Light for sativa-mothers

Hi,
Im growing for a short while now and am going to get some ace sativas (Panama, Nepalese Jam, Bangi Haze and Golden Tiger or Malawi).
Now i'm curious about how many hours of light mothers from these strains/phenos need, to stay in veg.
I guess the usual 18 hours won't be enough, but how much would keep them from flowering?

Thanks for the answer, WGardener.
I will keep my light cycle at 18 hours and react if necessary.

good choice on seeds, great company and reliable. with that being said sativas do not require long day cycles to stay in veg since on the equator the day cycle in "summer" is only around 13-14 hours max, unlike in the north and south of the equator it is longer.

i ran mine at 14 hours without issue and when i flowered i used 13 hour nights and 11 hour days. HTH

@Ranger....so you said you used 14on/10off for veg then flipped to 11on/13off for flower? what strains have you ran like this without any issues?

thank you, i have no doubt about it. the reputation in this forum is amazing!
like a child in a candy store, i ordered panama, nepalese jam, erdpurt, pakistan chitral kush, bangi haze and golden tiger (and got tikal and orient express). it will take a long time to select mothers with my spacial limitations, but i guess it will be worth it :peacock:

I'd like to know that too, since I'm not sure if it will be that easy for all strains.

@BluesHarp: thanks. i will start with panama and pck around mid of october. until then, i will be busy and have to be patient :dance013:

I do 16 on 8 off for my veg, I have Ace Zamaldelica and
Sam's Thai Haze x Skunk. Also some assorted Wide Leaf Drug types.

Flower 11 on 13 off. The girls, and boys, love it.

I veg under 72w PL L.

Good choice of cultivars, totally worth it! My next from Ace is the Nepal Jam.

Do you do outdoor too?

Ive did too - 16/8 for golden tigers and other sativas and no problem. I bet small pot is problem for some Zamal auto-leaning phenos

thanks for contributing to this thread.
i want to go outdoor too. i ordered erdpurt and pakistan chitral kush for that reason. the sativas probably won't survive the fall in this region.

this year i tried to go outdoor, but my plants were killed by boars.
lesson learnt. next year, i will install chicken wire, or wire mesh around it and hope that it is sufficient to keep the invaders away.

yes that's correct, i ran Purple Haze and Panama Red with that schedule and they seemed to enjoy it. any full sativas should respond well to that.

the light is very intense on the equator where full sativas hail from, but the days are shorter then in the farther north or farther south of the equator. some sativas wont flower under 12/12 for that reason, some seem to require 13 hours of darkness to begin flowering.

Hi user-name,

As other users pointed out, you can keep without problems your sativa mothers in veg mode with 18/6 photoperiod. Panama, Golden Tiger, Malawi, Nepal Jam don't auto flower with pot size restrictions and you can keep them alive in clone form with this light cycle.

For example, you can easily keep Haze clones in small pots and under fluoros, but fast flowering indica strains like ErdPurt need intense light and bigger pot to avoid the flowering in the mother room.

Usually, very fast flowering indicas bred in the North, and sativa strains with auto flowering traits need strong light intensity, enough root space and higher photoperiods to avoid flowering.
