Grapefruit/Mango x Purple Haze by Jojorizo

B

Does anyone remember what the story was regarding what Jojorizo actually used in his super limited release of Grapefruit/Mango x Purple Haze?

I recall there was a lot of controversy at Cannabis World over the strain Jojo was calling Purple Haze.

Hopefully, someone may remember this info from about 10 years ago.

Peace.

Here is what Jojo wrote:

Here is what DutchFlowers wrote,
"Experienced smokers know nothing comes close to the potency of a true Haze. Growers also know this, but long flowering periods, unruly phenotypes, and the infamous 1-in-5-crapshoot chance of finding a special female have held many back. Breeding an indoor-friendly Haze strain that consistently delivers superior potency has been the very focus of DF breeding efforts since its inception. To that end, the team has collected and grown enough clones and crosses to setup a small Haze museum. Synthesizing our best Haze genetics into one line posed a considerable challenge. In early trials, proven clones passed down their potency genes on to the next generations using an unacceptable, unpredictable domino pattern. To develop a superior seed line, males were tested the hard way, growing out their offspring to recognize the best possible pollen source. Winning donors pollinated our choicest females, and their offspring was then heavily selected at the second generation. Recombinant individuals displaying the desired potency, phenotype, flowering and yield traits were identified and inbred into separate lines. Three years after the project begun, the resulting lines were finally blended, giving rise to our Metal Haze, a hybrid that received high praise from skeptic industry testers. Named after the metal-lit room that keeps our Haze clone collection alive, Metal Haze displays the brain-warping quality that fueled the legend. It is a modern, trippy cerebral sativa, with classic psychoactive soar and scant body cues. Connoisseurs report a deadly, creeper with no ceiling, combination of effects. The phenotype is fully suitable for indoor growing, with a branching habit resulting in an abundance of dense, oily, attractive buds. Aromas range from animal sour spice to sweet piney mint, often accompanied by rotten meat undertones. Overindulging the Metal Haze is not recommended for the sativa sensitive or the inexperienced. It is a deceptively smooth smoke that starts out uplifting and super-active -ideal for musicians and creative types- and climbs ever higher in a succession of intense waves, taking perception to uncharted lands. We trust the virtues bred into Metal Haze to earn its place in discriminating gardens, and satisfy demanding sativa aficionados.

Specifications: ~ Flower: 56 - 77 days ~ Yield: 450 - 500 grams/m² ~ Phenotype: Indoor-friendly Indica-sativa ~ Effect: Ultra Strong Sativa ~ (10 seeds)"

I think they were right on the mark. This is one trippy plant. This is a truely sativa high. They were very easy to grow and nothing like the work that goes into a full on Haze. I tried the smoke from a seeded female and it was really potent. DF said there was no body effect but I don't know how they could tell because I didn't know if I had a body. That is just being truthful. It is not pot for smoking and being in public. It is also not a good bedtime smoke. You will not sleep. I made some bubble hash and my friends love it but it is not a great social high either. I didn't want to talk or do anything I can remember. This is very strong pot.

The Candy Haze was very similar I thought. Both have lots of visuals and the freaky stuff. I am a light weight I guess and both of these strains are probably too much for me.

The Purple Haze wasn't nearly as nice looking. Classic haze looks. I forced them to stay short but they were more sparce and lanky. The PH had that classic haze aroma and taste that I really like. It was another really trippy pot. The males and females I used for the seeds were not the typical plants. I chose the shorter denser pheno. Some of the super tall pheno hermied and were culled. What was left was some really nice true haze plants. The seeded females took about 10-12 weeks to finish.

The Grapefruit/Mango is truly a super strain. Mebeanboy did a great job creating this. You will love this smell. The aroma is unique and one of the best I have ever smelled. I had friends describe it as Armani cologne. This is not candied fruit but maybe rotting fruit. Sweet and Sour. A very strong smell. It is also very powerful. It will fix any pain you may have. Some members here have said it is the strongest they have ever tried. It is also a fun high and you can be social if you choose.

The Dawg is special pot. It is one of best smelling pot I have ever smelled. Even better than the G/M. (The Purp I thought was the very best as far as aroma). It smells like a really dank Thai maybe. Breaking up the buds by hand is a real treat. I heard lots about this strain but you will never know the half of it until you try this. I think this is Highways new favorite strain. Many people are declaring this to be their favorite. The high is very much social and fun but very high. Luckily I don't remember anything I may have done when smoking it. This one is especially pretty with a heavy coating of trichomes. The bubble hash is excellent.

I haven't tested any of these crosses yet. The parents were very good quality plants and all the crosses should turn out to be way above average. Germination tests were excellent. Have some fun and good luck.

