Insects invaded my fermented plant extract

Hey guys i searched around but couldn't find a similar scenario.
I've had my alfalfa FPE sitting in a bucket outside for about 2 weeks and i must have left the lid cracked open last time I looked. Today i found some little gnat things crawling around, even walking on the water, and their larvae floating around the edges of the bucket, HUNDREDS of larvae.
There is also a layer of some kind of bio-film on the top. IT sure as hell stinks like vomit and horseshit combined but somehow worse.

I'm worried about these bugs though, does anyone have any knowledge of stale/rotting water type insects? i cant exactly snap a photo cause they are so small, but they are definitely creepy little things. Should I just dump the bucket and start over?:frown:

victoroni, the bio film you speak of has always been on my FPE as well as the vomit shit stench. I'm not surprised about the bug invasion. My first thought was, Neem Cake would probably take care of those little bastards while adding good stuff to your FPE. Could be worth a try...SW

Some one say the Neem word ....lol I just love that stuff, its systemic too, meaning the plants will drink it up and offer some interior protection too, great for bugs and molds ...tho don't use so close to harvest at its an acquired taste

Vostok, agreed, neem is pretty damn amazing in so many ways, and it smells good too...

It seems likely that you have mosquito larva in your FPE. No biggy and any oil ( mineral, neem) will cut off the oxygen to them. And kill them.

Hey thanks guys! This is good news. Cause I have neem oil and neem meal. they may or may not be Mosquitos cause the adult winged bug looked a little different than any I have seen.

One question I see how the oil would work just wondering if adding neem seed meal would have the same effect, and would it also take a few weeks to ferment before working?

Also the biofilm is gone and the FPE is now very dark, assuming this means it's ready?!:) thanks again!

I'd say save the neem oil for spaying your plants. I would use the Neem meal at 1/2 cup per five gallons of liquid...
