature of the generic LED marketing trends. Your asking about wattage and he's trying to tell you about voltage. He's either retarded or expects you to be.

He asked for good feedback so you'd leave it right as you received the item, not after you tried it. I learned that one from the people sending stuff directly from china, I don't leave feedback for at least a month after I order their cheap crap. They ask and ask and if you leave negative they ask for you to change it, will refund $, send you blowjob direct from china, etc, whatever it takes to leave a positive rating. Request to revise feedback if you can, i know the seller can request it.

You paid for crap and got crap, nothing new in the LED world I see.

Phyco nailed it.

While it is true with most things that "you get what you pay for", it is particularly true with LEDs. You can pay a lot for junk, but you are NEVER going to get good quality cheap.

They are probably running the chips at very low wattage because the cooling is inadequate. It is an inexpensive way to prolong the life of the chips and minimize any warranty issues.

Hi guys, i think to have purchased the same type of led light, i 300w nominal (100 led 3w), they say the consumption is 150W but i have see a consumption of 100w ! But i'm not so hungry for this, the light i think does his duty, we must only to know that those cheap led light was about 1/3 of nominal power. The spectrum and quantity of light emitted is good for our plants, this in my opinion. Rives say the true, to make the light cheaper thay don't use a good aluminum sink and mount the led chips directly a chep aluminum sheet.

There is someone that test those types of cheap led lights againts the best brand led lights ? Of course considering the real power of the lights...

I got a Mars2 900w and a 1200w from ebay Sometime ago that came from China.Happy although a Member Friend Bought 3 1200w's and a "panel" was dud .
The American ones look the best and Probably alot cheaper

So a quick break down of my own cost analysis with cheap fixtures (Blackstar, 1yr warranty) Vs. good Fixtures (Advanced/GrowBlu, 3yr warranty)

I got the GrowBlu Apollo 240x3w (500w) for $950 delivered. The Blackstar 240-HO (130w) were ~$280. To match watt for watt it will take four Blackstars, totalling $1120.

Straight up watt for watt its more expensive, but wait there's more. Because of the cheap diodes they do not produce as much light as possible, those lower quality fixtures' watts do not equal higher quality fixtures' watts. I would say that it takes a few weeks longer in flower and buds that are not as dense with the cheap fixtures. They just DO NOT HAVE THE FLOWER POWER. Costing every harvest in bud loss and added time.

Now when they break, which three out of four of my Blackstar's are now running on half of their diodes because one diode in the series is out. I tested them and its not the drivers. Gotham Hydro, importers of Blackstar, said "oh, 2 years on the light, sounds like a good run and time to upgrade LED boards for $75."

Thats $1120 for the first two years, plus $300 in bulbs every two years after that (assuming your drivers and everything else holds up) <10000 hours light with problems and hard to fix.

The GrowBlu at $950 and guaranteed for three years. ~15,000 before any added cost, cheaper to fix because its modular, i.e buy a spare module when one goes out, fix the one you replaced and have it ready for next time.

I've tried to open a cheap LED to replace a single diode but its hard as fuck, ended up breaking the damn thing--the reason Blackstar sells you the whole diode panel.

Generic and lower priced fixtures use lower priced diodes that run hotter, take more electricity, produce less light per watt and thus have a lower life span. They have little or no heat sink, further driving up electricity cost while lowering efficiency, brightness and life span. Then on top of that the cheaper drivers that under power the diodes to counter act those flaws to help protect the diodes through the warranty period.

Cheap shit is not worth it!

My Mars2 had 5W leds but They do 3W Diodes too
They are driven less to preservethe leds Longevity the 1200w powers at 540w and the 900w at 340w at the Plug

Are you happy with the growth and fruiting results with these LED's?

My other question is have you had ANY issues with these lights? Any diodes fail?

