Can I use the tank my butane came in as a recovery tank?

I bought a 5 lbs butane tank and it is a typical tank that looks like a propane gas grill tank. I am wondering if anyone has or uses one now for a recovery tank. Thanks!

That I am not sure about. I know the recovery tank I received with my bhogart is just a little smaller than what I want.

A 50# refrigerant tank is the same size as an LP-5 propane/butane tank, but has both a dip tube and a vapor port valve. Does yours have two valves on top?

I have a 50# master cool refrigerant tank and I have the damnedest time trying to recover into the same tank, at least it feels that way. In your opinion, does having a separate recovery tank from the solvent tank make the extraction more efficient or does it not matter? At this point it is a huge pain in my ass to constantly remove the solvent tank from the ice bath and then replace it promptly after weighing and then removing again! Plus, it seems to be heating up the butane quite quickly with the removal of the ice bath, even for only a couple of minutes at most. Thank you.

We typically leave the tank in an ice bath and chill the butane as it is being injected, so we have enough tank pressure just use push pull, but on Joe's ultra low temperature system, he uses a second tank hooked vapor port to vapor port, which he heats to provide higher injection pressure.

We don't have to weigh the tank before and after, because we time how long it takes to pass the first volume through the column, and time the total flow from that number.

IE: If it takes 1.5 minutes to pass one column volume from the injection port to the discharge sight glass, it takes 3.0 minutes to pass two volumes.

If you don't have a sight glass there, you can tell when the column overflows on the first flood, by simply holding your hand on the top vent fitting and noting when it suddenly changes from cold to way colder.

We also have a sight glass in the lid to monitor how much LPG is in the collection pot, so how much room is left.

Disposable containers that gas comes in should never be refilled. That is a dangerous bad practice. Disposable tanks are very thin. They are made to hold gas at normal temperatures and pressures. They are not designed for increased pressure from a recovery pump.
