240v inline timer?

Hey I am building a new room and have ran a dedicated 240v 40a dual pull breaker for the lights.

I want to wire up a 4 outlet light controller but am unsure where to find a inline timer to control the outlets.

Or would like advise and components needed to wire a 240v light controller that activates off a single 120v 24hr mechanical timer.

Do these light controllers have a relay that controls the timer via a trigger switch?

Any tips or information will be great and thanks plus rep in advance!

So if you have your own controller already just use low power timer as trigger(controller are just a bunch of relay activated by a signal timer easy and cheap to built)

OBJ is on the right track, but you need to make sure that you break the current protection down to the level of the lightest-rated component in the circuit. For instance, if you are using 15 amp receptacles, then they need to be protected with a 15 amp fuse or breaker.

If you want to switch all of the lights at the same time, you can either use a power relay like OBJ shows, a trigger cable, and a digital timer or you can use a heavy-duty mechanical timer like an Intermatic T-104. The digital timers have the advantage of being very accurate and can frequently be battery-backed so that you don't lose your settings during power failures.

You could run your 40a feed through the timer or power relay and then into a small sub-panel. The sub-panel power would be switched on/off with the relay/timer and would give you the ability to break out several smaller circuits with the appropriate protection to keep from immolating your gear.

This the light controller i built for my room(each realy control 4x600w.Hps and the lowest one control 4 x 400w.Mh)

The tutorial that I normally recommend from Greentrees Hydro is offline, but the following is the best deal outside of eBay that I know of for 40a power relays. This can be controlled with any electronic timer (I've had good luck with the GE SunSmart line from Home Depot and they are battery-backed), but as I mentioned above, there needs to be some further current protection to get your 40a circuit down to levels that work with lighter-rated components. Receptacles, plugs, and cords that are rated for 40a are extremely expensive.
