are all bag seeds hermaphrodites/freaks of nature?

Hi all! new to the forum here. I'll just get to it...:tiphat:

I met up with my friend the other night. I told him I found bag seeds from a kick-ass blueberry batch and was thinking about trying them out and seeing if I get a beautiful lil girl from it. He told me not to bother since more than likely they'll be hermaphrodites. He explained that the grower probably stressed the plants and that forced them to produce seeds, all of which will be either freaks of nature or hermaphrodites.

Is this true? will they be either freaks or hermaphrodites? Or is there an equal chance that it could just end up being a normal male or female?

Thanks guys!

I would say he was 2/3 right.

When it comes to pollen, it is better to err on the side of caution.

AND - some of the most awesome strains EVER were 'bagseed' finds. e.g. Mr. Soul finding Princess & her 2 sisters in some buds that were supposed to be sinse. Brothers Grimm sold the results of that and now some breeders, e.g. TGA/ Subcool, continue work with the grandchildren.

I suggest keeping the seeds, because they might be really good, and labelling them clearly.

These are the kind of seeds where it's good to have a second smaller flowering room, with careful management of air supply, so any pollen doesn't get into the main flowering room.

most people who grow don't really want seeds, unless they are pollinating it with a male to make more beans...but sometimes that accidental seed turns out to be a legend...usually a higher percentage of self pollinated seeds are females...if the smoke is really good, they might be worth a run...you never know till they are sexed...DJXX

I don't ever breed with, or grow out feminized seeds. If you pollinate a female with hermaphrodite pollen, then you will get feminized seeds. Problem is, they tend to hermi at higher %'s. I grow outdoors with limited number of plants, can't have any chicks with dicks.

Freak of nature?
Its natures way of passing through to grow the following season.
It's we humans who un naturally select out sensimilla for the traits we desire.
Its worth a shot growin them out, though they could be un stable.

Here is my understanding and 2 cents -
there are many ways that seed could have ended up in your bag.
1. it was grown in the presence of a male - in which case the seed could be great
2. something environmental caused it or at least 1 plant it was grown with to hermie. If it hermied due do environmental conditions you may end up with an awesome feminized seed.
3. something genetic caused it or at least 1 of the plants it grew with to hermie. If it was genetically destined to hermie, it could pass those traights on.
4. is a combo of #2+3. the pollen donor genetically had a low stress threshhold and something environmental caused it to hermie.

In the case of options 1 and 2, you may end up with a strong female, or you may end up wit a male. with options 3+4 you could end up with a pollenated crop.

without anymore information, that looks like a 25% chance of a solid female.

I've been encouraged to try random bagseeds, but I have too many beans whose origins i know to be taking that kinda gamble with my space and plant counts.

So, you told someone you want to grow cannabis.

Friends don't stay friends forever, and likely he'll
give you up, accidentally or not.

If you're legal, of coarse, no worries.

Bag seeds can only waste your time at worst, at best, you
may find some good shit.

Keep us posted.

Wow...great info guys! thanks soo much. I am definitely going to try these seeds out one day. currently I have some venice beach afghan and white domina vegging with my himalaya blue diesel auto so my grow box is kinda of full at the moment so no promises on an update anytime soon.

Really found this thread interesting...if anyone has any other input on bag seeds please share.

Thanks again all!

I say grow em'!

I say grow em'!

All I have grown so far is bag seed. In my experience with it, I have never had a hermie. I am sure that I will eventually encounter it but, any bagseed I've grown that started off female ended that way. The bush I have going right now looks like it is going to be some good smoke. The last plant I grew out was not as good. The crappy thing is, there's only one way to find out. I collected some seeds out of a bag of good weed and kept them in a pouch. They were from the same bag so I have gained some knowledge about them as I've grown each plant. The best thing about bagseed is they are free (minus the cost of the bag). It's good for learning purposes because the worst that happens when things go wrong is you scrap a plant and pop some new seeds. This is my plant, product of bagseed

No kidding !

I told a friend who does some work for me, that I like making seeds.

At the internet cafe, at 6 AM in the morning, in front of a friendly acquaintance, I commented about a woman's tattoos.

The friend cautioned me twice, out of the blue, about involvement with her. He wasn't specific, he may even have thought he was doing me a favor.

Thereby telling the 3rd person/acquaintance that I am involved in some kind of contraband.

Classic stupidity. It was a mistake to confide in the friend, but I thought it was the right thing to do, since he was over at my house and I was obviously keepin him away from the grow part of the house.

So it's not always the deliberate rattings, sometimes you can have a security leak just from a thoughtless friend making a comment in front of the general public.
