Water Extracted Vs. Dry Sieve

Do you use cellophane, amd if so, where do you get it?

I have used the wrapper from those big muffins like you get at the gas station. I have thought about turkey bags since they are food-grade. I also thought about the cellophane you get from the florist, but that shit contains who knows what. It probably comes from China.

Shoe hash is very good! Smoking some right now, Bubba Kush.

organic cellophane ,i got it from the grow shop ,,when i run out i just used ciggarette packet wrapper ,was just as good ,only did 3-4 gram at a time

mylar bags for pressing, Egay has um , Put your kief in the bag seal tight make sure kief is not to thick maybe 1/4 inch at most,
wrap the bag in a wet newspaper , and then heat with an iron on warm,
Wrapping the bag in wet newspaper will prevent iron from burning mylar

if it killer kief you wont need an iron to press it

I have never had the same drop of in taste with water hash as a lot of people say they have. I tend to find that properly made water hash makes it easily discernible what strain the hash came from. I don't seem to be able to make the same distinctions with dry sieve, it all kind of tastes rather similar to me. Maybe it is because I just have never made my own dry sieve, I have relied on other making it, and they may simply just not make it that well and therefore it has lost its flavor.

I def prefer nice pure dry sift

the kind you get when manicuring your buds over a screen(no shaking involved) its always nice and full melt and the flavor is better then ice hash ime

Good point! A harvest box with a mesh tray insert is handy for that purpose and easy to make out of scraps of wood and a cheap mirror tile.

This one has about $2.00 worth of liquidation price lumber in it and $6.50 worth of stainless mesh from Howard wire. I forgot what the mirror tile costs, but it was cheeeep.

I get a lot of trim, so I make all three-- When I first started with Bubble, I didn't care much for the taste...then I made a batch here at my house, and used water from my de-chlorination/sediment filter, and realized that the water I was using straight from the hose bib was the culprit--
I"m sure most of you already realize this...but since I had to find out the hard way, I figured I would put it out here...use good water-- :tiphat:

i prefeer drysieve to water extracted hash any day. so much more terpenes..

but for a hash making noob it can be easy to fail drysieveing, getting small harvests etc and i would recomend them to use ice extraction for ease.

drysieving takes some technique to get good results with while ice hash is just a "follow instruction" thing..

my best tip for any-one wanting to make nice drysieve is to freeze the material properly, and refreeze just after sieving it for seconds. continuing to drysieve and freeze the material allways in short few second bursts. waiting 3-4 hours inbetween sieving sessions is good, but depends on freezers. if ur freezer can NOT make ice cubes in 2 hours, then chances are the weed will not be properly frozen thru either - so i recomend up to 12 hour freezing time, specially if ur freezer is full of stuff and/or is in-efficient.

i use oak sticks to hit the weed/material i drysieve a few times.

also i dont use tradicional screens, i use a ice hash bag DRY, that i fill with the material and close it and freeze it like that. after the freezer i put the bag (fast!) with the material on top of a metacrylate sheet i got on top of a table, i hit the bag 2-3 times like if its a snare drum. literally the resin will just fly thru the screen when the bag gets hit. after this i shake the bag a few times and re-freeze it.

even if in the first sieving session the yield might be small - the 2nd session will shake out ALL the loose heads still inside the material.

also since i hit the material a few times before sieving it, even buds will break up and let loose the trichs inside the nugs.

i usually smoke the first sieve as is, but i mix all the later runs.

i stop IF i see green bits like this;

but i prefeer if its like this;

this one even got slightly `pink

one more...

should add i do have screens ive made. i prefeer 2 by 2 foot frames to get some space for the material. also i like to have tall edges of about 5-7cm to avoid to get the material to jump out of the screen. the worst screen i made is a 70u screen since it frankly doesnt let thru any mature gland heads. now i use 160 -180u screen but long time i go i liked 110u also..

also important to add that drysieved material makes still excellent OIL, BHO etc. so dont throw it!

you can fine tune your screen's to trich size! Sativas have longer trichs with smaller heads
indica's tend to be short and stout large heads , hybrids vari ,
indoor grown seem to have more trich density but smaller size trichs
outdoor trichs are much larger but not as dense

Stainless steel screens work best , you can find them on Ebay

Was wondering what type of screen I should use to do the first run to get kief before I clean it up in finer micron screens ?

Also what technique do you use to remove the trichs from the broken up buds ( im using hand cut/ hand ground buds not leaf )

Do you kinda bounce the screen like your panning dirt , or do you rub the bud material along the screen with a card ?

Sorry for asking dumb questions but ive been doing it a different much less efficient way then you all and the "givens" of the technique are not given for me.

Thanks and cheers

I prefer about 190micron for first screen, but 160 works also

Make sure your material is bone dry before sieving

I prefer a combo of ,wax on, wax off type motion, then gently tapping the screen, carding is a way to clean up green matter in your sift, try to not allow the green in from the start.

Nice thread and perfect timing.
I´ve bought myself a washing machine&bags and after spending my whole life smoking dry sieve fresh from Morocco i was very surprised with the quality of my first efforts on the bubbler. I won´t post pics because it was my first attempt and i want to do better.
But coming on topic, i´m thinking a first 1min dry sieve on 45microns screen and then, yes, the bubblator.
That way i intend to have the best of the two worlds. Top quality dry sieve without compromising the quality of the bubble hash. What do you guys think of my plan?

What surprised me the most on the bubble run, was the increase on the harvest.
In the Riff it was always under 2% of the vegetable material, on my first attempt i went over the 4% and under the scope i couldn´t find anything but trics.
