lol.. thats what happens with anyone else working in the rooms . lol.. had the same thing happen with a bunch of clones that i was turning into the new moms.. and now i do everything myself or with the wifey.. id rather teach someone who has no clue about growing to do things my way.. then to try and reteach someone who already has there own techniques..

It's way easier to fire your self and re hire your self .

The problem is that I can't possibly do everything because there's not enough time in a day. No one else understands my hydro techniques so there's no one to really handle those tasks as of now. When I leave for a day I have to coach everyone on the phone. It's that problem that most people don't seem to pay attention to details for some reason. It is what it is. I see similar situations right on IC as well so it's not a new thing. I just have to make sure that I do the most important tasks so I'll have no one to blame but myself.

synpe in your 4 bucket system is the filter in the wrong position facing the wrong way or does it matter ? it looks to different then your larger systems ? filters i have experience with usually are directional ?

EDIT: by looking at the breakdown i can see direction is not an issue. some filters can be..

I'm petty high right now but I do see what you are saying. I think the filter in the 4 bucket system is pointed in the right direction. That other picture might be wrong but it's hard for me to see. If you look on the device itself, it shows you which way you want your water to flow. The stuff in the filter should be left behind inside the circle and not on the outside. Maybe it will work both ways but I really don't know.

do you workers smoke much weed while working ?
One of them does and one of them doesn't. I'm not sure about Snypette. I usually don't smoke until most of the work is done unless I'm in a weird mood where I need to smoke. If you are insinuating that smoking fucks up the work somehow, I don't believe this to be true. From my personal situations, when I do smoke and work if everything is going smooth, I'm more in tune with my plants and come up with better ideas and plans. I don't know how it is for other people though.

The funny thing is that none of these people were ever growers so they didn't know anything. LOL! They are all good people though. It's not that big of a deal after a couple of hours and I find a way to fix things.

i was comparing the pictures of your 10 bucket system in your tutorial its clear to see in that.

what pressure does this system work at when each bucket is full of roots. since pressure is the resistant to flow it must be vitally important when using pvc cement.

dont mind me blabbering on, my mind remembers more things when i write it or type it out.

The 4-buckt system is right, the other picture of the 12 bucket system is wrong. We changed it after the picture was taken. If you read my step by step closely, you would see:

Building the manifold for systems using 250 watt or 400 watt lights

Part List for 2 Row Manifold, 250 Watt or 400 Watt Lighting
(2) 1.5" Male PVC Trap Adapter (Nibco)
(2) 1.5" Female PVC 90 Degree Elbow - (Pressure applications)
(1) 1.5” PVC T - (slip) - Pressure applications
(1) 1.5" to 1" Bushing - Slip
(2) 1.5” PVC cut to a lenth of 6-7/8"
(2) 1” PVC cut to a length of 5"
(1) 1” Ball Valve Shut Off (slip)
(1) 1" Union - Slip
(1) 1" to 3/4" Bushing - Threaded
(1) 3/4" Stainless Steel "Y" Filter with Flush
PVC Cleaner (Clear Cleaner)
PVC Cement (Heavy Duty)
Teflon Tape

When cleaning and cementing your PVC Unions and Ball Valves, make sure the valve is in the open position and that you take apart your Union beforehand so that you don't ruin your Union Washer and Ball Valve.

Step 1:
With the PVC Cleaner, clean the inside of the two PVC 90 Degree fittings, your two 6-7/8” pieces of PVC pipe, and your PVC Trap Adaptors. If you don’t know how to do this please look it up on YouTube. Apply the PVC Cement to the trap adaptors and the 90 Degree fittings and connect them together. If you don’t know how to do this please look it up on YouTube. After those pieces dry, apply the PVC Cement to the 90 Degree fittings and one end of the 6-7/8” PVC pieces and connect them together. It should look like this when it’s done:


Step 2:
Apply the PVC Cement to the other end of the 6-7/8” PVC Fittings and 2 out of the 3 holes of the PVC T Fitting and connect them together one at a time. You can put it on your floor as your doing it to make sure that it is nice and straight when you are doing it. It should look like this when it’s done:

Step 3:
With the PVC Cleaner, clean the inside of the Shut Off, the outside of the 2 piece's of 5" PVC pipe and the bushing. Apply the PVC Cement to the Bushing, the Shut Off and the (2) 5" piece of PVC pipe. Attach the Bushing to the Shut Off and then attach one end of the PVC pipe to the other end of the Shut Off. Once that dries, apply the PVC Cement to the other side of the PVC pipe and the last hole in the PVC T fitting and attach them together.

