the haze is going to give you a hard time at triming...

You can say that two more times. Now that the other plants are out and I can get to her, I have been pulling off the dead and yellowing fan leaves, and some bud leaves as well...so to some extent she will be pre-trimmed. I think with buds with this type of structure, you have to leave a lot of leaf on the finished product. It's not like im going for bag-appeal with Haze.

The smoke reports are on the way, not forgotten. Curing is going well, no sign of molding as I was sort of expecting. Im having trouble keeping my hands out of the Panama cookie jar. The smell of that bud is so Fing great, out of this world. Lemon, but not any type of lemon that I have smelt in weed before, nothing like a chemdawg or anything else. Its more like wayyyy overripe lemon, very deep, warm and sugary. There is more to it than that, tones of incense to be sure, and a hashyness as well. Report to come, like I said.

Also, frost monster is a knockout smoke, unfortunately im pretty sure I took her down too early. There is a burnout effect to the entirely cerebral head high that shouldn't be there. Only two weeks of cure though, maybe in time it will mature.

nice results Bear Riot.
What are you going to fill the tent up with next?

I was just mulling that over this morning. I have a few unsexed seedlings of Pakistan Chitral Kush Purple Pheno x (Destroyer x Chocolope), a totally untested project. The purple traits seem dominant and present in all of them, could be cool to see that... but I really want to do a seed run with Oldtimer's Haze...

...and I want to do a seed run with Panama and Destroyer females and Malawi males and females...

...and I want to do a seed run with Blueberry males and females, a NYC Diesel clone, and a couple of afghan landrace plants.

Problem is I already have the Haze seedlings going, and I want to flower them small, but I don't want to tie up a half-year making Haze seed BEFORE doing one of those other two seed runs. Its looking like it will be a quick indica run, then a Haze seed run with clones.

Let the smoke reports come storming upon our imagination!

As promised, highguy!

First up for reporting is Panama. I'll start by saying that the clone I have bushing out in the greenhouse right now has finally shown its true colors. The strong May sunshine has turned the pistils on the preflowers a nice shade of light pink, so this is, for sure now, a Red phenotype of Ace Panama. Stoked is I!

1. Visual Appeal: Rate the visual appeal of the buds from 1-10 unappealing-excellent. 8-9

This is great looking dry marijuana. In terms of Bag appeal, it is the second prettiest strain I have grown, the only one that ranks above her in this category, that I have grown, is NYC Diesel, and I honestly and objectively don't think I've ever seen nicer looking bud than that, if I may say so myself which I may, so, all in all, top notch. Great trichome coverage and a profusion of red hairs, from a distance this is a darker jar, you might not say 'Red' but definitely not a wholly traditional looking green herb.

(one interesting thing to note is that I left the plant outside after harvesting all but the lower two branches. In 55-60F night temperatures, the buds on those branches purpled up to a beautiful light lavender tone, so maybe in a cooler greenhouse, she will produce some purple! Get yourself over to my greenhouse thread!)

2. Visible Trichomes: Rate the visible trichome content from 1-10 none-totally covered. 9

I think any sane person would conclude that trichomes/crystals are totally covering these buds.

3. Use an X to indicate the colors that are present in the trichome heads under magnification or list the percentages of each color for a more precise report.

Clear [ ] Cloudy [x] Amber [ ] Dark [ ]

After a bit of cure, only amber, nice light colored trichomes.

4. Mark with X the colors that are present in the buds or for a more detailed color analysis rate presence on a scale 1-9 light-dark.

Brown [ ] Green [x] Gold [x] Blue [ ] Grey [ ] White [ ] Red [x] Rust [x] Orange [x] Purple [ ] Black [ ]

5. Bud density: [5] Rate the bud density from 1-10 airy-dense. For samples that are not in their natural state leave this field blank.
Right in the middle of the road. If the Oldtimer's Haze in this grow is a 1, about as airy as you can get, Panama sits at about 5. The bud is nice and compact, but there is air space too. Normal is the word.

6. Use numbers 1-9 on descriptors that apply to the aroma of freshly broken bud where a one indicates a subtle presence and 9 indicates a pronounced presence.
Delete the existing space when marking a descriptor in order to maintain the columns in alignment.

