Are you going to keep the humidity 60% or lower from now on? You think raising it to 70% was a big problem?

jay, no other sounds other than i can hear more air moving out of the unit now :D

yeah theother,... kinda strange.
Ive never read about or heard bout it in my 4yrs here?

watts, I'm sealed running Co2 so run hi'r temps and RH in veg and the 1st 3wks or so of bloom until your flowers start budding out,
then i back down on the RH lower and lower as buds get bigger to prevent budrot.

they are happy happy @70% with 80-82F
you can see it with their leaves pointing upwards in the praying position

as far as the hi rh being the prob,
in part yes, as per the user manual says:

a dirty filter "can" contribute to a mold situation

but really.... tbh
mini splits aren't meant to be in a constantly hi humidity situation like ourgrow rooms soooo....
diligence on our part is key to the mold situation, right? :smoke:

Oh man, just checked mine and I have some!!! It looks more like your Fredrick's one, don't think it is choking back airflow, but fuck mold! I have been fighting a pm battle and gnome might have just figured out how it keeps coming back. Gonna take that thing apart today and see if I can figure it out.

I wonder if burning sulfer and running equipment is a good idea periodically. I don't actually burn it for the plants but have a burner and use it when cleaning, I never run anything then though maybe if I run the split and dehus it will fix it.

Gnome, you know you have to try and take apart the dehus now, they have that same blower style.

lol...
looks like ive opened a pandora's box
and it's moldy inside!

good call on the dehuey,
time to check those now.
i run 2 of them @lites out.
not sure if mold can really get a foothold on the dehuey blower,
they spin a lot faster over a minisplit blower.
i keep mine on hi so they maintain a very hi rpm.

and yeah,
no telling what is getting spewed out of a moldy mini.
nothing good for plants or people.
and thinking on it, last run i started seeing smaller leaves and shoot die off and turn blackish. not many but enuff to make you think about.
the leaf would start to wither midstem, and progress to the end of the leaf or shoot.

dunno about the sulfur, never ran it.
I use fungaflor and trinity bombs between runs in the rooms.
it may not hurt to run some sulfur.
i try and keep a fairly clean room, any spills from watering are mopped up using
pinesol/bleachy water to mop the floor occasionally.

The VOC's from mold are definitely worth considering. I think a buildup like what the 3 ton had could justify worrying about VOC's. I have had blackmold buildup behind floor's before and worried about VOC's from that. Never saw any evidence of problems though.

there's a few strains of black mold that can can give you serious infections or be fatal.
the only thing we can do is make ourselves/others aware of these things.

Maybe running dehums 24-7 would stop or lessen the mold in the mini's? -granger

sounds doable until the 1st 3 weeks of bloom when i'm running 60-70% Rh.
I think my prob with the dirty filters are what gave mold a foothold in the mitsu, then shutting it down for 2 weeks and NOT doing a proper job by the mistu manual left water in it to stagnate egging the prob on even more.

as for the breeze thats just starting to get mold a tiny bit.
that may be as far as it goes with mii splits and may be a given with mii's in humid gro environments.
most molds has a hard time to getting established in a very windy place.
i shut down the breeze for a while in aug to harvest and clean the room up, had dirty filters, left water in the unit,
so maybe thats where it got a hold on that unit or as i said,m
aybe all mini's have mold to some degree but mine was the exception, not the norm

I'm thinking it was just a sequence of the right enviromental
events that got the ball rolling.
if it was as common as my situation, the boards would have a stickied section just for the moldy mini epidemic.

Took my shit apart, wasn't much in there, actually no visual mold just dust. I am so glad you posted that though, there is NO way i could see that and not examine mine. I think from now on, regular filter cleanings with physan 20, and at the same time take a spray bottle with the ac off and get some physan20 up into that blower. Once I put mine back together I found that I could get a clean shot up in there. Definitely leave your shit off for awhile afterwords though because there is exposed electrical not far away at all.

I never saw a problem with myself or the plants, but I sure as hell worried about it. I take floors way more seriously now for sure. I am kind of afraid to frame a raised floor, maybe id feel better if I left some inspection port.

It might lessen it. My blooms aren't down for long, but I always leave my rooms conditioned. Even if its gonna be a week I don't turn off the ac's or the dehu's. It kind of sucks but I feel better about it, I have no idea what temp and humidity it would get to without it, but I don't wanna find out. I started doing that because I wanted to leave rootballs for a minute while I trimmed, it costs me a bit for that week or few days, but I think its worth it.

2 products that will help. 1st is they sell UV strip lights that you install inside the minisplit to prevent mold growth. Also they sell a product called BBJ enviro mold controll spray. I would say the UV is more effective

i kno about the UV lamps,
but i thought they do germicidal-bacteria control not fungicides

theother....
my blowers on the dehueys can be easily seen from the top exhaust grill,
both are spic-n-span clean :)

like i said above, I think i cause a series of events that let the mold explode.

and i agree with ya on the floor, I have a mop and bucket handy for the watering overflows etc etc, i also keep a bleachy soapy bucket to dip the mophead into and do the floor every so often,
lots of nasties can flourish on that sucker.

I was looking at that. is it legit? , haven't come across any reviews really. Do you have to replace the bulbs often?

Gonna be a tight fit! Do uv lights produce ozone or just oxidize the air they come in contact with? I get nervous about ozone in bloom rooms, also I would be slightly afraid that you would get spillage of the uv light, again no expert by any means, but that seems a bit scary.

I think it's safe to assume that gnomes issue was caused at least in part by a very clogged filter. Probably step one is to keep those as clean as possible. I think I'm gonna try and pull mine every two weeks which means realistically I'll get to it once a month. Considering the buildup I saw at 2+ months I'm confident that I will keep it clean enough.

The other thing to consider here is dust in a room. Probably best practice (assuming the room is empty) is to turn off the ac and filters dehu etc, and let the dust settle. Turn on non filtered exhaust if you can maybe.

Seems to me most shit that goes wrong with indoor gardening is a combination of a couple of problems that combine to try and ruin shit.

Man! I found this out the. Hard way.
I'll tell you what also, those fins of the minis are the collector of the mold. My fan wasn't quite as bad as gnomes but bad.
I've found I have to clean mine about once a month to be on it proactively, rather than reactively . It's a monthly cleaning schedule.
Stem clean and physan and sometimes rinse. Steam kills and physan protects. And spray the shit out of the fan blades with physan or ac cleaner.
I will stand in front of the mini and smell the air right at the unit. You can smell mildew when it needs clean.
And they do spew pm!!!
And the uv seems the way to go. But like gnome said ' tight fit'. Gonna have to get one specific for mine. Till then I clean the shit out of it. Haha

first person I've seen mention steam clean ,have been wondering about using steam plenty of small machines about , good for lots of clean ups, wonder how it would effect the panda or other films on walls etc. I will find out ms is about to lose her steam machine.

Yeah all those coil and fan crevices are no match for steam! And it is cheap and non toxic. It raises rh in room of course. But I have panda on all walls and it doesn't condensate or anything on it.
Highly recommend a steam cleaner unit solely for cleaning that mini.

your right about the evap fins, i
was looking at em and could see some stuff in it here-n-there.
thinking on spraying the H202 on the blower
as said earlier.
HVAC supply houses also have a spray to clean em.

another thing is i bomb my room with trinity or fugaflor between runs,
leave the ac running when I bomb it and it'll kill any spores inside the fins.
which btw i haven't done for a few runs

soooo... a steam machine eh.
damn good idea lester :good:
and i just happen to have one :D

here's the BBJ mentioned above
this looks like the stuff to get
