Using olive oil when trimming

I was told by one of the trimmers I hired that it is safe to use little olive oil on his fingers when he trims. So resin doesn't stick.
How true is it and why not if it's a no no
Thanks.

It won't damage the trichomes?
I would think if something that fat can smuge trichs. But I really know nothing :)

Thank you

no have him wear gloves... and use rubbing alcohol on the scissors

people that use oil are dumb, we want to strip the sticky resins not lubricate our fingers and scissors

skip to 47:00 of this speakers panel for an example of why we don't want use olive oil... other than just getting olive oil all over your buds... YUK [YOUTUBEIF]51wPYZv4Hhc[/YOUTUBEIF]

I can be an ass and yell at them and tell them to oil their asswholes instead... this is not the point.
They are wearing gloves but I still wanted to know if there is a valid, botanical reason for it or against it.

I want to know if the oil do any damage to the buds. If someone who is allergic would be a real concern.. If there are other, real and serious concerns or problems that may occur if oil is used on the buds.

This is what I would like to know.

the video I linked to, gives an example at 47:00 where trimmers were putting the scissors in olive oil to keep them from getting sticky... which fostered and grew harmful bacteria that was then spread to and contaminated the whole crop.

obviously since resin heads are oils we don't want them to come into contact with any other oils or non polar solvents, which is why we don't spray any pesticides containing oils or soaps once into flower... because the oils and soaps will contaminate the flavors of the resin. So beyond the health risks that one may be spreading to patients... if quality is any kind of concern then you don't want to be contaminating the buds with any type of oils.

I suggested cleaning fingers and scissors with rubbing alcohol... and its not about being an asshole it's about safety precautions, better business practices and putting an end to myths, wives tales and commonly practiced mistakes... many many people do in fact use olive or vegetable oil Ive seen it plenty of times, that still doesn't make it the right way or even ok/safe to do so. :tiphat:

Back in the day the aardvark trimmer was supplied with olive oil for cleaning but it ruined bud and is just as hard as oil to remove. Ethanol is much better.

you making salads or trimming buds? imo, olive oil can absorb some of the trichs (like an iso extraction), leave an olive oil reside on the manicured buds, leave a hint of a tsaste of olive oil when smelling/smoking, ect.

bottom line, leave the olive oil on the dinner table and not on the trimming table.

post #5 seems harsh and uncalled for on so many levels and makes the poster seem like a real ass! But if the thread starter doesn't care why should I? Maybe I am missing something. Anyway, yeah I would not use it just in case. But it is an intriguing idea, it would be nice to have a way to prevent your scissors from gumming up constantly! Stickless scissors if you will. And it would be nice to not have all that goo go to waste on the gloves I use. But pipe dreams I am afraid! ;)

have twice the necessary amount of scissors... and a cup of 99% iso... keep rotating the scissors through the alcohol, later the the alcohol can be evaporated and oil can be collected (not super high quality but usable) and the gloves can be put in the freezer and the resins will break and fall off the gloves and can be collected

This dude Aloe is the cleanup man for the russian mafia.
He goes in to take care of the former growers and gets the job done!
Kinda like the Mario Brothers from Brickleberry where they use the testosterone from the dogs testicles to grow the weed overnight to keep the mafia from stabbing them in the anus.

I'm just saying if someone is worried about waste... I have never done it personally, but scissor hash scraped off the blades from good weed is a pretty nice harvest time treat

It seems silly to put oil on the hands before trimming. I do use vegetable oil to clean my sticky hands when I'm done, though. It's a lot easier and more efficient than using isopropyl alcohol, which I would rather save for my QWISO extractions anyway.

Gloves are still the best, but sometimes I'm in too much of a hurry to even put gloves on.