Earthy [2] Berry [2-3] Floral [5] Fruit [5] Hash [4]
Musk [2] Spice [2] Nutmeg [1] Strawberry [3] Lemon [7]

The sweet side of the cannabis spectrum. Not a citrus 'bite', as I have noted, but rather a warm, lush, and smooth ripe lemon overtone with definite floral berry reminders, and backgrounds of exotic spice, incense, and egyptian musk. The cure is bringing out stronger smells in almost all categories, but when the jar is opened, and it often is, I usually find myself expressing out loud how awesome it smells, even if I'm alone. It just needs to be said.

7. Aroma [8-9] Rate the aroma from 1-10 repulsive-delightful. Use freshly crumbled bud for best results.

Top notch. I grew out a chocolope dominant pheno of C99 x Chocolope that I doubt will ever be beaten in the smell dept., this jar definitely ranks in the same league though.

8. Seed content [0] Rate seed content from 0-10 none-fully seeded.
Not a seed in any of the bud from this grow, I think the Frost Monster nanner was impotent.

9. Weeks cured [2] If known enter the number of weeks your sample has been cured. If desired repeat SSR after an additional two weeks of curing.

This shouldnt be news to anyone but the cure is making this herb smell better and better, and the high nicer all the time. The problem is I don't think I can save this from myself long enough to give it a proper cure.

Address these questions while smoking.

...looks like I have to smoke another bowl. Well, if I HAVE to

1. Please use a clean instrument for the evaluation. Enter information below that will identify the instrument as follows:

Water pipe (enter bong, hooka, bubbler etc) [ ]
Vaporizer (enter the brand name) [ ]
Pipe (size-type, ie medium-glass) [x]
This is my homemade pipe/water pipe. I used three different length pieces of copper pipe, 1'', 6'', and 24'', connected by three 90 brass coupling elbows. A 'Y' valve functions as the carb, letting it clear quickly, and that connects to a common brass garden hose nozzle that functions as the bowl. Each bowl gives three 'milky' full hits, despite its small size, and maybe a couple of residual pulls. It is a highly efficient piece of equipment, and its not going to break, ever. You can change out the bowl, and there are different types of brass hose nozzle with different 'bowls', and they are $7.95 at the hardware store, and I can find new parts anywhere in the country. Then theres the fact that this pipe can be taken apart and look it looks like components of an irrigation system, slick sh*t. Then theres the fact that I can alter the size/capacity of this thing to anything I want. I could screw a regular garden hose onto the end of it and make it into a 100 footer.

It is called The Bamboozler.

Now you see what this Panama is doing? I can't stop talking!

Joint (enter brand of papers) [ ]
Other (specify):

2. Use numbers 1-9 on descriptors that apply to the taste where a one indicates a subtle presence and a nine indicates a very pronounced presence.
Delete the existing space when marking a descriptor in order to maintain the columns in alignment.

Earthy [2] Fruit [8] Hash [6] Citrus [9]
Spice [2] Nutmeg [2] Strawberry [7] Lemon [9] Menthol [4]

The smoke is surprisingly close to the smell, which is very cool. I put '6' for Hash but thats not quite the taste, its more of a thick, oily background. Not acrid, not bitter, but sweet, floral, lemony, and more berry with a 'thick' feel to it. Very good for just 2 cure weeks. Nice on the exhale, and so smooth I only cough on the BIGGEST of hits, which, it turns out, adds to it's deceptive nature. This is the only bud in the collection I have at the time of this report that I can most definitely smoke too much of. Thats rare for me.

If appropriate return to this question after 5-10 minutes and mark
with X any unmarked descriptors for lingering aftertaste.

3. Taste [9] Rate your impression of the taste from 1-10 unpleasant-delicious.

4. State of dryness [5] Rate the dryness of the bud from 1-10 wet-dry where 5 is ideal.

I use a humidity monitor inside of the jar, and for this stage of the curing, I keep the jar at 65% rh. I have brought it down as gradually as possible from a beginning rh of 75% right after jarring. No mold and no spoilage.

5. Smoke ability [10] Rate the smoke ability of the sample from 1-10 harsh-smooth.

A very positive sticking point for this herb, its well velvety.

