Remember it well. Incredible moment. However, after watching it over many times, I have to say he was safe. The tag wasn't clean, and his right foot was on the plate before he was tagged again. Ump had a bad angle.

if you look more carefully you'll see that Posada's tag/swipe starts just above Giambi's achillie's tendon and that tag continues in an upward motion, @ the 34 second mark you can clearly see the tag is on Giamibi's calf just before his foot hits the bag. the ultra slow-mo starts @ the 30 second mark, have a close look several times, you can even see the uniform move from the tag, again before his foot is down.

After watching it about 10 more times, I agree. He was out. However, I don't know how the ump made the call from his angle @ full speed. Even in slow motion, it's difficult to be sure....depending on how stoned you are when you watch it.

right on!!! Whitley got his 3rd win, high pitch count got him pulled after 5, and he walked his first batter after 33 innings :)

hopefully Nuno can pull off a win tomorrow, I don't have much confidence in him though.......

Yes, Whitley is benefiting from the "Tanaka" effect, according to the N.Y. papers. The theory is, when a team is shut down badly by an ace like Tanaka, it throws off the hitters for the next pitcher they face.
Unfortunately, I did not bet the Yanks last night. I went with Felix Hernandez, and for the second start in a row, he had a shutout until the bullpen blew it, on a passed ball of all things. So he's given up zero runs in the last two games without a decision, as Seattle's hitters are pathetic.

a great series for the Bronx Bombers, Phelps tossed a good game, the Yankees haven't given him great run support in a few of his losses.......

The Yankees did good sweeping the Blue Jays. My Orioles can't seem to quite get going on all cylinders yet but they are only one game back in the loss column to both Toronto and New York. They have had a ton of injuries too. But now except for Wieters they are healthy.

Don't sleep on the Orioles. It seems every year some super hot pitcher is rolling along and the orioles rough them up. It is Tanaka's time to get beaten down on Sunday.

Tanaka will not win Sunday. His era will rise. Davis and Cruz will bring him down to earth.

how sweet it is.......

I bet the Yankees & Dodgers tonight. I had already chalked up the Yankee game as a loss, after the blunders by Girardi (not taking Kuroda out after that first run) and Texeira (swung at the first pitch after watching Baltimore pitcher walk three straight guys). He should have been taking there, and make the guy throw strikes.
But all's well that ends well. One out away, and Beltran comes through. Yanks gaining momentum and confidence. If they get to the playoffs, Tanaka is going to make them almost impossible to beat in a 7 game series, where he starts 3 of the games....:)

That sucked!!!!!!!!!

I considered it from your point of view, my comment was not meant to rub it in.......

you got even today already, rubber match tomorrow, that plus another 13 games down the line, all but 4 of them in Camden Yard.

Good luck against Tanaka :) :) :)

The Orioles do not agree with Albert Pujols. Six of the first eight Orioles made hard contact with Tanaka but they only scored 1 run. They just scored two more runs though. That said you can see he has some excellent stuff. He seems pretty smooth and effortless at times. He is going to make a great living in MLB.

If the Yankees were to make it to the playoffs it would be very difficult for Tanaka to win even one playoff game because the Yankee line-up is very weak. There is not one person in that line-up that worries me except for Ichiro and they bat him ninth. LOL! WTF???

I have watched the Orioles and Yankees since 1962 when I was 7 years old. This line-up is one of the weakest hitting Yankees teams I have ever seen. There is nobody even putting up Roy White or Bobby Murcer numbers right now.

This current game can still go to hell in a hand baskets for the Orioles. Buck Showalter will take out Tillman and bring in a can of gasoline for the 9th inning.

Hey Tanaka is out of the game losing 3-0. His ERA is 4.5 against the Orioles.

They walked Davis to load the bases for Hardy. Bad move. Very bad move. Hardy hates it when teams do that and often makes them pay.

BAM just like that.

6-0 Orioles.

WHEW. We need that for the 4 or 5 runs we will be giving up in the bottom of the 9th. LOL!
