and it designed to be brewed into teas or put in reserviors...

it's an extract - not a raw amendment. It has been discussed many times over why kelp MEAL is a superior product for amending soil...

I know that now,but at the time I put the mix together, I didn't have any and had read I could use the Maxicrop as a substitute

There's also much better seaweed extract powders such as Nature's Essence or Acadian. Both are cold water extracted while Maxicrop is not.

Can't see why you'd have to kick yourself for being helpful, Mikell.

Kief, do not add woodash for sulfur - you will yank the pH off like mad, most of the elements wash out relatively quickly and you're left with something that bogs down your soil and causes lockout. If you need sulfur you're best off adding elemental sulfur which can be purchased from most garden stores/ACE/HomeDepot/etc. You can get a product like TM-7 from BioAG which contains minor amounts of sulfur with the other traces, but frankly I don't think it's enough sulfur. If you're adding in neem meal to your soil this should also help with the S content. A major issue is we're having to rethink sulfur amending; for most of the 20th century there was a surplus of sulfur being fed into the soil from "acid rain" and people didn't need to add sulfur to their soil. With the regulations in the 70s the air quality has become better and now we're having to take that into consideration and add sulfur in in some cases.

S'pose because I'm a dick to myself and others. I really prefer when people figure things out for themselves, especially something so basic as an acronym definition.

Love this thread, Im going to be picking it apart again trying to perfect my outdoor mix for the summer season. I lost my cheat sheet Ive been using for the last cpl years. It was a combo of a few diff mixes, ive been tweaking it here and there, and keeping track, but ive lost it, and I dont have my exact ratios anymore. Gna try to do some brainstorming to figure out where i left off. It was mostly Promix/Compost/perlite/chicken poop, blood meal, bone meal, EWC, diatomaceous earth, alfalfa meal, and a few other amendments. I was feeding regularly with ACT aswell. Like I said, Ive lost my ratios, and need to find another starting point.

Btw where is clackamus coot gone to? I dont see any of his old posts, he had a wealth of organic knowledge posted a while back.

You better add some kelp meal quick before you get in trouble.

I was building a cabinet all day. I thought of looking up the acronym but the person who shared it with me uses tons of acro's so I wasn't confidant it was common enough to google. Maybe the wanting to get the cabinet done discouraged me. Dunno...
Anyway. I Searched on Icmag search and didn't score a hit but a friend turned me onto this.

hey fellow organic growers....quick question..(hope I dont sound DUMB!) Thinking about using LC's soil mix #2 with recipe #1. Is it overkill to use a worm tea, w/molasses or compost tea to feed plants??? Or would I just need LC's soil mix #2 and compost tea??

Occasional teas will not hurt and should surely help. Helps build and maintain a large microbe population in the soil which helps cycle and break down your organic ingredients for the plants.

I dont brew teas as much as I should anymore but I try to at least once per cycle shortly after I transplant to final containers, seems to really boost the plants health and vigor and kicks the microbe levels up and they take off.