6. Smoke expansion [ ] Rate how the smoke expands in the lungs from 1-10 stable-explodes.

Im sorry but I have no idea what this means. I don't burst out coughing, like I said, very little throat pain, easy to hold a hit in. Too easy.

Address final questions immediately after effects have worn off.

1. Dosage [3 or fewer] Enter the number of hits taken to reach desired effects.

All winter I had not much to do and was smoking two, sometimes three 110 millimeter joints a day, each was over a gram, and I can get, LIKE NOW, way way high from just finishing one bowl out of the Bamboozler.

2. Effect onset [5] Rate how quickly the effect hit from 1-10 immediate-major creeper.

I don't really notice it to be either. Maybe a little more creeper than quick, I usually start packing another bowl and then don't smoke it. Another positive of the Bamboozler is I can set it down and it solidly holds a packed bowl.

3. Sativa influence [8-9] Rate the sativa influence detected from 0-10 none-extreme. Sativa influence is best described as a clear and energetic mental effect.

Now we get to the meat of the thing. This is a pure Sativa, plain and simple. An experienced sativa connoisseur would not mistake this for a hybrid. You are awakened and uplifted, motivated and talkative. That said, I put 8-9 because there is a drifty, disoriented, dense effect to the high that is totally enjoyable and not to be confused with a lethargic Indica stone.

The breeders describe the high of the Panama Red phenotype with that adjective, dense, and once you smoke it you know exactly what they mean. They also said once that is was far from being a 'dirty' sativa, and once you smoke it you definitely get that, too.

4. Indica influence [0] Rate the indica influence detected from 0-10 none-extreme. Indica influence is best described as a sedative,
lethargic or numbing effect that affects the body.

5. Potency [8-9+] Rate the potency of the sample from 0-10 none-devastating.

As I have made clear, I have plenty of smoking experience and this does the trick and then some.

6. Duration [2+] Indicate the number of hours the effects lasted.

7. Tolerance build up [4] Rate how quickly tolerance builds from 0-10 none-rapid. Leave this field blank if you have not used this sample repeatedly.

Im going to wait to pass judgement on this, so far, its still getting me high as hell.

8. Usability [check] Rate on a scale of 1-9 where a one indicates the worst time of day to consume this strain and a nine represents the ideal time of day.
Leave field(s) blank if you have not yet formed an opinion.

Morning - wake up [7] Day - work [6] Evening - relax [6] Night - sleep [3]

This is the herb that I am smoking in the mornings. It works then, its fine while I am working, and its has a surprising relaxing quality to it, I heard someone say 'sensual', thats accurate. Its a sensual, warm, happy, and very floaty sativa. Not for bedtime for me.

9. Overall satisfaction [8-10] Rate your overall satisfaction from 1-10 poor-Holy Grail.

Wasn't planning on keeping this plant because she has a mutated leaf that shows up about 1 out of every 10 leaves the plant grows. Its got a twisted tip and a variegated yellow slash pattern, not yellowing from deficiency, but like a patterned leaf. I'll try to get a photo.

10.Ability and conditions [7-8] Rate your overall ability to judge from 1-10 low-high. Consider experience, strain familiarity, atmosphere,
current tolerance and most importantly the condition and preparation of the sample.

I feel pretty seasoned despite being on the younger side, there are definitely many more experienced IcMag members, but I hold my smoke for sure. I definitely qualify as a daily smoker. I definitely qualify as a weed head, and I qualify as a connoisseur.

11.Judging from the sample alone do you personally consider this
strain a keeper for long term use. Yes [xxxx] No [ ]

The Panama Red effect:

An uplifting, dreamy, expansive floating sensation, sometimes experienced as a physical euphoria. Produces feelings of warmth and positive energy/thoughts. Creativity and abstract thought are enhanced. I have no experience with this strain in social situations, but I imagine it to be functional, perhaps inducing laughter. In higher doses there is an almost out-of-body effect that could be considered a form of trippyness, a twist on most the classic psychedelic sativa effect. I have no problem reading, and when smoking Panama I tend to be very highly focused on whatever im doing, sometimes completely absorbed in mundane tasks like dishwashing and pulling weeds. Tactile experience is enhanced, along with visual richness and color intensity. Late evening sunset glow quality to the world of Panama. A neat feature of the effect seems to be that my short term memory is not nearly as impaired as it usually is, which is one reason I believe the high could be quite socially functional. As yet, I have not found a 'limit' to Panama, I invariably stop smoking before it stops getting me high.

