Will UV-C light work for killing Powdery Mildew?

Will UV-C light work for killing Powdery Mildew?

I believe the science works but has anyone tried it?

There are a few different UV-C products out there but most are for flat surfaces and keyboards like the Verilux CleanWave. Or ones you plug into the wall to sanitize the air like the Germguardian.

There is only one product i can find that would be suitable for plants and its the UV Cleanlight Hobby Unit. Made by the Dutch, runs on 220v and you wave it over the plant for no more than 2-5 seconds. All of these products are sold on amazon.

Has anyone had any success using UV to kill PM?
Thanks. :tiphat:

ps i hate PM

UVC is dangerous...the most dangerous type of UV so please don't play with it.. I run LEDs so I just might happen to know a thing or three about wave lengths since I also make my own HML (home made light/s)

UVA is the mildest form and UVB will give you 'sunburn'.....bad.....too much UVC will give you cancer and kill every living thing imaginable...too much that is.

If you plan on using it,,,please please please read about it and educate yourself before trying it....There are a lot of alternative methods out there to successfully combat PM...try those first..

Good Luck

Yes, UV-C will kill powdery mildew, but not a heavy infestation. There is a tool called the CleanLight that, when used properly, will prevent p.m.. By scanning the plants every day, powdery mildew cannot spread. The light works by breaking the DNA bonds in mildews, molds, viruses and bacteria. It does not enter the plant. I use one and it works. Check it out! BTW, for a heavily infested plant, destruction is recommended.

ive actually thought of using a uvc on a light mover on a timer. set to operate when im not in the room. how close does it need to be to the leaf surface to be effective? ive also wondered if this could be somehow used in a rez. periodically turning on under the lid while a recirculating pump mves the water so that there is adequate contact with more of the water.
thanks for responding with your experience!

Normally, you would scan about 6-8 cm from the plants. CleanLight makes lights that operate from light movers, called the Lazy Man :). I'm not sure you need to irradiate the water. Seems like a good idea.

clean light have the new fan thing, so the uvc is enclosed. saw it at an expo, was around 350E.
clean light will work well, just don't look at it.

Yes ..... they work great. I know someone that has one. Wear glasses it'll hurt your eyes.

I've tried baking soda, Serenade and SNS 244. Got it down to a mild case. I've also lowered humidity, cranked up air exchange, bleached all my grow room walls (3 times) and change my clothes before entering my grow room. I still have to get hepa filters for my passive intake.

I'm on a budget, so I just bought the Verilux CleanWave VH03WW4 UV-C Sanitizing Travel Wand off Amazon for $29. I'll get it tomorrow. (10-2) I am so close to harvest and I don't want to destroy my plant. I'm a noob and am so proud of my first grow. Praying this small unit will do the trick. Will let you know.

The UV may work ..but its guaranteed to do more damage to you than any mold spores that may be active in your grow space ...only if you want to look like 'Bubbles' on trailer park boys' ...lol

Stick to Neem Oil...a teaspoon to a pint spray bottle fill with warm water shake and spray 2 x times per day ...not so close to harvest as Neem is an acquired taste ..lol

UVB works just as well, the reason Cleanlight uses UVC is because the use of UVB on the workfloor is forbidden by labourlaws.

sign'd, I want to know if this thing works.
I have heard of people who battled pm for years change to th new 315 ceraimcs and their problem is gone. Increased UV light seems to keep things at bay.
