Just a quick update...

Planted all the seeds 8 days ago. Out of the 5 planted (1 was an auto) all of them cracked and 2 of them died before they could break the surface.

Horticube RootCubes s-u-c-k for germinating. Avoid like the plague. I'll never do anything but pure coco ever again. Learned this lesson for the last time, I did.

So there's 3 plants started. Hopefully, one of them is a girl. I don't feel like having to break out more seeds but I will if need be. Will update with a picture later tonight.

How r those comming along dewd?

Really slowly right now. They are about a week along at this point. I have transplanted into a 4" starter pot with some coco and a myriad of beneficial organisms.

I'll post some pictures tonight but it's a sad sight to see. Those Horticubes held way too much water in the bottoms of them, soggy feet for the girls. I broke away as much of them as I dared before transplanting.

On a brighter side... The one plant that had a busted tap root I was able to plant and have it come back to life. So, there's 4 plants now, assuming they all survive this first bump in the road.

You know what mate, on a keep it simple grow you should have probably just used coco. They've got their fans, but me personally, I'll never use a cube of anything to start seeds in. They're good for clones, and a lot of people use them with success for seeds, but their structure is much better for clones than seeds imo.

*I've just deleted the last bit about starting more seeds. I thought I read that you only had two seedlings survive...?
Now I've just seen it's four.. which should be good.

The extreme simplicity part of this grow won't start until I take clones. Currently, I'm just growing some plants to get a female so I can establish genetic consistency.

Now everyone else knows about Rootcubes, and my product knowledge is that much more broad. I shy away from advice given by people with limited, narrow, experiences and as such I look to expand my knowledge base at any opportunity.

The setback here is maybe 3-4 days. They should have established 2nd leaf sets at this point but are really just now starting to work on those. They looked BAD the other night but are progressing nicely now.

Here's some pictures. Really, nothing to show yet.

First picture is a basic overview of the grow room, fans, and clamp lights over the containers.

The second picture has the salvaged plant on the left. The funky cotyledon are from the seed shell not coming off by itself, she needed some help.

the third picture has the first plant to hatch. The tap root managed to get out of the horticube and was just kind of laying there in the clear plastic container, so she's a wee bit pissed about that, but she'll be fine in a week.

Well that's a good thing. I can't even imagine how much more grow stuff you would have hoarded if you took EVERY swinging dicks advice:biggrin: I saw your list:biggrin:

See those fans, you'll get much better results if you flip them so they're pointing up under and directly at the bulb, not the plant.

If you don't mind me asking, Why?

Nah, it's all good right now. When the lights come up the setup will all change.

If you don't mind me asking, Why?

Because I started the thread now, and not when I had the clones.

I have 1/2 a bottle of CANNA Coco A&B and some rapid start I plan to apply too. I've done that a few times in coco so I know what to expect. I need to get off the "new stuff" train and get things on track for cloning.

Then we see, as simple as it gets, Pure Blend Versus CNS17.

Sorry to tease you :tiphat:

:tiphat:

While I'm helping, looks like they need a little Cal-mag, maybe a boost of Po-sil, foliar of Magic Green every time the lights flip on and off, and it's never too early to ram PK boosters down their throat.

Should do the trick

so what's goin on here? you're growing out some seeds with basic nutes and you're inviting everyone to come play?

i just popped some seeds that i hope will germ. i'm also using coco...mix and lucas for this run. can i join? most likely not gonna be able to take clones first and all that. just flowering from seed.

Pretty close. I'm starting some seeds so I can find a mother plant. This way all the plants I am testing have the same genetics, same needs, and as many other variables that I can eliminate as well.

I appreciate your desire to want to pitch in a little but we should probably keep this to clones. The 6/9 and a pinch thread is going strong and might be a better home for the information you'll be able to offer. Just as far as, if I were looking for info on 6/9 feeding methods I'd probably go their first. But all are welcome regardless.

Edit:
As I was considering this today... I think that one of the primary tenants of this thread is to do a side-by-side comparison between two simple nutrient systems. I've chosen Pure Blend and CNS17 from Botanicare, but it would be awesome if someone else could do a 6/9 FloraSeries versus Maxi, FloraNova, or FloraDuo.

Plants are recovering and doing much better now that they are in their coco homes. I just transplanted to #2 smart pots with about 4L of coco in each. I really like these #2 planters, I might make the switch permanently and keep filling them about 1/2 full.

Right now they are getting about 5ml/gal of Canna Coco A+B, 2ml/gal Rapid Start, and a few drops of Orca. For being about 25 days from Germination it does seem like I'm still about a week behind the typical growth at this time. Those Root Cubes... Rabble rabble... But on the up side it's pretty tough to tell which of these plants had 1/2 the tap root busted and was really stunted. I only have 10 days from now to get them to a point where I can clone them. Now that they are in the new containers things should finally start to blow up in about a week and without any training there's nothing to hold them back now. If you look closely you can see a ton of new growth working its way out of the tops.

I also just installed a 400w MH in the new Econo Wing. Previously I was running a Block Buster in my 3x3 but it takes up so much space there's no room for the filter and vent. Temperatures have been running in the low to mid 80's so I'll be adjusting my ventilation setup to try and get my exhaust point a little closer to the heat. Hopefully I can get myself in a situation where I can keep the intake around 70-72 and the interior temperatures under 80.

Depends on plant size more than anything. Every three to four days at most I would guess based on the #1s I run. Fabric planters are a must for me, the root systems they build are insane and with enough time the plants could dry them out in a day.

So is this still a base nute no booster challenge?

Well... Maybe not exactly.

I am still about a week behind. Will have some pictures to post tonight. It's a little bit of a bummer but they are just now filling out the inner branches well enough to take the clones I'll be needing. I just don't want to take them too soon, so it could be another 5-7 days before I get them going. It is what it is.

We are close guys and gals! Once they root I'll get them transplanted and the challenge begins.
