There are a bunch of solubles in the castings but things like oyster shell flour need contact with biology free up the Calcium. Are you guys gently working this stuff in on the surface? A more soluble option is gypsum and if your plants are lacking in N you can use something like Calcium Nitrate. I would be playing with that a bit more this year if my plants had less tissue Nitrogen levels.
Cep - Normally I have 3-4" of fine redwood mulch that I move to the side and top dress. I also scratch it into the surface. Then after a couple days I make an especially heavy watering to help drive the amendments even deeper. I also like to do fertilizer spikes by taking a 1/2" wooden dowel and make about 6 holes around the plant. (never near the rootball) Then add the desired top dressing. In the past, this has worked great for me.
Here is a cheap trick if you need semi soluble ca and p. Take 1cup srp per gallon of water. Throw the srp in the container and blast it with water. You will get a baby shit brown color...let that settle out til it is just a milky color. What is left in the water is the soluble and colloidal ca and p. Readily available
Mcgruff- How much of that seabird do you broadcast per yard? I have some of that.

Thanks to everyone for the responses! I noticed that many of the ladies are a little lighter green and needing the N boost for the stretch. They've been sucking from the older leaves, so I had some 2 1/2 yr old composted manure under a tarp, so I threw that on them for now. Got a little liquid shit I'll mix and toss on em. Great tip about the calcium, as I spaced that! Timing for me is a little off cuz I haven't done an outdoor in over twenty years! LOL Better late than never though...

Do you adjust the pH? Have you experimented with adding citric acid to the slurry to increase availability?
I do not ph. I am of the opinion that mineral chemistry on the cec sites drives soil ph...so I see using acid as a waste of time.
Different story with soluble foliars. But in the soil I no worries

Amount used depends on what's in your soil. My Ca cec is around 67-71% and I needed more S. I think I used about ten additional pounds per yard lightly worked into the top inch.

I work in 5 x 10' raised beds, so I figure my PSG by square feet of surface area. This is very strong stuff so I strongly recommend to not overdo it. I suggest 10-12 pounds per 1000 square feet of surface area. My beds are about 2 yards and I used around a cup and a half each.
Gypsum is excellent, I would add more if I hadn't already added 40 lbs per bed. You almost cant use too much, I recommend 15 to 20 lbs a yard, at least 10. It's cheap, readily available calcium , your plants will love you[/quote]
Mcgruff, thanks for that info. I have 6x6 raised beds, so 36 S.F. of surface area, but there is almost 2yds in each hole. I'll take heed and go light like you said. If you suggest 10#'s to 1000sf then that's a 1:100 ratio, if my math is right, or the same as 1# to 100sf.; which means .36#'s or close to that should work. Thanks for the tips.

Does that mean your plants are 15' on center?
No it means that from the bottom of the tpost to the top of the bamboo it's about 15 feet