Conclusion:
Panama is a winner strain, excellent to grow and smoke. This pheno goes above and beyond by being exceptionally beautiful and exotic as a plant and in the jar/bag, because of it's highly unusual pink pistil.
Thank you to the Ace Seed Company, saludos
Thanks for reading!

Its all about multitasking eh hehe ;)
So whats next getting close to chop-chop?

I think the last of the Destroyer crosses, Destroyer x Chocolope #2, is about a week away.

The Haze...is just amazing, if you recall she was flowering for TWO MONTHS already when the others, some of which are long gone, were added to the tent. I know I have probably posted that "she looks like she will..." a bunch of times, but seriously, she might go into june.

Geeez looks amazing! Also no1 would guess by the look its MJ, smell might be different story ehehe

I have taken a couple of buds off here and there. When I did that, I think about a month ago, maybe longer, the uncured sample was already nice and strong. The recent small lower branch I took off is stronger still, and the smell in the jar without curing is somewhere between vanilla beans and fresh cut grass.

R

recent guest

I took down a couple of branches from the haze today, still about 80% of the plant left. I spotted a couple of amber trichomes and so I think I am starting a graduated harvest, most of it is still almost 90% clear 10% cloudy.

The haze is the easiest and most enjoyable plant to trim, and the best yielder. Who saw that coming?

OK!

Here is the Haze, dried shots. I chopped her yesterday, June 1st, making her officially a 24 week haze. Some of the buds had begun to die and crisp before the rest was finished, a function of conditions. Anyway, she smells like vanilla, mangoes, and spicy wood chips! just fantastic bouquet.

Smoke reports will still come after some curing time, the tent now has more oldtimer's haze plants in it, including a clone of this, and five other individuals including a verified purple male to do the seeding!

hi bear,
very nice buds and descriptions, it´s problably a prize for a 24 weeks waiting.
i love your strain selection and i´m planning to run an ace purple haze cycle, they are selected purple old times haze.
So, in the beginning of this diary you said that a great tip for this type of tricky sativa is topping a lot. Do you have any other observation on this phenos that may help in a indoor run? Do you flowered with HPS? Maybe forcing a late 2~3 weeks to flower. I´ve notice that MH can help to reduce tall too. What do yo think about it?
best vibes!

Thanks pedrero! Im actually not sure about the topping with the haze. It will help to a point, but since the buds are not dense nugs, the yield comes from having longer stems with bud all along them. I don't know if I have grown the purple variety or not. Right now the tent has a few small hazes in it, two are exactly like the one in this thread, two are different but since its so hot they do not show purple. They might be, and if they are then the purple is less branchy and these two have tended to make one main stalk.

I do not know your set up height or anything, but I would say to let the plants veg from seed for a few weeks, perhaps using a method like supercropping or topping to control height and stem strength. Then flower for 8-10 weeks in small pots, letting them get root-bound for the main period of stretching. After that, switch to larger pots with good soil and they will focus their energy on producing and maturing flowers and not in the stretching as much.

Last run that I was attentive to in this tent, I used a 1000 watt HPS, and a 600 watt MH, and that ended up being great, I recommend it. The reason I didn't do it again is that I didn't have enough ventilation, it is too hot in my place for that.

Definitely check out the thread, Oldtimer's Haze, by Ace. Dubi and Kaiki are very helpful guys.

Also, for this run, the Haze was by far the heaviest yielder. I did not write down my final weights but I had between two and three ounces from the Destroyer crosses, a little less than two ounces from the Panama, and almost ten ounces, well over a half pound, from the haze. There was so much bud on the haze that I ended up making half of it into butter, and I still had two half-gallon mason jars stuffed full. One has been curing the whole time unopened, one has been curing and being smoked and is almost finished because its my favorite smoke.
