The NEW E-Papillon 1000W Thread

...
So efficiency actually is the amount of energy you use to create growlight.
In the case of the ePapillon it makes 1,88 micromol out of every Watt it consumes.

Does the ePapillon radiate a lot of light? Definately. Does it give the most light for every Watt you put in? Definately.
This is a 1000W system and will beat any other lighting in the business.
At least that is what Utah University tested in a study on 20 different lightsystems.
...

how about compared to the gavita pro 1000w DE using the same philips de bulb?

they have posted 1.93 micromol per watt:

Need Help with 8ft x 8ft grow: light decisions...

Hi, I'm planning a 8ft x 8ft grow in a 11ft x 11ft room and I need help deciding which light fixture will provide me with the maximum yield in my situation. I understand the epap is designed so that three lights can cover two 4x8 grow areas, but that's when they are end to end. In my situation I have two 4x8 grow areas next to each other forming a 8x8. Will I have to use 4 lights to maximize my grow? If so, would the Gravitas or another double ended reflector that directs the light straight downward be more effective and produce a greater yield? (since I can't really take advantage of much light overlap)

I'm just trying to buy the BEST GROW LIGHT on the market. Whatever that may be. I've been pretty convinced from my research that double ended bulbs and open reflectors are more effective than single socket bulbs and air-cooled reflectors, so I'm sticking with those. I'm just not sure which reflector to get in my situation.

This will be a sealed room with a CO2 tank and mini-split ac, fully automated ebb and flow hydroponic system, hydroton medium and full House and Garden nutrient line. I'm aiming for the best professional medical indoor hydroponic grow room money can buy. However, I only have one room to do both vegging and flowering so I'm trying to maximize it as much as possible. My plan is to fit 36 plants in 4.5 gallon pots in the 8x8. I'm starting from seeds not clones, so I need as many plants vegging as possible since I don't know how many males I'll get. You might think that a 8x8 in a 11x11 room won't leave me much walking space but I have a plan for that. I'm building two 4x8 tables that will lay on metal poles lining the floor just like in commercial greenhouses to utilize my space efficiently. That will enable me to easily roll the growing beds apart when I need to walk around or down the middle and work on the plants. But primarily the 8x8 will be in a corner of the room to be close to the reflective walls.

I just don't know if the epap is best for a 8ft x 8ft, can someone help?

Hey GroGuy,
As far as the reflector design goes I think the ePaps and Gavitas put down a similar canopy size, but that the ePap is better at dissipating the heat. Both systems rely on that overlap from a higher lamp position to get the even canopy coverage. But, is the ePap worth 20% more than the Gavita... I'd be willing to give DGS a fair chance to defend the extra $400 you'd spend on those lights.

With 4 lamps in an 8x8 area you're definitely cruising with the ppf in there. CO2 supplementation would be necessary to really take advantage of all that light. If you're going to do it, do it right, and invest in your environment at least as much as you invest into your lighting.

I'm looking forward to swapping out my 6 lamps with the new E-paps. I saw your booth in Tacoma for the Max Yield expo and got some great info from you guys. Thanks! nice people too ;) Much love, SL

DGS,

Now that Philips isn't making bulbs for these fixtures, what lamps will you be swapping these out with?? I've heard there is an entire ware house in the Netherlands waiting to get bulbs... Is this true? Thanks, SL

15% more of the light at 1000 since it runs at 1150. These things are pretty darn efficient, my ballast is never hot, about what you would expect from the 60W loss.

(I asked a similar question to this earlier in the thread)

Because of legal reasons Philips doesn't want to be associated with the hydroponics market anymore.
Lights Interaction will have them available for the horticulture market though.

Currently we are using the ePapillon 1000W EL Plus lamps which give 2100 micromol/s and have the same output as the Philips lamps that we were using in the past. These lamps are specifically made for the ePapillon 1000W fixtures in the EU.

More double ended lamps are available in the market, but these don't give the same amount of light. Even using them can affect the lifetime of the fixtures.

As for the warehouse in the Netherlands waiting to get bulbs: We are continuously supplying fixtures with bulbs. We already had the new ePapillon 1000W bulbs available before the Philips lamps were discontinued. There are plenty of ePapillon fixtures available.

Just looking at the e-paps and wondering if I'm better off looking at the 600w or the 1000w which can be turned down. I guess it depends how I will end up using them. Tricky, as I'm not totally decided on how I'm going to grow in the log run. At the moment I'm trying to do tree grows using bare vert 600w bulbs (x3).

What is the lifespan of the bulb i.e. how long does the bulb last? Whats the replacement cost on the bulb? and Do you have distribution in Canada?

I would go for the dimmable 1000W. It's definately better value for your money and gives you more options.
