Cola Sugar Leave Taco - Thoughts?

Mandala 8 Miles High
Outdoor - SE US
Been hot / humid / rainy
3-4 hours direct sun / day
Quality soil - small container though

This plant developed maroon pistols very early.... almost seemed to sprout them as burnt red. I'm a bit over 1 month or so into this flower and have very little crystal production. The sugar leaves in the top cola have taco'd with not a lot of white pistil production. The buds themselves are constantly getting larger so I know it's growing.

The bottom buds seem to be doing better with nice white pistils shooting out.

Any thoughts on the taco'ing and general rough look about the cola?

sorry bud... that sucks.
http://pogenetics.com/PO_testing/?page_id=389 - check it out, may be broadmites. invisible to the naked eye, feed primarily on the meristems, causing leaf deformation, and on the pistils and trichomes.

Nes, I think you're on the right track. That plant has similiar problems mine did when they had broad mites in flower. Most pistils were black or a dark brown color immediately. Bud growth was adversely affected, yet some buds did flower normally where there were no mites, while the afflicted buds suffered horribly.

Hey thanks Nes, Im glad you're getting something useful out of them and sharing them. Those 3 links are invaluable learning tools. I highly recommend them to everyone.

If you really want to step up your game, I recommend reading Understanding pH Management for container grown plants by Bill Argo, and Paul Fisher.

Its 64 pages of pure gold. That little book will help your grow healthier plants than you ever thought possible.

Dave, thanks for the thoughts. Were you able to control or eliminate them?

I eliminated them. There is no settling for controlling them. You must destroy every last one. I did this with dunking my plants into a solution of Forbid 4f Miticide, wait 5-7 days, followed by Avid Miticide, another 5-7 day wait and finally with Forbid again to finish them off. You've got to give the eggs time to hatch, so they can be killed off with the subsuquent treatments.

Then thoroughly clean your grow room. Vauum, and wipe down the walls, your pots, grow equipment, etc

Since you can't dunk your plants, your only option is to get a sprayer, and go to town and hope for the best. Im not sure if I would want to smoke buds that have been treated with miticides though. Id look into that one if I were you.

So I think that I agree with you all that it is mite damage. I'd really like to save the buds but would just as soon cut and toss vs. put chemicals on it. I did a spray with rosemary oil, a spray with Captain Jack's Dead Bug Juice and a spray with 60/40 iso alcohol. Will do another today or tomorrow.

Think this will kill the mite and let my girl return to normal flower operations?

No, but please let us know if it does.

If all your buds look like the ones in the pics, I dont think theres much you can do to save her. Even if you manage to kill the mites, I dont think the affected buds will return to flowering normally. At least not in my experience.

Feel free to try and save her. I know how easy it is to get attached to your plants. I wish you the best of luck though.
