Is Serious Seeds Kali Mist still good?

Wow can't believe there is so much controversy over such a great strain. Simon I'll do a grow report for my summer grow in a few months. Although I think I'm just gonna grab a pack of non-fem seeds for fair comparison. I've been touting and recommending this strain since 08, so I'm curious if these is just all noise or if something changed. I honestly feel like even when I first tried KM in 08 this argument was still going on.

Simon, I was discussing my favorite pheno with someone, and wondering if you notice a lemon-grass pheno with extra long and thin leaves? I think I've read Claude mention that there shouldn't be a lemony pheno and it should be spicy and peppery, which all other phenos have been.

I'm all about the pheno that smells like perfumey soap in flower then cures to smoke like nag champa incense. People walk into the room after burning some and smells nothing like canna and exactly like nag champa.

About 12 years ago I made an illegal purchase for MJ seeds thur the mail. Those seeds I bought were for Kali Mist 12seed Regular, and so began my love affair for growing my own bud! And still today it is the best Sativa i every smoked.

have you grown any since? and if so were they the same?

I've grown kali mist out a few times, first time was bk in 96-97 then again in 2004 and 2010 and each time they've been pretty much identical, some slight variations in each pack but each time the flavor, scent and high have been pretty much the same.I've also grown out ak47,chronic and white russian and they've all been pretty much as described,i've even used chronic and kali mist in a few hybrids i've crossed myself.

Answer to Mustafunk, post #99.
In my answers I'll try to answer as accurate as I can without taking so much space. If you or anyone else think I try to not answer certain things then post it again, it is not my intention to skip things. When responding I try to give multiple answers at once, because I cannot answer all the time. The reason is like you wrote; we are busy and cannot read and answer all threads all the time, our priority is reading email and helping people who mail to us directly. This is after all a platform for experiences and opinions of growers.

This thread is about Kali Mist, so if people write about their positive experiences and post pics which are generally great, then I am happy and proud to see this. What is wrong with that?

We take pride in the fact that we care about our customers, and there are many how can testify to that. Why you think we do not care is a mystery to me. We are used to give free seeds if people have a bad experience somehow, in order to give them a good result. It is my philosophy that growers should have a good experience when buying Serious Seeds. Thats why we have the guarantee on our seeds. And also give seeds to people who write a grow journal on a forum. What is wrong with that? It is to let the seeds and the resulting plants talk for themselves. I fail to see why you are against this.

Yes, I was asking you from where you had your info, because you had some names right but the total was nonsense. So I gave my side of the story, how Tony from Sagarmatha convinced me to start our first seed company which ended soon.

The fact that we nowadays base our work on other peoples efforts in the past is like an open door. We all do, everybody does. It was Darwin who already said that he was merely standing on the shoulders of giants with his work. And this continues and goes on. That is how culture or science for that matter work. You are wrong however if you name Shantibaba as a predecessor of my work; Shantibaba started his work after me.

It is like you say; we like the seeds and the plants to speak for themselves. But sometimes people have bad experiences, and we like to help them out. With advise or with free seeds. What is wrong with that? This is still the approach of letting the seeds speak for themselves, which you say you like.

The fact that Kali Mist beat Super Lemon Haze was mentioned by me because this was questioned in this thread, read it back.

We have always tried to be honest in our descriptions of our plants and their pedigree. So you can read that Chronic is based on Northern Lights for example. Bubble Gum was derived from plants already bred in the USA, all of this is no secret, it is to be found on our site, and elsewhere. That I have changed the genetic make up of plants at certain points is also written about. No mysterious stuff, we explain it. But if we didn't change the genetic make up we say this also.

But if you state that Kali Mist is a Skunk / Haze hybrid because Tony from Sagarmatha said this, then I have to say; you have the freedom to choose who you believe. Me, or someone who had a failed business attempt with me and never was a breeder or a grower at all in those days. May be this has changed since, could be, but the question remains how Tony should know what is in my genetics? He was never in my lab.

And yes, to me it is fine if others use Serious Seeds' genetics to create something else. I have no problem with that and even like it when they mention this in the description. Like we do also. But it is of course a total other matter, if people start to sell seeds under the exact same name. It is weird that you not seem to understand the difference. It would be very chaotic if all those new seed companies start selling the same names like for example AK-47. This would create absolute chaos and uncertainty if all companies sell seeds under the same names.

