Terpenation at Terpene Station

Hi guys. I've been running my mkiii for about 3 days now and am able to get a nice colored extract that shatteres up nicely with pure bud. But I can't get it to do so on trim. It remains darker and wont shatter for me. It stayes closer to a sticky taffy. I have tried running it loose, running it thightly packed
packed, I have tried using just my rub box to break it up. I have tried the colander method. They all give me similar results. I am using an iced tank with no heat other than a periodic dip in lukewarm water during recovery to help with butane recovery. Any advice for me?

If your processes are identical, your trim is probably just very old and dry. Older material comes out darker and sappier, usually.

That's what's throwing me for a loop. It's all trim that came down last week. Just finished drying it and my buds a week ago

Conversely it might also be darker if there is too much moisture left and you're not pre-freezing your material, thus extracting more chlorophyll.

What is included in the trim?

Describe your technique?

There is more wax and fewer trichomes on the sugar trim and even more on mixed trim.

Monoterpene's act as a solvent to the diterpene cannabinoids, so can make it soupy.

Hi Gray wolf. My trim is only sugar trim and buds. Though low very low bud content (good trimmers) for my technique: I dry my stuff on screens right from my supplier in a room with a dehumid to the point where the small buds will crumble but not dust. I then I do a quick pass in my rub box (your design) to separate any larger stems. It then goes through the course colander with a leather glove. I pack the tube evenly with a fitted dowel firm but not tight. When running my terp I follow your direction to the letter for operation. 3 cycles for pure bud 4 for trim when running I use zero heat other than the odd dip in 85 water to de-ice. Until last night I wasn't freezing my column. But am now. I then thin film purge in my vacuum chamber for 1 hr at 115 though that is relative some stuff stops bubbling sooner than others.

I haven't been winterizing my stuff for lack of ethanol it's hard to come by in Canada.

Though I may have found my answer pouring through net and talking to my grower. This stuff was grown to its max because of an ac failure and heat shock. Leading to more mature plants and more amber trichomes. Can't change the colour of trichomes no matter your technique. Now that I have tried a frozen column it's clearer and closer to my bud shatter. It still won't set up but winterizing may set it for me. Though it's still a bit darker and slightly more amber than golden. Do not very marketable. So it's going to make bubble hash and not shatter.

Any advice you have is always a pleasure Mr graywolf and everyone else out there. I have learned so very much from the wealth of information you have shared, too many people Bogart.

The shatter patty picked it a little texture from my flash that reflected some light from my flash and the other peice is from the trim

Hey guys I had a question, for those of all of you who freeze your tubes before you run: How are you capping them in the freezer? Would it be worth the while to use stainless end caps and put the tubes under vacuum while freezing?

Just finished this beast of a thread, took less than 24 hours!

So, one could build a system using these custom parts from glacier a 16AMP-G600-150-025-0375 end cap clamped to a B3155MP-G1200-600 12" - 6" tri reducer, to utilize a 12"x12" spool/recovery pot?

Does that make sense?

How often does glacier tanks restock items? I need a system asap and feel I could build one but fear I will be stuck waiting for parts to become available.

The terppextractors diy system for a grand isnt bad, but If I could buy the pieces myself I could probably spend the same or close to it but with kick ass hoses and fittings and maybe the top flush and column swap pieces too?

Why does the recovery take longer after each subsequent cycle, the last one taking longer because of the extra fluid dumped from the column would make sense for the last one, but I think Im missing something there.

Also, If anyone knows of SS tri clamp supplies in the MKIII and IV sizes from a Canadian source please share!

Thanks to all those who have posted and shared, and ICdog for helping me grasp some basics!

Yes that is how I run my system. The reducer makes things awesome. Call terppextractors and see if they can't hook you up with the custom parts perhaps.

The flood cycles take longer because more liquid butane accumulates in the collection which is harder to gas off, and more vapor going into the recovery tank which is raising the psi ect. Hope I'm making sense, it's pretty late.

We dry to 10/15% water content and scrub through a 10 mesh screen only when we are extracting bulk oil, but when we want bragging rights blonde shatter and waxes, we leave the water content closer to 25% and only lightly break up the buds into 3/8"-1/2" chunks.

That will limit the number of bleeding ruptured cells, and you can further lighten the color by freezing the material to 0F before extracting with 0F butane.

Yes. We pack the columns and cap them before freezing to minimize atmospheric humidity icing over the trichomes.

Glacier Tank is hit or miss and if you aren't on their wait list, the incoming may be sold before you get a shot at it.

They are reliable and eventually you will have the parts you need.

Custom hoses are expensive.

It takes longer to recover the butane from the ever thickening oil mixture, than it does butane alone, because the butane molecules can't as readily break free of the surface tension.

Ok so the only part that glacier tank is way behind on is the custom MKIII lid, terpp is outta stock as well, and I dont think anyone else sells them standalone.

I noticed glacier tanks other custom welded 6" lid with 3 - 1/4" ports flush on bottom, are these useful? Could I get a downstem and dump stem welded on or just get a regular 6" cap machined and welded?

Why do you even want to work off a 6" lid? It's so small and cramped. A 10" lid barely has enough room for all the ports and sight glasses you need

Its just way better and easier to change the size of the column and have a huge recovery spool and lid.

I had 2 mk3 because specialized formulations are good sales people , ended up selling one mk3 and have another one gathering dust...
