Aspirin, the common over-the-counter drug, is a derivative of a chemical found in all plants, but in real high concentration in willow tree bark. The chemical is salicylic acid. It is a powerful chemical signalling agent in plants.

One of the big roles salicylic acid has in plants is mediating a type of "immune system" called "SAR" (Stystemic Aquired Resistance).

You can stimulate activation of SAR in a plant by giving it salicylic acid.

You can dissolve aspirin in warm water and it will decompose into salicylic acid. Giving this water to a plant can stimulate its SAR system and help it cope with disease better.

Works well.

gee thanks, couldn't a done that one on my own......If I really felt like reading a book on it I would..

Yeah, you could have done it on your own, but you were too lazy.
A book?
It's one paragraph, but I can see that might be beyond your capabilities.
Not to mention that it's been posted 100 times before, but don't bother to use the search function.
The link I gave you explains everything you need to know, but apparently you require spoon feeding.

xxxstr8edgexxx,

I have samples of my duds for you. MY duds have the weak branches that snap off with a sneeze. MY duds produce inferior flowers low in resin and poor smell. Strains that are affected thus far for me: Blue dream, harlequin, space queen, SFV OG, Purple Alien OG.

Retrogrow,

I am interested in submitting sample to http://www.allcropsolutions.com/

I have not spoken with them yet, but I imagine that testing is not cheap. What are our top 4 culprits? I am thinking:

Verticillium dahliae
Pythium
Fusarium
Phytoplasmas (aster yellows?)

My garden's background:

After destroying my root aphids and kicking out the broad mites earlier this year, something new started to happen. I first noticed these new type of duds on a few plants that I had bought from a friend. These plants that I bought were already established in soil and about 10 inches tall. They were supposed to be purple alien og plants (a strain that already thrived in my garden). However, come harvest time, it was clear that these new purple alien og were nothing like the old. The finished plants lacked smell, resin, and were crunchy (easily snapped), I quickly jumped to the conclusion that my friend had a bad broad mite problem and that the toxins from these pest were to blame. Now I had just recently started recycling my soil (uh oh). On the next run come harvest I experienced more dudding. some of my purple alien og plants exhibited the same problems as before. I thought this was because I took clones from the inferior purple alien og my friend had brought over. But now in addition I had 2 of 3 blue dream plants exhibiting symptoms. The blue dream genetic was new to my garden and I figured I had simply stressed them. Also just a few plants out of 50 wasn't enough for me to sound the alarm. Now with the harvest my most recent run the symptoms showed themselves on 2 of 7 harlequin plants, 1 of 7 blue dreams plants and 3 of 10 purple alien. At this point I start to think something is up. I jumped on here to the infirmary, low and behold this thread was just started!

This may be unrelated, but there is a tree directly outside of my grow area that had been perfectly healthy until about 3 months ago. Now it seems sick. see pics below.

The last picture posted in this post is exactly what I am experiencing:

Here are some pics of my own:

nofriend,
If you use the lab, and you should, ask them if there is any test for exposure to BM toxin, and/or what the toxin is if they know? You can call them about the your tests needed and costs, they seem like nice people.
I can not or will not make a guess without seeing the roots, and the plant, and the buds, resin, etc. close up like in my hands. Then I would guess.
Take it/them to a lab, find the worst effected and run the tests, find out what it is and you can fight it and beat it. I hope it is just one pathogen, or pest, take your soil also to be tested for pathogens and nematodes.
Good luck,

-SamS

Let the lab see the plant and soil before you decide what to test for, maybe they can help suggest what to test for. Or make a priority list and start at the top with their advice.
BM or BM toxin, Verticillium, Pythium, Fusarium, Phytoplasmas, Viruses, pests?

Good luck.

You said you had BMs, but got rid of them. Are you sure you got rid of them completely? They have a way of coming back, especially when you have all that foliage outside your house.
The tree pix definitely looks fungal. That would be my GUESS from looking at the pictures.
Have you continued to scope for BMs?

So this why you were searching for witches broom phyto plasma ?

Stunting and witches'-brooms symptoms on infected hemp plant associated with Iranian hemp witches'-broom phytoplasmas

http://scialert.net/fulltext/?doi=ppj.2011.161.167#f1
bindweed witches'-broom (Salehi et al., 2005) diseases in the centre and north west of Iran. The wide host range of stolbur group phytoplasmas on several plants in several regions in Iran could be related to presence of active insect vectors which are unknown now. However, it has not been reported that a phytoplasma related to stolbur group be associated with hemp plants in Iran and elsewhere in the world. This research is the first report on infection of hemp (C. sativa) with the phytoplasmas related to stolbur (16SrXII) group worldwide.

Dunno about witches broom . But some thing is mutating the leaves on your exclusive Dervish genetics .
I did see the aster yellow mentioned as well . Only a lab can tell .

Thanks for sharin

EB .

So the GG4 cup dud cut... I kept one around to play with and see if she improved over time. She didn't. But I noticed this the other day as I was about to take samples for a lab.

This branch got thinner. And getting darker colors. Something is choking it out I think and it's bad in this spot.

wow interesting. thanks for posting. and like has been already stated on other duds there is the shorter than normal petials on the smaller than normal fan leaves too.

question: Is that little fade i see on the fans that sorta looks cal/mag-ish just from being an old mom that not really getting fed full strength or is it something you would say is associated with the dudding?

thanks for sharing the info.

G`day 215

Whatever it is it slows / restricts the movement of elements within the plants .
The plant grows , but is forced to do so in a way that supports the pathogen over the reproduction of the plant .

The closed fingers on some of the leaves earlier in the thread hints at the same thing . not all nutes are available or the cells can`t divide like they would normally .

But like Sam I think we are looking at several different diseases . Or a combination in some cases . Those big fluffy mutated buds with no resin @ the Farm are some thing different again . Makes me wonder about a virus reproducing itself in mutating the plant ?

Thanks for sharin

str8edge, the fade is a result of the issue whatever it is.. not my feeding regimen. Every other plant I have is wonderfully lush and healthy. It's not root bound either. Dud GG4 has always grown like this for me. The only time it starts to look a bit better is the first week after a transplant.

Elmer, I agree.

Flowered the la cup cut in and outside. Same result as you 215. Its weird how they start vegging great but go sideways then after a few weeks they get yellowish veins starting in the new growth. Both cases it came out straight HAY!! I kept a dozen outdoor to see if the sun would snap them out of it and surely its not. Ill take some pics tomorrow and post. Meanwhile our seed packs from the la cup are coming out super dank.

Has anyone hit any with an aspirin drench? That should stimulate an immune response.

I used aspirin, and the plants still grew strangely. I have seen aspirin produce positive results before. I do throw it in the res when I fill.

Glad to see a few others not afraid to whip out there Dicks for all to see.. I mean duds....

215 have you tried essential oils yet?