Step 4:
With the PVC Cleaner, clean the inside of the 1" Union and the 1" x 3/4" Bushing and Cement them together. Put 3 rotations of Teflon Tape onto the Y-Filter in a clockwise direction and screw it into your manifold that you just built. Your 4 bucket manifold is now built and should look like this:

what part of your techniques are they having trouble understanding ? dont you just change the res with that kinda setup ? you having to coach them about ph, temps and ppm's ? or are you trying to teach/coach them on what amount to feed and when to feed lol :biggrin:

Yeah, it's that simple as adjusting pH and changing out systems and it's a nightmare trying to teach them to do it properly. When I asked the 2 people what 24 + 24 was, they told me 40. This may show you why this is going to be difficult.

Thats pretty rough lol. As long as they are willing to learn, it will probably work out. My friends just like looking at the stuff and repeatedly ask which strains are which. They never pay attention to anything i do (when it comes to feeding). They have the opportunity to learn and choose not to. Thats why i dont do business with friends

On the picture on page 7 of the build tutorial, that picture has the Y-Filter backwards and is incorrect. My step by step of how to build the manifold with the Y-Filter is correct with those pictures.

The picture of those 2 systems is wrong. It was put together by someone else and I needed to snap pictures of it to use. He was told that it was in the wrong position and changed it after the pictures were taken. Sorry for the confusion but the instructions in the tutorial are correct.

We had crazy wind and rain here. We got about 2" of rain with very high winds. The rain stopped and the sun came out so I went to check on the plants a few hours ago. A ChemdogDD has all it's branches on the floor. Other than that there was a branch here and there that fell over. I added some more stakes to support those poor branches. The plants looked great! It was a great site! I passed right by them with the 4 wheeler because I couldn't see them with all the new cover growth around the plot. The plants have been outside for days now! I think they have made it through the initial stress and cold temperatures. Should be all gravy from here!

The next couple of days I'm going to focus on making some Hash Oil. I got about 8 pounds to run through and only have a 2oz model. :dunno: Not going to be fun. Can't wait to upgrade to a 2.5 pound model pretty soon with the AI oven.

May you reap the rewards that your heart deserves.

Just wanted to say hey, been reading your stuff for awhile now, all your ups and downs. Reading your first post in this thread really got me. It was about the realest description of my life word for word that I could never have come up with. An open book, the invincibility and depression, living in the future then dwelling in the past. Just wanted to say, much love man, I go through it every day too. I feel like as growers we give up a lot of ourselves to the plant, in sacrifice for others. I have learnt more and grown more as a human while I have been on this road than any of the others I have walked thus far. Blood sweat and tears is the only way to put it. May you reap the rewards that your heart deserves.

Here's My RDWC project. I will be replacing the rez. with another 28gal. Brute. and have to add the filter. Been watching Hygro Hybrid on Youtube. Going to be running 2 600Hps Mag. Ballasts I have 2 LVPKxNev Haze S1's going that will be vegged to approx. 30"bushs trained for scrog nets. pretty much like HH does it. Don't wanna jack Your thread, but I gotta show someone.lol.
I plan to do a thread on this once I get a little further into it.
To many irons in the fire to keep up ATM. Yeah like You don't, huh?:laughing:

Looks like a cool project! I would recommend in upgrading your air pump to something like an Alita AL-80 and use the same 12 site air manifold that I use with 6 air stones in each tote. I wouldn't use that air pump that you have in the picture. Those better quality air pumps that run at low pressure seem may also produce less heat than the high pressure one in your picture. Air is very important in RDWC and in a lot of systems that I see, they are usually lacking in the Air Pump department. I could just be jumping to conclusions but I'm just stating what I see. Here's a little statement that I found helpful from a pond site in regards to shallow ponds and aeration:

Although they aren’t usually as stratified and rarely suffer from thermoclines, shallow ponds have little vertical room for bubbles to rise. Diffusers don’t get a chance to move as much water on the way up, and they won’t affect as much water laterally either. Aerating shallow lakes and ponds effectively usually requires more diffusers spaced much more closely together, which increases the cost per unit area somewhat. But low-pressure air pumps and blowers suitable for shallow water cost less to run per cubic foot per minute (CFM) of air than high-pressure, deep-water compressors, so the choice of the proper source of air is important. Surface units such as fountains and paddle-wheel aerators can be effective in shallow water, but the paddle wheels are noisy and generally less attractive, while the surface fountain types look wonderful but don’t do much mixing beyond a very limited area, offering more show than D.O. (dissolved oxygen).