I think that much of the differences being discussed in this and other threads comes from the fact that other "seed companies" sold AK-47 of different quality, but under the same name. We know that some even copied our packaging! Hence we fight against the usage of our original names. It is in the interest of everyone to do so. Those "companies" are really only interested in making money over the backs of growers and our good name, smearing that good name in the process.

Unchanged AK-47 being entered in the indica category was explained several times. The year before I did this there was weed entered in the sativa category at the Can. Cup which was clearly more indica, and vice versa. That was the reason to do this. A reaction to that practice. Not because the plant had become more indica. That is simply how it is, and why would I have a reason to lie? I cannot make it more then it is.

As you might know AK-47 was named as such because even in its early days people dropped off their barstools in coffee shops in A'dam. Back then it already was a mostly sativa with an indica stone creeping up on you after the initial sativa high. The same effect you describe that AK-47 has now, so you proof yourself that that hasn't changed, thank you. And hence the name, a peaceful way of bringing people down; our AK-47. Many years ago I already designed a t-shirt with a man lying smiling on the floor 'Another AK-47 victim' as text. But I felt it was unethical to do this, with so many people killed by the real AK-47 gun. We never sold that T-shirt.

Serious Seeds is not really a booming business with a lot of merchandise like T-shirts etc, as you describe us. This is because we put all of our efforts in producing first class seeds, and helping out customers. Not in marketing. Failed batches of seeds will never be sold, I prefer to sell none in stead. And so then we are out of stock. And sometimes we try to proof the quality of our seeds by giving free seeds to people who make a grow report for all to see. You have a lot of criticism about this, but isn't the growing of the seeds the proof of the pudding? Why are you against that practice? That is after all what people want to know; that the seeds are still good.

Hy Simon

You and people like Shantibaba (and maybe more breeders) do an excellent job in stating openly the stories of genetical history as you just did here. Very valuable information for many.

But I want to use this occasion to express mine and many other peoples frustration about you breeders failing to adress the whole issue about strains loosing their stability and relieability that these strains used to have in the old days. And I mean all of you breeders. Do you think people just lie when they say that in the old days you bought 10 ak47 seeds and all of them (the female) where very uniform and resistant big yielders (1g/W+). These days its hard to get one out of 10 ak47 that meets the old ones class. Not possible anymore with Ak47 from your seed bank and not with Medicine man from MNS just to name a few. Many of us growers are experienced and dont make up these facts. Its very frustrating that all of you breeders refuse to adress this issue properly.:hide:

I have no comment on if the strain is the same as in the past. My comment is that this strain is boring, not tasty, and played out. It feels like 80s/90s bud. blah. I popped some seeds that I got 3 or 4 years ago. it wasnt bad, just not current. all these dutch breeders need to get with the program, new tastes etc.

Kali Mist is the best Sativa Dom plant I have grown or smoked, do please tell us all what in your opinion is better ?

I have grown many different Sativas outdoors here in Spain over the last 7 years here, in different locations, Kali Mist has consistently been my best plant, to the extent that next year I am not going to seriously grow anything else Sativa wise.

i think most people haven't tried kali mist but many have tried ak and that is why they are using it as a benchmark for the quality of serious seeds as a whole, considering ak47 is their flagship strain...

i was impressed with the yeild and vigor of my ak47 i bought 2 years ago, but i couldn't stand the flavor and they took 10 or 11 weeks to ripen...after that i decided against trying white russian cause it's half ak, and probably has some of that nasty sandlewood/rotting fruit taste that ak has... kali mist takes even longer and i have heard a lot of mixed stuff about the bubblegum, so i basically wrote off the company at that point, and i'm really not sure i like that they made new strains and bought up another companies strains as well...if they can't get 5 strains right how are they gonna do ten?

meh, if you want a nice sativa that wont take 3 months to bud give c99 a shot, it's lovely.

Dr greenthumb has the pineapple pheno selfed to itself. Its expensive though.

I bought Kali Mist fem seeds and regular seeds from late 2013. I've done indoor and outdoor grows with each batch and both grew the same stable phenos with wispy buds, lanky branching and a mellow perfumed incense spice aroma.

I grew them after a bunch of long discussions with a grow buddy, originally from India, living in California. He said that of all the strains he'd grown the absolute best Sativa he'd ever tried was Kali Mist. He was right.

The high is emotionally relaxing, mentally focusing and mood elevating.
:yeahthats: If this is the high you want then Kali Mist is THE strain you want.

