high velocity fan for floor fan

Hey guys I've got a question about the floor fan blowing the hot air up from a bare bulb vert setup.
I have been seeing a lot of people using a small "muffin" (idk what that is) fan or small Honeywell to blow the hot air off the bare bulb up to the extractor fan. I have a high velocity fan from Lowe's that I'm currently using, even the low setting really moves some air.
this fan is also pretty bulky. I am running my 600 w right now for veg and temps are 82 tops on a hot day. I will be running the 1000w for flower and I am worried I will have heat issues after reading you want a fan on low to gently push the heat up, and not a powerful fan that will blow the heat up then back down .

should I get a Honeywell and use my high velocity fan for something else?

http://m.lowes.com/product?langId=-1&storeId=10702&catalogId=10051&productId=4755301&store=595&view=detail&nValue=4294856700+4294749161 there's a link to my fan.

oh my space is a 4.5' x 4.5' x 7' tall tent if that matters.

I don't want to use cool tubes because I want all the extra light from bare bulb.

thanks!

I'd go with the Honeywell. I use them and so do many others. They push a perfect column of air up over the bulb. The floor fan certainly cannot do this.

It would probably work, but I think $20 is a small investment for better heat management. Up to you really. If you need to save the dough, do one run without it.

Right on I re read the "thinking about going vert ? " sticky and found
my answer around page 7 or so.

went ahaid and picked up the smaller Honeywell.

I put it on the low setting, and my temps dropped to77°F
wish I wouldn't have dropped the money on the powerful fan, but I'm sure I'll find a use for it.

Weird that a fan 1/3 the price does much better at cooling than the expensive guy. also the Honeywell is on a milk crate which gave me a lot more space.

I'm gonna put that orange plastic fencing on the walls to tie the plants back to, lst if you will.

Plants are 40 days from seed and getting 14-18 inches tall, I'm really seeing explosive growth with coco and vert bare bulb. I have a thread started in the coco forum w pics, no new pics in a couple weeks tho.

Thamks for chimin in guys bout the "gentle" column of air with the fan on it`s lowest setting.....

You may have already found it Indocult , but with the fan on it`s lowest setting , it merely assists natural heat convection/heat rising and allows the heat to be constantly sucked out of the grow area...that is if yas exchange air twice per minute.....

Larger fans move too much air and end up keeping the room hotter from blowing heat up and away from the extraction outlet as you found out once exchanging fans....now....

A "muffin fan" is simply a small round fan with a wide based swivel movement stand that allows the fan to be swiveled up parallel to the floor pointed directly at the bare bulbs , and resembles a "muffin"...

This same sized fan also fits right in the top of a 5 gal bucket and can be used to mask smell/strong odors with holes drill 1/3 of the way up the bucket for intake and positive flow , and "Ona Gel" diluted in water to assist carbon filters with extra stong stinky strains..low setting as well for smell control....anyways...

Good luck...DHF....:ying:....

Freds !!!!! I am so glad you chimed in, before I got to the end of your post I was thinking "this guy types exactly like dhf"
I hadn't seen any posts from ya in a while and you are one of this sites best advice givers in my opinion, was really worried something happened! So I'm happy to see you here and hope all is going well with ya.

About the ona bucket idea, will the ona have any impact on my herb? Will it take away stink? I read the ona works on a molecular level to neutralize odor.

it's about 6-7 weeks in from seed , still vegging but some of these ladies are reeking already, but only when I put my head in the tent. The phresh filter ( 6 x 16) is doing a great job at scrubbing the s tank , just got it for this grow. but I'm in hell as you call it so I can't have stank . I had to tear down early and move from last spot because you could smell it in the drive, and I'm sure the neighbors had to smell it.
I'll try to get some pics up tonight, these plants are getting bushy how do I encourage them to stretch? Lift the bulb? They seem to be doing a lot more bushing out than growing up right now. starting to get too crowded, I'm probably gonna have to flip soon and pull the males just to give the ladies space. I have room for 8-10 ladies, now I have 16 unknowns.
!

Mr blah, what size wattage of a lamp? I had a smaller 4" fan that I tried just to see if smaller fan was better, and while it did keep the temp below 90, it wasn't by much. this honeywell is badass , I may get a wider one just because so much heat radiates out from the side of the bulb. just to increase the width of the column of cool air pushing up. I'm also realizing this will be my first grow where I don't have a fan blasting directly at the plants. don't know how I got this far without seeing anything about that being a no no. .
wondering if I should get an oscillating fan to blow the air around at the plants, because right now they aren't moving from air flow at all. I plan on running chicken wire across the ceiling and tying the branches up for support, so I'm not worried about stem strength.

Steadydets, I like the looks of that one, may get it for my next tent/room

I use a floor mountet 100 cm ceiling fan wich gives a gentle but very large airflow....

Forgot to explain myself...

I live in cold conditions at 55N. here summertime last for 2-3 month, we got like 8-9 month of the same cold weather, and 2-3 month of imo very cold conditions.

Ive been told to change the air in the growroom 2 times a minute (guess by who), so ive been calculated my DIY octagon´s cubic size and bought a exhangefan to handle the flow. But in the room the octagon is placed in is much bigger. I could use very large industrial fans and it wouldnt be enough for twice a minute and on top of that my room would go down to like 12-15 Celcius 8-9 month a year, its 10 C below for optimum growth.
So here comes the ideas with a large but gentle flow.

1; It changes the air around the plants all 8 sides.
2; It does not make hurricane conditions.
3; The heat from the bulb is blown awy from the plants.
4; The heat is used, to heat up the new cold intake air from outside.
5; Many things combined makes it cheaper to run. Around 40W.

Sum is..
Instead of building a lungroom, ive made the lung around the room.
Thats the only reason to get a large 100 cm fan for pushing around the air.
The fan uses around 40W at setting 2 of 3, Id like to see multiple fans get the all the same jobs done, for the same amount of watt - just as good.

At summer i run it at setting 1, in order for the exhange to get out newly made varm air.
In winter i got it on 3, in order to get it around to keep the temps high enough.

Imo
there is no optimal colum of air for vert...
... Its all down to the room, the shape and size mostly, the enviroment outside that growroom and the amount one wants to spend on good air- condition, during the current season.

It`s all about controlling environment first and foremost Airnut as you know , and you using the room itself to help control it evidently is what you need to do where you`re at geographically....but....not needed here in the states with normal environmental equipment...great idea for where you are though....

Running a lung area where air AND environment can indeed be exchanged twice per minute insures that absolutely the fan on it`s lowest setting is the optimal position to keep temps from varying within 10 degree variables between lights on and off.....now...

Not sure at all bout that Ona gel workin on a "molecular" level to rid rooms of smells , but I can testify after usin that very setup I spoke above in ALL my lungroom/basement areas for many many yrs with excellent results....

Properly diluted and gently dispersed as a room air freshener insured the last scrubber out into the unfinished basement area sent nothing but no smell when cycled on and off at intervals during the day....anyways...

Good luck...DHF....:ying:....
