Plants don't like my small veg cupboard? I don't know why?

24 hours of light doing something better for the plants is a myth!
24 hours on is a unlimited amount of time for heat to build up. Lights off will help let the cabinet cool down then will most likely (lights on) take several hours to heat back up.

did i miss the can size? sure, i've seen the shotglass compos et c. but i also find that growth slows way down when the roots find the can.

could be a strain/pheno/individual thing too...

Everyone saying it's too hot........ It's not too hot, it's probably luke warm.

I have even tried with a cooler light and better air circulation.

I am confused.

The leaves just seem to lack their gloss or waxyness, which they regain if put outside, so i know it isn't the strain.
They kind of look a duller green and a coarser texture, not yellowing really, just not vibrant.

I have had a search for 'glossy' and 'waxy' and saw that some people have had these troubles in the past but they never mentioned if or how they solved their problem.....

I thought it might be the light, or cupboard being toxic in some way, but i don't think so? I don't know?

I can't really think of what else.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks. :thank you:

Did you change your circulation so that you are pushing or pulling air through the cabinet instead of moving it around inside and relying on passive exchange for fresh air?

If there's not enough fresh air coming in and going out you won't have sufficient CO2 levels and any air borne toxins will concentrate.

I did cut out a bigger hole and aim the fan at the hole, which did seem to work for a couple of days.....

but, after a couple of days the problem started happening again.

I will try to mount a fan into the side of the cupboard to get even better air exchange.
That is the only other thing i can think of, and the build up of some unknown toxins, that you mentioned, seems plausible.

Thanks again. :ying:

with my first grow i just surrounded a corner of the room with black and white sheets of plastic, i hung a 400watt hps added 1 oscillating ventilator and that was it. the plants had no problems at all in veg. so really i don't think lack of active ventilation will actually screw up your plants to that extent. they will grow slower and might be susceptible to pm and mold in flowering, but they should still grow and look fine till those issues overtake them.

anyway gl finding the problem, maybe consider offgassing. i dealt with this crap myself. ofcourse i could be seeing it everywhere now due to my recent experience with it, lol.

When you say luke warm do you mean like in the mid 80's ? My plants are happiest under 84 degrees. If you can feel warmth, you need to get a real 24, 36, 48 hours lights on temperature reading. Get some temperature readings and stop chasing your tail!

Not once has the OP mentioned the actual temperature, so all everyone can do is guess.

I just remember i have a thermometre outside, I will get a temperature reading. :)

Okay so it has nothing to do with temperature then. Which sucks because that would have been an easy fix. Maybe it's a lack of co2 then?

How many plants vs how much space?

My guess would have to be volume of air rather than circulation as well.

I had an issue some time ago with too many plants occupying a single space. The volume of air exchanged had to be increased because the area inside the cabinet wasn't ideal anymore.

Oh and about the light cycle, I'd like to ask you one question.

Is there reason why you use 24 hours over 18/6, in terms of one being better than the other?

I use 18/6

Saves power.

Dark Cycle, IME, helps with growth. I've done side by side comparisons and my 24/0 plants grew slower than my 18/6 group.

Everyone is entitled to grow the way they please, but it seems that there are more positive benefits to a dark cycle than growing a crop without one.

In any case, Good Luck. By the way, I think those veg temps are a bit on the colder side, enough to stunt them a bit.

Just for reference, the lowest temp I will hit is 76 degrees and 40% humidity. The plants absolutely love that temp range.

Hot and sweaty for veg.

Dry and a little cooler for flower.

I am going to try giving them some darkness for 4 hours aswell, it might not make a difference, but it can't hurt.

Thanks for the help. :)

I just spent an hour fitting an exhaust fan but i put it on the wrong way.

It is blowing air into the cupboard.

Do ventilation fans have to run 24 hours, or can they work 30 minutes every 2 hours etc. if they are doing a good job?

It needs to run 24/7. Also, if it makes you feel any better, I installed my exhaust fan the wrong way the first time around in my most recent cabinet build too. It happens. It's a good thing it's an easy fix! :tiphat:
