First vertical donut

So I guess the consensus is that bare bulbs after far superior to cooltubes? I'm willing to give it a shot, but I am a little worried about temps.
So if I put a fan below the bare bulbs, and position my exhaust directly above the lights, I will get the same effect as the cooltubes?

Yep,bun fan on low-exhaust up high, x 2 air exchange and cool intake, it's damn close...lol
Turns your whole tent/room into a large cool tube.

Take some tweaking to get just right, yet worth the effort for most.

Work some magic, bro..

The only thing I'm missing is cool intake. This is a normal house bedroom. The "intake" is basically just passive from under the door and through the central air vent. I have an inline fan exhausting out of the window, creating negative pressure in the room. The passive air coming in will be in the 70° range. I don't remember the cfm rating of my fan. It's a 6 inch S&P silent td150...I think!?

I do have an 8 inch canfan hooked up to my carbon filter. If I needed to I could switch those 2 out to get more cfm in my exhaust. I'm a little afraid that too much exhaust is going to push my central AC to much.
...and yes I know the best option would be to put a mini split in there, but I'm trying to avoid that. And my breaker is maxed out as it is. I don't really want to upgrade the circuit, if I can avoid it.
Thanks for the tips guys! I really appreciate it. I'm trying to read through all of the other great vert threads. I'm short on time, so I squeeze in a little each day.

Just picked this guy up at target. If it works like the little picture on the side of the box, then it will be perfect.

Fan works as advertised. It's a pretty concentrated column of air.
Now I'm in the process of rigging a way to mount the sockets. I had a telescoping iv stand in the garage. I cut the top half off and mounted a piece of aluminum to it so I can raise and lower it. Then I'm going to attach the other half from the ceiling so I can raise and lower the upper light. If it works, it'll be pretty sweet.
Pics to come!

Are you running your lights at night?... Ya know to take advantage of cooler temps so your AC isn't overworked. Might be something to consider.

I will be running this at night, however I also have a 600hps horizontal cabinet that I will be running during the day. The cab is in the same room. I don't have enough amps to run 3 600s at once, so I'm going to alternate.

Well that sounds right.. 1800 watts and some extras should fully load a 15A breaker. I see the need to alternate the load.

Find another circuit to use.. extension cord to another room.. etc.. that way everything can share a common timing and reduce heatload by running everything at night since AC is an issue. You could even reduce the load on the one circuit if you want, reduce the chance of a tripped breaker.

With everything on the same timing, you wont have to worry about light contamination/leak issues if in the same room. If you did have to work on the cab, you wont expose your vertical, or vice versa.

I'm in the process of dismantling my cooltubes, and I have a question:
They both have a ground wire screwed into the metal. I'm just going to screw it into the piece of aluminum that I'm mounting the socket to. Is this ok?I want to do it the right way, so I'm not worried about burning my house down.
Thanks

I didn't finish my screens and platforms until my girls had already been flowering horizontally for a few weeks, so the training is kind of make shift. But even with that,I think I'm going to like going vertical. It's looking like I will be getting very little popcorn fluff, with everything getting light.
This is 2 of the 4 screens. In a couple of weeks I will be chopping, and putting clones on all 4 sides. now that I kind of have a feel for the training,I think my next run is going to be fun!

Thanks! Me too! These are the biggest I've had yet. I really think the vertical training is part of it. I think I had a problem over vegging my horizontal grows, and leaving them to crowded, so I mostly got a bunch of round tops, instead of these kind of long colas. I do still have a horizontal cab going at the moment, and this time I really thinned it out so that each plant only has a few main branches. I'm hoping I can get some similar looking colas from those as well.
...And This pheno is some kind of monster also. That doesn't hurt!

Well I chopped my vert testers, and I'm ready to load the donut on all 4 sides! considering I didn't even put these on the vert screens until halfway through flowing, I'd say they did pretty well. I posted lots of pics on the bluedigiberry thread, in the VGS seeds forum.
