Looking to buy more led's but no sure if I should go with the all white or more r/w from area 51. I am looking at the sg190 and sg150.....any thoughts how many, what color? I need to cover 6 plants in a 9'5' tent.

How do you get on growing with LEDs ? What the difference in them and hps, I often wondered, it's hard to make a judgement just by reading up. I prefer to hear it from people who use them.:tiphat:

I am just starting with the led's. I do know they prod less heat. I have a small tent 4'2' and I have a Inda-grow 420, which is probably too much, but it gives off a small amount of heat as compared to even a 400 HID. I have read that the HID's give off more in heat than anything else.

I am also tired of my electric bill being so high. I am hoping switching will decrease that.

It's a bizarre question, no doubt asked due to all the RB led panels sold for mj. Well not really. It is resellers pushing them on unaware mj growers who are carpetbaggers

And of course the consumer has to take the blame for not educating themselves before purchasing leds, or any grow light

COBs are the new tech. DIYers are getting damned good results using only 3000K COBs, but I suspect a mix of some ~ 4500k COBs will benefit their veg stage

I just finished my first grow using a BML SPYDR 600 (thread in my sig)

It is predominantly white with a few 450 blue and a few 625 red monochromes

While I share your belief in white cobs, I disagree with your suggestion of adding 4500K.

A HPS lamp measures arond 2200 - 2500K. Using cob's that closely approximate that seems the way to go.*

*Disclaimer: LOL! What do I know? I'm in the same boat as the rest of you and am still learning.

The 4500 is for the veg stage. The 3000K for flowering. Both can be combined during flower, or not

Pet Flora, Tx for the response. Yes marketing drove me to question the validity of the all white....but the nagging question I had was the sun sure seems white, and there is no red lens changing it's wavelength, AND the outdoor grows I have seen sure produce great results. So I decided to go with a mix of both all white and red and white through Area 51.

The owner is easy to work with, responsive to my e-mails, and simply supplies info without trying to sway your opinion.

I will need to wait for my next grow to go all LED. I have the raptor hooked up now, and another HID with some LED's. I am going to ditch one of the HID's and put in 2 of the Area 51's. I just don't want to mess with the raptor now as they have about a month left.

Psyco g, I am not 100% correct, but I think they are the led's that have a built in reflector.... the users probably can explain the technical aspects of them.

Iffy, I split them. Half white, half all r/w.

Iffy, I didn't notice this before "No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced." That is hilarious! "electrons terribly inconvenienced"

I'm well aware of the color temps required for the various stages.

Im confused

You say hps (which is only used for flower) is 2200-2500, but you disagree with adding white.

You need ~ 20% white (CW or ~ 5000k) for veg and ~ 10% for flower is beneficial

I have been using the Area 51 XGS-190 light for the past month or so. It is a powerful light source, makes little noise, and does its job well. The information on their website is right on point as well. It covers a 2.5 x 2.5 ft area very well. My tent is 39'' x 39''. Outside of that area not as much. It depends how high you have it from the canopy.

The difference between the temperature outside the tent and inside with the light is 3-4 degrees F.

On the A51 website they used to have a graph of the spectral analysis of the Cree XTE Warm White 3750k LEDs they use on the light. It is no longer up there, but I remember seeing it when it was there and it's awesome. It's got everything in large quantities.

I have no complaints. It's worth every penny. I have yet to flower anything with it, but I feel it will do a good job. Overall great unit.

According to A51's owner, the RW150 will yield and perform a little better than the XGS190, for less watts.