Big up for digging that bit of Jojo history up neongreen. :thank you:

IIRC, there was come controversy about Jojo calling the haze in this cross, "Purple Haze".

Could it be that he found a pheno in Dutch Flowers Metal Haze or Candy Haze that turned purple and decided to give it the Purple Haze name as a result? I'm not even sure if there was actually a cannabis strain named Purple Haze. :dunno:

It does sound like he used a purple pheno of Metal Haze or Candy Haze. I'm not really sure TBH - it is a bit unclear regarding exactly what he used.

But, after thinking about it a little more, I think he must have had a cut called Purple Haze unrelated to any of the DF strains. What makes me think this is the crosses he released:

Grapefruit/Mango x Candy Haze
Grapefruit/Mango x Purple Haze
Purple Candy Haze

... although there is still an element of doubt in my mind saying that Purple Haze might be Metal Haze. He mentions it in his description, but not in the namings of the crosses. Confusing!

I guess we'll have to be happy to remain confused by this. I'm sure his PH must have been very high quality in order for Jojo to make and release a cross containing those genetics.

As long as the remaining 7 seeds I have germinate, we shall see what is locked in this DNA. :)

It's good to know you have a wealth of Jojo related knowledge neongreen. Keep it alive. :ying:

Not sure I'd call what I have saved a "wealth of info", but I was a big Jojo fan, and saved any info related to the strains of his which I collected or was interested in. Please do keep us updated as to what you find in those 7 time-capsules - I have another 10 if your 7 turn out promising :)

hey neon great info! this sounds like an interesting strain. matt riot threw up a few jojo packs on his site, pricey tho . im pissed i cant get em!

When Jojo put the Blowfish S1s up for auction I'm pretty sure they went for a hefty price ($300-600), so that's no surprise. A few months later the 3LB released Blowfish F2s for around $30 Instant Purchase. Gutted I missed out on those, but I made the choice to leave Cannabis World and a few months after that the forum went down/SHTF.

Well, back on May 27th I soaked 2 of these seeds to see if they might be viable.
Soaked for 24 hours then into a moist paper towel. A week later and no sign of life, so I pinched them to open them up enough to let water in. I'd all but forgotten about them until just now and look what I found. :dance013:

I got it into a jiffy7 immediately. The apical root tip has browned a bit but there's another small offshoot growing from the side of the main root, so it still has a good chance of surviving.

Thanks for the inspiration to get some of these up and growing fellas.

Good luck is right!

I found an informative quote by jojorizo about this strain (cached from Cannabis-World dot org) :

Hey Kalimister,
The Purple Haze I am using is not the phoney baloney from Mr Chronic or ADutchie. The one I am using I received from a guy that brought them back from Europe where he said he got them from Nevil direct many years ago. I have had this one pack for a couple years. He had them stored for years. I recieived alot of other very rare strains at the same time from the same source. Everything I have tried so far makes me believe he was telling me the truth. By the way, I still have some Yellow Cab from the Grey Area, some original Pancake, original Jack's Cleaner, original Big Sur Holy Weed and others I can't remember right now. I have kept them stored nicely and got 100% germination from all the strains I cracked including the Purple Haze. If you recall the Mr Chronic strain it was a wide leaf Beri Beri cross I think. It looked nothing like Haze. Take a look at my Purple Haze. Now that is a real Haze. I hope this helps to clarify for everyone. I'll try to keep pictures posted.
I hope to breed each of those 4 strains that I started with with each of the 4 strains. Because of promises I made the Candy Haze will not be offered except as a cross even though I will make some f2s. I have not contacted mebeanboy yet but I will not offer his Grapefruit Mango as an f2 without his consent. Although I have not tested, or even made these yet, I am sure there will be some top quality crosses ready in a few months. We will all be having a very Hazy winter.

jojorizo

That might not be as crystal clear an explanation as we hoped for, but if jojorizo was happy with the source, so am I.

Here's the sprout as of today... :woohoo:

I flipped lights to flower on July 1st.

She showed me what's under her skirt last week.

She's all girl. :woohoo: :dance013:

I aggressively trimmed her lower growth & this is how she looks today.

Looking forward to see how she progresses.....makes me miss the old Cannabis World terribly. Tried a few of Jojo's creations back then, and his gear was great.

Bob Green

You guys know much about his Mendo Purps?

I have a pack of Medo Purps from old Reeferman stock. When I asked Reef how he made it he answered back...

The purps on that initial release were from 2 sources Jojo rizo and a friend of mine in Sanfran I used Jo'jo's IBL males and the SF cutting

Jojo keeps surprising me whenever I find out about more & more of the contributions he's made to the current spectrum of top shelf strains.

Melty, what jojo strains have you grown out?

Bob Green, I don't know anything about Mendo Purps but feel free to enlighten me. :)