I have a 5 stash jars I use to keep full with strains I had grown. I was choosing the Kali Mist stash so much more frequently than any other strain that I retired the other 4 jars.

I have 4 strains coming from Swami Seeds (CC & Gascan) so we'll see how they fair against Kali Mist. However, I know even Swami breeds with Kali Mist, with high praise for it, so it's definitely a unique and much loved strain.

Serious Simon & Claude,
I couldn't care less where you got the genetics or what they're lineage is, because the genetics you sell speak for themselves. Cannabis, much like pig products, always shine through for what they are, or aren't; no one needs a family tree published on SPAM to know it's not pork cutlets. :smoke:

Interesting read this thread...

It certainly did not improve my views of serious seeds (not because of mustafunks posts, but because of the answers given to his posts), but i have learned to not give a crap about the drama/stories and focus on the plants - and kali mist does indeed speak for itself!

in 2009/2010 i grew out 3 packs of kali mist to select parental material for hybrids. There was only one thing to complain about: the male side of kali mist is almost non existent, almost every "male" plant hermied badly.

The females were fantastic though! It was hard to narrow down which ones to keep. In the first round i kept 5 females. Three grows later it came down to 3 females - all 3 are still alive today! I have had the pleasure to sample a pre98 Kali Mist once (back in 05 or 06 i think) and while it's hard to compare a faint memory with the present - i can say that the pre98 was not noticably better but pretty much the same quality.

the high of the 2009 kali is still one of the best around: inspiring and uplifting! for me it's one of the best strains for creative thinking/work. the taste is right up my alley, incense all the way (nagchampa not church incense). so yeah it may be just another skunk x haze line, but it's one of the best and still very much worth exploring! (and imho offers a different twist to it that no other company delivers, so they have their place in the market. but i whole heartedly agree with mustafunk that it sure would be nice if serious were upfront about it's genetic makeup!)

So to answer the original question of this thread in short: yes!

here is kali mist #18, one of the three keepers:

this is a kali hybrid, kali mist #26 x (purple haze x panama), i really love this combination, really special!

here is a link to pictures of the different plants from the 3 packs (the grow itself was a nightmare - white flies, thrips and mildew :( )

i live in a state with no medical marijuana and for ppl like me and many others in non legal states we could give a shit what genetic line is as long as it gives us killer smoke and destorys us and from my experince on serious i have got just that..so all this and that bullshit for ppl like us we can care less..

Simon keep doing what ur doing bc its obvious haters gonna hate and as long as my seeds germ and the end product is thunder then thats what its all about..i will be doing the serious 6 and kali mist next year outdoor guerilla stay..only have Xp with Ak-47 and it rocks..if these other 2 strains are half as good as that then im in for a treat.

I was just clicking through seeds the other night and Serious caught my eye, I think I owe it to myself to grab a pack after reading all the accolades on here.. Many of you seem very fond of this plants effect..

Notice the Swami Seeds Kali cross is from the original release may be interesting to check out.
I grew Kali Mist a couple years ago, still had a clone or two around so ran one last summer. Don't really see what all the fuss is about. It was good pot but pretty standard Dutch genetics. It got me stoned but most pot gets me stoned. I have a dozen strains that taste better and get me higher.
It finished up Oct 1 and was decent with the mold so if I ran it again it would be outside. But then I have higher yielding outdoor strains too. Definitely a hybrid, I've never seen a tropical sativa finish up here. But I can also see why some people like it, if I was a fan of Dutch stains I might of liked it more.
But I wasn't pheno hunting maybe if I sprouted a hundred I could find something special.

On a side note, does anyone else remember the old Afghan Kush 47 hashplant? I remember it in the early 90's seen rooms full of one stalk no branch big buds. Just reeked and covered in crystals. Still one of the best true Indicas I've ever seen.
Also love the cherry AK47 going to get some seeds of that soon. It's awesome.
Honestly if I wanted a Serious strain I would get the White Russian for one reason. Not impressed at all by the buds, were super frosty but they were a boring one note white strain. Not an exciting taste and smell.
But I threw a few ounces in my hashbox and shook it up. The hash that came out was amazing, pure silver resin. It was some of the most beautiful hashish I've ever seen. Smoked great, got you ripped, and the buds were so resinous the crystals sifted out with very little plant matter. If I was looking to produce hashish I'd give that strain consideration.

Got a pack of serious seeds kalimist and sonics pre 98" kalimist about a year ago. Wouldn't mind getting some western winds also and pop five of each for a mum run.
