Shatter and Wax, the differences and how-to's?

Hey Big Johnny, are you running a CLS by any chance? If so, you could probably convert it to a little still. In fact, I kind of remember GW posting something about doing just that...

(goes to SPR.com)

ahh yes, here it is:
http://skunkpharmresearch.com/enabler-alcohol-fractionating-still/

Also, they make some pretty clever little home stills. They probably don't ship to Canada, but if they do, you can find some pretty nice ones for around 4-500. Sounds like a lot, but if you're paying that kind of money for everclear, it'll be worth it.

I like this one 'cause it's shiny:

that thing looks like your halfway home to a closed loop extractor!

More a less a good solution if you just so happen to be running an mkIII already.

Although building the refluxing still first, you'd only be a small
Shopping list away from the mkIII

Shatter is a winterized extract and the alcohol that is to be purged is not volatile enough to cause much bubbles while evaporating with or without a vacuum.
Wax is an extract that has not been winterized and has been purged under high vacuum and solidified while the butane bubbles are escaping.

Shatter is not necessarily winterized. Same goes for wax, you can very well have non winterized shatter and winterized wax. It all depends on your post extraction tech.

Well I just wanted to give a simplistic answer. In general it is true. If you don't winterize and make it into a shatter it will be a lot less stable (melt/become gooey much easier).
If you winterize and attempt to mimic a wax by getting a bubbly structure it will be more crispy as compared to a creamy consistency.

Agreed.. When working with older stuff, sometimes you have no control over the end product at all. It will be dark and sappy regardless

I've been getting a lot of our info from SP.

We've been having some troubles during the production process.... I'm actually just about to make a thread with some pics.

my personal dispensary might start carrying shatter. Not sure if I'd buy it, rather have regular hash or buds but I know about you dabbers

I'm still a bit on the fence about it, mostly because my city is full of retards who constantly believe they have the best shit around and that nothing compares (believe me quite the opposite is true)

But a gram of good shatter will last me about a week and I'm a very heavy smoker..... basically first thing I do when I wake up is smoke copious amounts of pot, and continue to do so until I go to bed.

A buddy on another thread actually mentioned some kind of stove fuel that is Etoh with 10% IPA sold in Canada, called Bio-Flame.
