C4 puts down mulch (grass, hay) to retain moisture and he also uses living mulch. Sort of a companion planting that benefits the herb.

I'm sure he'll jump in and tell you the details but that's the gist of the mulch, both living and dried.

Seaf0ur sits around in a loin cloth, chanting mantras, being one with mother earth.
Even his plants grow in harmony with other plants to stimulate the forces of mother Gia upon his soil.

Short story - spends a lot of time in the realm of recycled organic living soil threads.

PS: Seaf0ur is the actual inventor of the chia pet.
He retired after the amazing success of the President Obama Chia Head.
It's a secret, don't tell anyone.

ahhh... my mulch... it is a different path for me than most... for the most part, its designed to keep my insects happy. although clover fixes nitrogen from the air into the soil, it also has a similar rhizosphere akin to cannabis, ie: same types of root exudes attracting a similar ratio of bacteria:fungi as the cannabis itself.... strengthening the micro beasts... and giving them more active area. In addition, I also release beasts from time to time...

I'm going for the whole living soil approach.... when I move mulch I see a rather wide variety of creatures... I also bring decayed leaf material from outdoors to indoors to introduce new arthropods from time to time.
I culture fungi, and other fun stuff, like teas of sprouted seed... fermentations... lacto cultures.. hell, i even tried a nematode farm, until my rove beetles suffered... then I quit with the nematodes... and built a temporary beetle habitat...

2014_05_09_1_958729549c01a7486143_1.jpg

Thats just my thing. Anything growing in the pots thats not directly helpful will be chopped and dropped in place to decompose whenever my whimsical nature decides. The rocks are so beetles have a nice place to hide on these hot dry days...

I'm a no bottles, no ph, no ec, no ppm, long haired dirtfoot hippie who dont time or measure anything anymore.... I keeps it simple, and old school.

EDIT: forgot the what... micro clover, dutch white clover, chia, marigolds, barley grass and alfalfa all grow..... the barley and alfalfa are from the dried mulch having occasional seeds... I used to use my leftover SST barley seeds for mulch, but that shit gets out of control.... I threw down some spearmint seeds as well, but haven't seen any sprout

And yeah... thats round 30,000 insects released in my closet 3 feet from my headboard... LOL... now they are full breeding colonies of predators.

Seaf0ur's "style" is what most organic growers would refer to as TLO "True Living Organics"; I also use the same method. While it may produce some of the best, healthiest marijuana money can buy, I am more about the sustainability of it all. Looking toward the future, I don't believe bottles will/should play any part of the future if the world wants to turn itself around and not destroy everything that was given to us. The whole idea of this style is to get down to mother nature's roots (pun intended). We even try to mimic the natural watering system by utilizing underground reservoirs versus hand watering. For example, my Halo2x rooting down into some dirty bathtub water and loving it. These roots have been submerged in water 24/7 for weeks now and are only getting bigger.

Just trying to use a mainstream term. 'Tis a good term used by false prophets. Why do rainbows always have to be associated with gay people?

C4 - You got the books before there was GMO plants and chemical fertilizers. That's definitely old school.

Mr Tea - I'm still hand watering but since moving to living organic soil with the micro-herd I've changed it up. I still have those black plastic pots sitting in saucers. I put water in the saucers to start with and let the soil suck it up. Once I see that the saucer water isn't being consumed as rapidly at first I then water from the top. With the micro-herd my goal is not to let the soil dry out too much nor get it too wet. A while back I was reading about soil tithe and for the best tithe it should be 25% air and 25% water in your soil. So that's what I'm trying to accomplish. This is working for me.

So Pak, from my understanding you water from the top and bottom. Once you allow your pots to wick up water from your dishes and you then water from the top, do you have any runoff?

Yep, I start with wick from the bottom. This is usually filling the dishes up a couple of times before the wick action starts slowing down. I then use a watering can with the 'spray' spout that I water from the top.

If I do end up with water runoff I pour it out of the dishes (saucers). I don't let standing water sit in my saucers.

Since I'm working with the micro-herd I want the soil to have moisture throughout and not let areas get too dry. If there is no moisture for the micro-herd then they either go dormant or die. I want those little critters working 24/7 feeding my plants.

Spend some time, look back 20 or so pages, get more familiar with what's growing on here.
If Khalisi works out, you may just be testing another future release.

We pride ourselves in being very respectful to all whom follow along here.
We are not just growers/breeders, we're teachers and mentors.
We love to share first hand knowledge, so if you need help, someone can guide you, respectfully.
Welcome to the minions.

Thanks for the welcome SG, And yes I have been trying to catch up, light reading but very informational for sure. Respect is the word, one that I live by.

Heres alittle back ground on my self: Stay at home father "Mr. MOM, I am legal as a beagle and stay that way, I dont pretend to know it all, because I dont but would like to know enough. I tend to stick with organic soil, but I do like to try new things in that realm maybe even beyond.
Outside inside I like both each has its points, I have been working on getting it so I can have something in both bloom and veg, been sweet talkin the "boss" for more room. My "stable" isnt exotic but its mine, always looking out for those gems. This season I am looking for a stud for my ladies, especially my White Rhino.
Well thats enough of my crap..lol, sorry for the run on sentences. And again thanks, Hick

A new hobby will begin soon. Going to start doing a bunch of microbrew ACT's with some non traditional tea ingredients for 1) experimentation, 2)something unique to my personal grow and 3) shits and gigs. Got the slides for $4 and the microscope for free.