Hi Sam.. Yes Happy Some Strains do/grow better under them than others. With the High Powered units anyway and even with the lights 6'+ away you MUST make sure you have a good root System before hand otherwise the L.E.D light/FOOD will fry and Crinkle up the Small Plant and what roots it has will cease to grow.I think 18" is about adequate but a guy's work ive Observed left them to a little over 2' (sure) before he Changed the light to LED.. I think the Yield was roughly the same i know the Chem d does well under them although the taste was Quite different..One of my Faves The blue Meanie gave much Harder Buds i found ..Back ltr with links 4am ish here.. :smoke:

Some of the best results I've had were in half gallon pots. Three plants did about a pound total. I had two Blumat's hooked up to them and they would turn on almost as soon as the lights were on then drip all day till the lights went off. I didn't flush except at the end and the plants came out amazing.

I've never had a problem giving clones with little to no roots LED light and full strength Canna nutrients with amazing growth. If your light is burning your plants up then you probably have too sharp of a beam angle and/or your footprint:penetration ratio is not right. I've had plants touch the lights themselves and still only take minimal damage over a few months, while turning out great.

Clones, cut from the previous (no mother, perpetual lower branch cloning on batch going into flower) plant 27 days prior. Notice all the fresh leaf growth, as the leaves that were on the clone branch were all nipped on the tip. Also the reason I suggest everyone use these 1L SuperRoots Airpots, as they are amazing for transplant prepping, look at those root tips just waiting to grow, not all swirled. The pots prep the roots to begin to dig right in as soon as it finds new soil...

I plant my clones when they look like this (two clones shown, up to 4 per collar) and they go into pure coco coir.

i wouldnt say its the beam angle, but more of how many photons are hitting that area. this will vary with each light. i can say that the last crop i had bleached at around 16" with the lumigrow650.

i think the largest factor for clones or juvi's to leds is people dont acclimate them to the light, its very hard on them to go from say 200par to 800+ its gonna do some damage. you will see the same thing with leds and all the reefers and there corals so they can have them not bleach out.
id be confident in saying if u raised that light or dimmed it down then slowly increased the par over a week that your issue would go away.
if spg could test the par that they came from then went to id bet it would fall in line with what i said.

They bleach at various distances, depending on distance, how many diodes and beam angle. Beam angles focus the photons and direct them in a more concentrated area--giving you more photons per area. I say beam angle because if the diodes are strong enough they won't need to be as concentrated and could be spread out more.

The lumigrow seems to have a high penetration:coverage ratio, meaning they could widen the beam angle on the diode and reduce penetration a bit and increase area coverage. I'm not an expert on the LG but just an example if its bleaching at 16"

That said, bleaching isn't necessarilly a problem, just different. The buds still smoke well, and people who see it go absolutely insane cause they don't know what's going on. One guy said he'd pay double to smoke all white bud.

dope time was a "grow Buddy" there was 16 small plants not 9-12
1.5 is bleached as you can see

i dont get what spg is trying to say. is he saying they got overfed so the light is to blame? hopefully he can elaborate on that. same with what amount of light they were in then moved to, this will give good insight.

phyto i wouldnt say bleaching isnt a problem at all, id say the complete opposite as its killing the cells, its likely just not an issue at the later part of the cycle and non i see on the leafs. test a plant an bleach it on purpose an you will see that it will be a issue when the leafs are not producing for the plant you can do this in veg with a extra plant. this is why if i ever see it it needs to be addressed but thats just me.

just cause someone would pay 2x for it doesnt mean its better, id rather make a better product than feed someones ego because they think something looks cool. same thing with led companies that name crap the ultramegakillanator 3000x id rather have an end product that has better specs than a cool name, as we all know the people that fall for gimmicks normally have a very acute understanding of what there getting.

Sry i kinda rushed through laying that down..probablely cus my stuff got Taken a while ago (3months ago?) and so growing has Stopped
Nice they didnt take the expensive leds though....

My leds and i expect most/ALL? Gave 8-9? light Spectrums which is ideal for the plant not (some) wasted light as hps-mh?gives - this light feeds the plant somewhat
Bleaching IS a problem in VEG cus the Plant WONT fucking grow Correctly!! lol.....
IN Flower those "bits" can taste sweet
best to not have bleaching tho

No need for any Offense...

(BTW these are uk growers ive known for quite a while)
