What's new

Typical 3-bed semi,UK?

generally its 100amp fuse this is rated relevant to the cable coming in. You can bypass a fuse but if you take the piss you risk fires as you can draw to much through the size of cable. if you are in an older property sometimes its been down graded from 3 phase so if you know what your lookin at you can do more cos the 3 phase supply is there but the property would only be using 1 phase

Ah, so it's not just a case of bunging a bigger fuse in but of the amount of power the cable can handle. Makes sense even to me. Thanks, NG.

Something I've been wondering about is the fuse where the electric comes in. That's what limits the amount a property can draw from the grid at any particular time. Can these fuses be changed for a bigger ampage and how easy is it to do?

i no a guy who can change the main fuse you are talking about people here do it for free leccy well not free they still pay a bill but its nothing compared to what they use and they dont grow...?

A landlord has to give 24 hours advanced notice for entry to their property.

You'll likely find that changing the locks will be a brake of contract and could get the contract terminated.

Having said that, I changed my locks as first priority.

renting gaffs for growing is a lot harder these days, the vietnamese aint helped one bit.
lotsa landlords do 3 month inspections now and you change the locks and they gonna wanna know why.
they supposed to give 24hr notice, but some dont and do just turn up

you dont wanna rent off an agency, private rents are better or some towns/cities have estate agents that are known for renting to growers lol funny but true

STOP GUESSING WITH ELECTRICS ,,
if u aint trained keep the fuck away from it ...telling people they can change the main dno fuse is a big no-no ,,it will not reduce your bill ,,most likely set your house on fire though

houses were never wired in 3 phases ,,were do u people get this info ,3 phase allows the use of 440v thats all ..

if u want to know anything electrical ask an electrician !!!!

listen hazy I used to be a site foreman on really big highend building sites so ye houses do get wired with 3 phase I have seen it all over the country my best friend has it in a 4 bed cottage he lives in now. so maybe you should take your own advise before you start trying to talk people down on stuff you clearly dont know about.....

3 phase on domestic is 3 phases of 100 amps so bigger houses farms mansions etc have to get it installed as the demand from the house is greater than 100 amp

i no a guy who can change the main fuse you are talking about people here do it for free leccy well not free they still pay a bill but its nothing compared to what they use and they dont grow...?

but yeh thcgrower i think you have your wires crossed on the fuse thing (excuse the pun)

As a qualified electrician I think I know what im talking about ...3 phase is used in industry ..its has no use in the domestic sector....

I am no electrician but I do work for a big energy provider and I do know that larger houses and mansions etc with hot tubs, swimming pools etc do have CT meters and 3 phase supplies to cope with demand.

hi

never comment on forums but this is pretty similar to me so here goes

i have 2 rooms, a 10 lighter and a 12 lighter and 3 tents ( 2 dr120s and 1 dr150 ) with one light running per tent and have had these for 7 years or so on and off..... and an attic with 3 - 400s for veg

both rooms operate on a checkerboard so only half lights at once ( 5 and 6 ).... but cover a larger sq ftage, so total lights is really 14 flower and 3 veg

the rooms are on a flip, all 600w lights and in a 2 bedder semi

bills vary between 1000 and 1600 a quarter ( i have to dial it down about now for summer heat probs ) and ive never had a question raised

nice expensive ish housing area with a few 5 or 6 million quid houses within a 1/4 mile, few electric cars on the street already ( bmw i3s ), built up usage from 2 lights around 9 years ago gradually to what i currently run

i talk to the power company every now and then, last time was about switching tarrifs, the girl said i use a lot of juice and my reply was ..........

" yes i know, your are incredibly expensive, i have 2 outdoor dog kennels that are heated and a bitcoin miner and your bills are a joke, i dont get enough discount for all the power im using can i speak to someone about getting a discount or i will switch, 500 quid direct debit a month is extorsion"

the reply

" yes mr ....., we will apply a 10% discount from now on as long as you stay with us for another year "

IMO............. if you can hold a conversation in a professional and slightly condescending manner if you are ever questioned you will never have a problem, as long as you can explain the usage and its built up over time ( renting and blowing a house up with 2 - 10 lighters is asking to get busted )

if i turned my air con in the conservotory on all summer its 4.2kw constant.......... if i had a hot tub thats another 5kw............. bitcoin miner 4kw................... bmw electric car charger 6kw etc etc etc etc

they dont give a shit

ps - i have experience of renting and doing 12 lighters in 4 bed detached houses and never had probs, but always picked houses that were huge and had a high electric usage anyway ( pools or stables ) so ask if you need help on that

oh dear

ive lived in 3 houses with 3 phase ( out of 7 houses total )

i wont bore you with what type of houses as you clearly have never lived in one or are educated on the particular subject, are you?

to quote yourself - "if u want to know anything about........................................................................................................... houses and 3 phase ask someone who has actually lived in one ( i.e not you )

so for info, incase you ever go back into the business

houses with...........

a pool

or

horse stables

or

old farmhouses

or

new build 10 bedders

or

houses with hot hubs

or

houses with cat 5 and IT suites

or

most brown stones in london ( circa 1800s )

or

most new build houses with more than 12 beds or ones that have an electric car point or large out houses ( barns / stables etc )

or

most new builds that are in a range of 3 miles from a wind farm or solar harvest ( typically farm houses but some estates are now falling into this category )

or

a million other reasons............................................

do i need to continue, or in your entire career did you never do any electric work apart from changing a plug ???

please forgive my harsh reply, its the language i use with rude and " i know it all " people who typically hang around the internet professing they are experts on all aspects of life but are rarely an expert in anything other than their own imagination

wow

changing the fuse would affect the bill exactly 0% ( its a fuse...... really do you need this explaining ?? )

try changing the fuse in you ballast, ive heard it knocks your bill down 90% !!! lol

oh and dont forget the kettle

hi northern

im not usually such an dick but the comments are laughable so got a little carried lol

in answer......... even tho its a old post

i would easily say you can move in and do a 6 lighter to get your quarter bills up to the 6 - 700 mark for 3 months

then

add a tent or 2 and creep up to the 800 - 900 mark for 6 months

then

add a 2nd bedroom at 3kw and creep up to the 1200 quidders mark over 18 months

thats how i went and then just sustained it till now

easy 300 zips every 3 months if you get veg right and thats a 1 man op so a bit neglected
