I wouldn't use it without composting it thoroughly. Then add it to Peat Moss or Coco with Perlite, like 20% manure, 20% perlite, 60% peat or coco. Good luck. -granger

yeah about 20% sounds right.

it does have to be composted though, so try and get some older stuff from the heap. it shouldnt smell like sh1t any more if it is safe to use ;)

I agree with the advice given by Granger & VG. You may also topdress with 'fresher' manure if you need a nutrient kick. Are you at one of those huge factory farms?

One of my buddies was a dog trainer and did a stint in prison on the farm. He taught the pigs to do tricks for their meals.

I've read that pigs are the smartest animals except for primates. Smarter than horses and dogs. I'm assuming they weren't counting marine mammals.

In order to use that pig shit you must compost it as every one has told you. No one has told you how to compost it though. You will be fallowing a method called "hot composting". Hot composting is composting with aerobic bacteria, other wise known as bacteria that needs air, as opposed to anaerobic bacteria. It's called hot composting because it literally gets very hot inside to compost pile itself while it's composting. That's how you know its working. In order to do this type of composting you need 3 things; a carbon source, a nitrogen source, and air. Your nitrogen source is your pig poop, your carbon source could be dried hay or wood chips or something like that. The air comes from the organic carbon source since hay or wood chips create air pockets in the mix. Hopefully your pig farm uses wood chips, hay, or something of the like for bedding of some type for the animals. If this already exists as part of the big poop your are collecting then all you need to do is pile it up and let it sit there to compost it. Go turn it with a pitch fork once a week to keep it aerated. If you don't have a carbon source then you need one. If you need to add the dried plant material then add the the dried plant material in layers in between the pig poop and layer them one after the other and it will all decompose super fast.
Now if you are growing in soil in the ground and not in a pit then you can just dig a huge hole and mix the finished product with native soil and plant it in that. As the plant grows, you can then add around a half an inch more of the composted manure ever two weeks in a radius extending from the plants stem out for 2 or 3 feet. This will give you incredible soil and incredible plant roots grow in incredible soil and incredible plants grow from incredible roots.

If you want to get on your bosses good side then pile it ALL up and mix it with the fork lift or the back hoe or whatever heavy machinery they have there once a week then sell it all to the local landscape supply store. Now instead of trying to get rid of pig shit he is selling composted manure!
