So what is that stuff ... Ball Lube ? as in 601 Fluid lube ? Yuck.. Thanks for pointing this out Jdubba . I can imagine that I would need a lot more than one or two spent trim runs to clean out that stuff from any ball valves.

What happens to ball valves that have been used with no lube for a while (i.e. turned on/off more than 100 times)? I'm concerned with the potential for micro lacerations to start occurring with dried out ball valves, in addition to just being really hard to turn. Anyone experienced anything close to this?

That's a good point. I'd also like to know.

We've run some of the units for several years without issue with the ball valves sticking.

Some of the 2" ball valves do require some effort to move.

Is it possible to thoroughly clean smaller ball valves without disassembling? The supplier recommended to not disassemble them due to the possibility of damaging the seals.

PTFE is a pretty slippery polymer in its self, it's why a lot of non-stick pans use a PTFE coating. The balls and insides of the valves are polished in such a way that you won't get lacerations on the PTFE packing glands.

Just like GW said, operating the valves without lube isn't a issue. The larger valves tend to get a bit sticky, but that would eventually happen anyways as the valve is slowly cleaned of its lubrication over time.

You certainly don't need any unnecessary oil in your material. I've noticed a good run of "spent" & followed by a rinse, cleans out all the pieces of teflon tape, pipe dope, oil shavings..ect. from a new rig quite nicely.

The stainless sanitary valve is specified for applications requiring a low co-efficient of friction. They are designed to run dry, however will one day wear out & need to be replaced.

They pack those things in grease to prevent them sticking in storage. Especially the larger ones that require a bit more then a push.

Very good info. Thanks for the heads up.

So I finally got my vacuum hose, gauge and coupler yesterday and was able to finally pressure test the Terpp unit. The site glass is leaking like a sieve. Anyway to tighten them up?

Some of the problems with these glasses is with the protection being too long. We are shipping out replacement glasses that have been turned down and tested so the gaskets will create a seal.

I have been lurking here for 4 years now. Its about time for a first post.

Im glad I found this thread.
I just ordered the 450g DIY kit last night (and a 30# tank). I'm stoked about it. I plan on ordering an extra recovery pot and valves from Glacier Tank so I can have a second inline recovery pot that I can remove and put it in my freezer for winterization. Then put back together and have a second dump into a lower pot. I have seen winterization features on unit before but from my personal experience, the waxs dont drop out that fast. I have chilled an alcohol / bho mix with dry ice and did not see anything form. But I did see it after sitting in freezer for a day. Im thinking it takes time to work out and clump up.

I had no idea about the oils in the valves. You just saved me a pound of awesome popcorn. Thank you.

There are some things that are unclear to me:
The 450g option on the site does not change the parts list reflecting how the 3" column gets adapted to the 1" lid. Hopefully its a second concentric reducer / clamp / seal. That way I can still use 1.5" spools.

Are the new site glasses coming with viton rings?

Not sure what to make of this company yet. I went to them after a failed attempt at a red beard in April.

No site glasses anymore. They were failing at 90 psi. I wasn't told this till after paying for an MKlll. I asked if I would receive a partial refund since I paid for it, but it hadn't been shipped. The sales woman said no refund, it just so happened that their expenses for other items increased the exact amount the discontinued sight glass would have decreased the price. Kind of put me off a bit, but I didn't plan on using the sight glass anyway.
I was told my unit would ship the following Monday, they were only waiting on filter dryers. I asked if they would just ship the unit separate from the dryers and I was told that was no problem and I would receive a tracking number shortly. The following Tuesday I called to check status and was told nothing shipped because now they are waiting on hoses from a supplier, but it would ship that day. Thursday I call and am told that the hose supplier screwed them and they are driving to Denver to go pick them up and my unit would ship that day. Well it's Friday afternoon now and no word from them, they are not answering the phone today either. So it's a guessing game for me. I understand they are busy, but some communication would be helpful after they continue to drop the ball.

It seems they aren't really monitoring this thread anymore, but if they are hopefully this reminds them to not make commitments they can't keep, and if that does happen it needs to be communicated to the customer. As my Russian friends say "they are trying to fuck me without kissing first".

Lizard, I can assure you they are still following the thread. I can also assure you they will be getting back to you once they get back from Cannacon in Tacoma, WA. Pretty sure they have been gone since Tuesday or Wednesday. Sometimes suppliers hold things up, this can't be controlled. My advice to Terpp is to under promise and over perform. Then you will always be a rockstar

I understand suppliers hold things up, but they promised to ship it without the filter dryer, and then later tell me they have no hoses either, wtf, don't they have a computer with inventory. I wanted to avoid trying to source parts to build my own, I am now regretting that decision. I also question why on the website they are telling people to use care saver pumps, I am an amateur and I know not to use care savers for pharm grade extractions.

At least they are at cannacon drumming up business, cause it does not look like I would be a repeat customer.

icdog, do you resell these guys extractors in canada? or just make a knock off

Lol your a bit confused, terp extractors builds the knock off mk's. It is not their design other then the bidirectional flow configuration, which I might add is a very nice feature.

I don't think the term "knock off" is used to describe something built off of designs that were released to everybody, for this exact purpose.

Their version perhaps?

ESPECIALLY considering they are made of the same parts, same material, etc etc

True, I didn't mean to demean their product or their company, just thought it should be pointed out. They have made it clear that they are very appreciative to gw for the design and I commend them for that. I mean I build "knockoffs" too, so I'm not hating.
