Check out nutri techs site for good explanations of B. It takes B to allow the flow of sugar from the plant to the soil at night. That sugar feeds the bacteria which releases minerals from the soil and makes them available to the plant which combines them with sugar from photosynethesis.

See how the leaves on boobs plants lay down at night...great sugar transfer. His soil and plants are working together making both of them healthy...plant feeds the soil sugars, aminos and maybe some fatty acids and those allow the soil to feed the plant.

But you want balance not a hot shot...make sure you first understand the relationship between Ca and B and also Si. Real high B can kill a plant without enough Ca.

Photomag is currently my favorite B source because it is specifically combined with photosynthesis enhacing minerals. But there are other choices also.

When my leafs lay down in the evening its do to a temporary loss of sugar into the soil? I love how little I seem to know about the daily processes my plants go through.

I probably benefit from great soil and lots of water.

I love browsing this thread. One of my favorite things to do every day, after walking out into my garden and catching a scent of the flowers. You guys rock it. I can only hope that I can get to your level. My girls are doing ok, but nothing like what I've seen on here. Its actually kind of depressing when I think about how much better they could have done. I will surely make some adjustments for next year, starting with bigger mounds and improving my water quality. My well water has come in at a consistent pH of 7.4 and EC of 250ppm. I took the lazy man's approach and watered straight from the well. Next year I will fill my reservoirs and pH adjust. I know the soil should be able to buffer that, but I have a feeling that a steady flow of that water can alter that soil pH.

Anyways, a few other adjustments to come, but ok with my start. Thanks to you all for sharing your succeses as well as your failures, although after a couple years of browsing here it seems the succeses are trumping the failures!

Maybe my favorite girl in the garden. Started from seed. Big, bushy, full of vigor. She's loved the soil. I hope to keep her around for years to come. Only problem I see is probably a late finish. Maybe I'll dep her next year.

Personally I wouldn't mess with your water. Unless you're able to test the ph of your runoff and soil ph, then how do you really know which way to adjust your water ph? What if you already have a perfect ph in your soil? What if it likes a higher ph water? Then again everyone else here seems to ph their water...

I would have to ph adjust 4,000 gallons of water each day. Clearly not a viable solution.

It's called hog wire or hog panels. Comes in different sizes and thickness. Starting to see a lot of people around here use it so I thought I would give it a go on a few.

It would actually work a lot better if I had symmetrical plants and could plan on them growing through it at the perfect time. from different seed I have everything from 5x5s to 12x12s, all totally random.

I hear you. So to balance the soil pH to the water, I assume you try to adjust to that during the soil preparations? Test your soil after its had a season of water being run through it and then adjust one way or the other with your ammendments? I can see the soil having a better buffering capacity with large amounts, but in a yard of soil I have to imagine that the soil pH has changed after prolonged exposure to the water and the minerals and metals that are being tranferred with it...

Actually that's totally viable. And not expensive if youre in the know. Large organic farms adjust ph, golf courses adjust if necessary its totally doable and common. Not everybody has that gopher perfect ph water piped in from the springs of pandora...i adjust 2k gallons every day from an 8 + ph. Organic have ur soil tested at the end of this season and go from there. I did the same last year no ph adjust and my soils ph got hacked to 8.5 and useless for this season. This year I ph and my garden looks much healthier to me. Mendo sweet garden is that a pruning walkboard? I like it have an awesome finish

Hey Pono. In adjusting the Ph of the water in large quantities like that, what is the best Ph Down to use. I have been using AN Ph Down, but I am sure there is a better solution, or maybe cheaper.
