Pump pulls full vacuum in seconds

I have a 3 cfm 2 stage pump that pulls full vacuum in seconds. It doesn't seem like a good purge if I'm only vaccing for a few seconds. Do I turn the vacuum pump on and just leave it without worrying about Hg? Or do I slightly open the release valve to keep the Hg at 29? There isn't much info on actually running vac pumps for bho.

There is so much info in this forum about running a vac pump for bho. Some leave it on. Others pull to different hg levels and shut it off.

Will my vac pump reach max vac and stay there on its own or do I need to release air to keep it idling at 29.9? I want to make shatter

It will stay at full vacuum as long as the pump is running. If your gage reads lower than 29.9 ignore it. The same results can be achieved purging under or over 30hg the only difference is time.

What.

If your gauge reads lower than 29.9 when trying to pull a full vacuum you either have a leak or are at a significant elevation. Boris, your last sentence isn't necessarily true either.

Do you have the ability to seal off your chamber after a full vacuum has been reached? (Ideally 29.5 Hg to prevent boiling off terpenes and thc.)

There is an incredible amount of info on the net about "actually running vac pumps for bho". Gotta do the searching, my friend. Unfortunately ICMAG has a turd of a search engine. Google does a much better job of locating something on this site if you include "ICMAG". Toke City has lots of information on purging as well.

Best of luck.

If you are trying for shatter,IME, I use the vac moderately,

I don't start at full vac right away, as this is a form of agitation, leading to nucleation.
Instead,I start out with a cold chamber, then start warming up the chamber slowly.

Pull to 15 and deflate
Pull to 20 deflate, etc, until you've reached full vac.
I then run the vac with my temps around 90-115*F for about 20-30 minutes,

*here is where I venture off into my own routine*
I then turn the pump off, release the vac and use my chamber as an oven,36 hours minimum at 90*..

I do this with hard finishes like shatter,as it can look great, taste great, but as proven from the last cup,all but 1 passed the hydrocarbon test, :(

That makes me sad, because I LOVE rock hard shatter, with 36 hours plus vac, I'm nearly sure it would test very low on the hydrocarbons,

After 36 hours, it's time to vac again,
-grab a fresh piece of parchment

-turn temp to 115

-remove patty from original parch

-flip the patty to its underside.

-once oil surface reads 115,turn on the pump, you should see quite a bit of reaction(looks to be boiling) run this for about 15 mins,

-let patty cool and flip again, if you are doing it right, you will see craters void of any oil(holes).. This where the remaining solvent escaped.

The oil should be somewhat pliable while it's lukewarm ,so when you flip, I usually try and stretch the oil to increase surface area, this also makes existing holes larger again increasing surface area by making a thinnest film possible.

Back to the vac, turn temps up to 117-120 ish and pull full vac and let her run another 15 minutes or so,

You should again see a rapid fire bubbles popping,
Note:these bubbles I describe should be rather large and randomly sized,if you start seeing the bubbles slow to equally sized fizzy state, you are pretty much done,

After that, I let it sit in the chamber, under no vac at 117* for about 10 minutes.

Hope this helps, as I'm so damn stoned I can use dental floss as a blindfold,I would not see a thing, happy extracting and always keep your safety and those close to your vicinity at the forefront of your mind.