Diffusers
Diffusers generally fall into two types. Needle-punched EPDM diaphragms from the wastewater treatment industry are high-pressure units that put out relatively large bubbles and resist clogging. Fine bubble ceramic and extruded diffusers are designed to de-stratify and oxygenate ponds and lakes. Bubble size and restriction are the key factors. The smaller the bubbles, the greater the surface area in contact with the water, facilitating both the movement of water as more friction is generated and gas exchange of both oxygen and carbon dioxide."

These plants were only vegged in the RDWC system for 9 days which began with all 4 lights being set at the 600 watt setting and after 4 days I went up to 750 watts per light and day 8 I went to 1,000 watts per light and left it there. The plants were topped in VEG-A under 2 x 220 watt T5's. Today is only day 40 of Flowering and I've been pushing them more than I ever have trying to see what I can get out of them at these heights. The lights are a little too close to the plants for my liking but the very top of the canopy under the hot spots are 82 degrees F even though my AC is set for 66F. I'd like to see the top of the canopy at 75F but I don't have that luxury now that the winter air is gone. Because of this I have increased my CO2 levels. My nutrient levels are maxed out at 1100PPM (0.5 NaCl scale) / 2.2 EC using General Hydroponic FloraMicro and FloraBloom at the rate of 1 part Micro to 2 parts Bloom. Nothing else is being used except pH down and Chlorine.

The bottom of the plants were pruned first at day 12 of Flower, again at about day 17. Defoliation of the top of the canopy started between Day 26 and 28 of Flowering and continues to this day. I try and take off leaves every 5 days or so. If I don't do a heavy defoliation with plants this close, I get a couple pounds of larf on top of about 6 pounds of better looking bud. This room produces over 8 pounds in a 2.5 month period.

There's 224, 6" squares contained in the SCROG and currently holds around 200 tops. The sugar trim alone of this room produces 4 ounces of potent hash oil. The buds can produce roughly 32 oz of Hash Oil which means that this room produces around 36 oz of hash oil in a 2.5 month period. An oz of Hash Oil in my market can produce between 1k-1.5k when moved in oz's. So if you're in the right market and are smart, you can still squeeze out 10k a light like the good ole days.

I would rather have to much air, so I will look into it.bI'm thinking bout building another fish room, and have already been looking at linear piston pumps. I think Alita was the company's stuff I was looking at. the one I was looking at was their biggest one, I forget the model but it was like $369. I could pop for that and it would run the grow room, and fish room. I had a fish room with 26 tanks back in 1988-89ish. I spawned African Chiclids, Killifish, Austrailian Rainbows, and a few Angels. So I am familiar with building a manifold loop from PVC, and tapping it for individual brass valves.
I also am not sure bout the soaker hose type air diffusers. I hooked up this airpump, and 2 of those diffusers in an IBC tote to see just how they worked. I think they will provide enough air for the 2totes. I am thinking with pots in place the water level will leave around 20-22gal. cap. for ea. tote, and the rez. I will of course figure this out exactly later, but am guessing 60gal. total.
I agree about the heat production, and of course every little bit o heat adds to the total.

Im sure its been covered, but whats the highest reservoir temp you can safely run with your setup?

Like I've been trying to say before, most growers in RDWC skimp on air and because of that they can't run their systems with high temps. My systems can hit 90 degrees F and I have no issues because of how much air that I use as well as my Chlorine levels via Clorox Bleach. I don't run any chillers in my systems. Currently in that room my rez temps are at 70 degrees because my AC is set to 66 although my plant canopy is 81F at it's warmest locations but I'd rather be at 75F at those levels if I had the chance. My rez temp fluctuates and is usually in the 80's in all of my systems with 0 failure rates after coming up with my air equations with the use of Chlorine.
