I want to talk more about chlorine and chloramine. I am in the process of looking for a good portable meter for measuring purposes. My main concern is whether or not I have too much chloramine in my water. I am aware that there is a way by which you measure total chlorine (chloramine + chlorine = total chlorine?) and then measuring just chlorine and by doing so determining chloramine content. Am I just being paranoid. Btw, my last grow came out fantastic being that I went 14 weeks with a strain I have only grown once before and I have never been over 9 weeks with a strain.... I would show you pics, but at this point it's just the same system I have shown with it's little defunct submersible mag drive in one of the buckets instead of the inline. I will be building another system soon to go in another room so hopefully I can by then acquire a camera worth a shit. I have thought about doing other types of rigs for the new room, but tbh, I come back to the snypemobeel every time due to easy of use.

I don't know what to say about your chloramine. I don't use city tap. My water comes from the ground and is pretty nice. I add chlorine via Clorox Bleach (unscented and NOT splash guard). My systems kick ass! You really need to hook one up and see for yourself. They are prefect for short VEG times and massive yields made to look easy if you follow most of my techniques. I'm about to post some pics of tonight.

BYTCH - 4,000 Watts - Day 58 Flower
BYTCH (ChemdogDoubleDiesel) is a pretty picky plant to grow. She doesn't like intense light or heat after day 42 of flower or she will tend to run (foxtail). The last couple of weeks of flowering, I take the temps down to 60F and she gets much more resin. She makes you work for her beauty. This is an 8 pound crop. I'll post more in my other threads:

I'd love to see what you guys are doing so I hope some pictures can come out of this.

Ill get you some more once i get sealed, mini'd, and co2'd. Right now the pics wont do the system justice with my heat issues. Give me couple weeks to get finished up with the upgrades. Wont be long, pulling down current over the next 2 weeks. 1 strain finished now, other will require an extra week or two max.

Sounds good. When you have the ability to control your conditions so that you don't go over 75F, things should look pretty nice. This specific system is incredible. It was never intended for long veg times. I only recommend Vegging in them for no more than 2 weeks. There's really no need to if you're using big lights. Because the plants are in 5 gallon buckets, they only have 3 gallons of solution per bucket which would be 33 Gallons in a 10 plant system. With the Alita AL-60, it produces lots of bubbles that move the top of the solution. That's the problem with a lot of other DWC growers that just use a regular air pump from the grow shop which usually won't supply the air at the same rates that I suggest. I still have not had 1 failure since I came up with my air rate formula and my addition of Chlorine to the system at 0.5-1 PPM. When I was using those other hydro store air pumps I would lose around 50% of my crops to root problems and some of the times I was even using Chlorine. The fact sometimes my systems reach over 90F and I still didn't lose any crops where before they would be toast.

For the grower trying to maximize profits for a cannabis based business, RDWC is the only way to go if you're trying to keep your plant numbers down and you're yields up. This system was never meant to Veg long. I only Veg for up to 9 days in the system and before that another 9 days in VEG-A on floating trays. In the flowering room I only lose 1-1.5 weeks to veg in the flowering room. If your schedule is on point, you could almost pull 5 crops a year and still get 2 pounds per light. Look at these other growers Vegging monsters in soil or coco or whatever else and they are vegging them for 2 months and then flowering them for another 2-3 months. They are lucky if they pull 3 crops per year and they have to pay similar to if they had 5 crops that they didn't have. For personal it's a different story but for business, I don't see any competition unless you're talking about the guy with no Veg time and 50 plants per light SOG.

You look like you have things worked out just fine. :) Also if you're using waterfalls, flooming, venturi's, high flow rates etc... for aeration a DO meter will tell you if the roots are getting enough oxygen (measure at outlet & return).

Yea dont veg too long or you will pay for it :) My current round i put in at 12" and are over 4' tall, completely filled in a 4x4 plus a little extra on the sides. Im sure heat added some to the stretch but still.

I have two questions, that have been on my mind, though.. Hope you have time to answer..

What would you say makes rdwc better than regular dwc? Only difference I can think of is that the solution is the same in all the buckets..?

And a question regarding the pump used. Do you think that a bigger pump is better? It seems to me that as long as there is just some movement it will be good? And what about the size of the connecting pipes, do they have tobe a certain size or is a smaller pipe also good enough?

I think if you use too big of a WATER pump you will pull the roots thru the piping which you dont want to do as it will eventually clog up.
 
Snype, I am running your 10 plant setup under 2000W with a danner supreme 5. I built the system exactly to your specs and had no problems for the first 4 weeks, now my pump is failing. It will work for 5 min then get loud and cease to function for 15 min. Have you had any similar problems?

Hi

Check the level of water in last two buckets. I had similar problem due to root clogging the line.
If something is clogging the line the level in last two buckets will go low and the pump begin to suck the air. This make it to vibrate and making noise.
Also check the filters and clean them.
You must check levels in last two buckets regularly.
I had to slow down the flow of water because i had almost an inch difference between first and last bucket, because pump sucked more than gravity can deploy. Plus roots were clogging system from time to time.
Do testing and see how water level is changing. You could use same equipment as in tutorial but one inner diameter different for just a bit will change your settings at the and.

Snype do you have anymore of the neoprene washers for sale? Or a supplier for them?

Not right now but ill be ordering a few thousand in about 30 days. Ill keep the thread updated. Moving into a house to contruct a new grow in the next month so I need some as well.
 
Romuros, the level in my last 2 buckets has been significantly lower from day 1 but I chalked this up to the floor not being perfectly even. I cleaned the filter and it was getting close, entire surface of mesh covered in gunk and broken pieces of hydroton rattling around. I though once the filter was cleared the problem would go away but now I am waiting for the lights to come on so I can check the in line pipes.
 
The 3 largest plants in my system had huge donkey-dick root formations chasing the flow of water into the next bucket and clogging my system. Attribute this to the pitfalls of rapid growth. From here on out I will need to check the root mass of each plant weekly, or at least check the levels in my last 2 buckets more often. I wish I'd had the sense to check this last night before disassembling the intake pipe for the pump 3 times.

You just need to check the levels in last two buckets daily. If something is clogging lines the level will go down immediately.
I also lift up the net pots and go with hand in buckets and pull out roots if they are in lines.
I found out that there is a moment in root growth when they are in level with the line input and get sucked in lines easy. After the root mass get bigger it's eventual also heavier and will not clogging as often.
You also need to reduce water flow if roots are still clogging lines. You can do this by closing a main valve a bit.

How about for 7,601w+?

That would depend on how many plants you would want to grow and how big you would want them. You could always use the formulas that I have here and just put in more systems until your desired watts are completed. Or you could redesign bigger systems and bigger pipes for bigger plants and more light which would also increase your Veg times.
