Thanks for your input in my thread! Last thing Im really worried about is figuring out how to stabilize PH in a res before I give hempys or hydro a shot.

As I mentioned in my thread Ive always been soil. What kind of water are you using? Tap? RO??? Do you find your PH fluctuates from day to day??

What do you do, just add more PH up or down to bring it back in check??

Nah it doesn't fluctuate for me because this is a drain to waste setup. Once I set it, it stays that way. But in a recirculating system like a RDWC or something, yes it would fluctuate, and that's what you actually want it to do. So for me, I actually take turns whipping up a batch of 5.8 then 5.9 and so on, up to 6.2-ish, then start over. I'm not that formulaic about it though. It's fairly random. But you do want to make sure the entire pH range that the plants need is provided for them, which is roughly 5.8-6.3, in hydroponics.

I do use tap water. Where I am, the pH comes out of the tap at around 8.0 usually. Then I add the Maxibloom, then I add pH down until I'm where I need to be.

I really appreciate the input! +REP

How long does your res last before you refill? I would be doing DTW as well. Exactly like what you have going on only in airpots in a DR90 with a 600. I have a 25 gallon heavy duty tote I use as a res and then a submersible pump.

Do I need a recirculating pump as well to keep the water stirred up? I thought for sure if I fill a 25 gallon res that lasts a week before refills that the PH would fluctuate?? At least I thought I saw that happening in the past.

Actually, it could happen in a res that large. It would be due to evaporation. The longer it takes to go through the res, the more the parameters have changed by the time you refill. And yes, you would want to recirculate the water inside the res, to keep it oxygenated. Mine, I only end up with about 12 gallons or so at a time, and that lasts this garden about a week. I never notice any significant fluctuations in my scenario.

Thanks a ton!

I could go to a smaller res for stabilites sake. All I really need is a 4 day window to take weekend trips here and there.

Day 65:

The plants aren't too happy with this setup, but at least I'll get something out of them. They are really foxtaily, and airy. Those aren't necessarily bad things, but I didn't really provide the best sativa environment. In retrospect I suppose I should have expected it, but I always thought SSH was one of those "sativas that grow like indicas." So I'm going to grow her out again, under a 1000w metal halide, in the grow room with environmental controls and stuff. And I'll tailor her nutrient solution just for her instead of using the communal nutrients. But I won't call this a failure or anything. It's just not a grow I'm particularly proud of or anything.

At least it allows me to finally sample her high for the first time!

Some bud shots. You can really see the stretchy quality of these buds... I think metal halide would help that out a little:

not the first time ive seen her foxtail like that though ///what do you caused the airy quality to them were your temps high ?

Not according to the thermometer, so that's what I don't get. It reads 83F (28C) as the hottest it gets in there. Most of my plants, especially a sativa I would think, don't seem to mind. I'm starting to wonder if it's because it's an old bulb... Would that do it? Do old bulbs cause problems like this, anyone know?

True I've thought about that. I just need to run her again to be sure. And no I don't use pk boosters.

Yep. There have been times here and there when I would try adding this or that and see if it made a difference, and I never found any. That was always in hydro though. It makes me wonder if I should try those things again now that I'm growing in coco? I would like to try humates again, and possibly molasses. On the subject of pk boosters though... I'm on the fence about their usefulness. I've definitely experienced larger buds that are rock hard from using them, but it always seemed to mess with the end product. I didn't like how the buds smoked, or tasted. It definitely affected the flush. But this was just my experience.. I know many people like them, so I just chalk it up as personal preference.

But I really should start experimenting with some other additives again. :tiphat:

yea I hear you I use the moab , the shit has mad high #'s lol I just add a pinch it seems to really harden up the buds never really noticed any difference in taste ,I did notice a difference though after not flushing with the molasses, seem to lack something sorta idk...Well if you find out that the foxtailing and the airiness end up being a trait maybe the pk would tighten her up a lil :dunno:

Sorry for the crappy pic. Google ruined the camera app with its latest update, and the white balance settings have been removed. This is the best one i could get. Day 70:

I switched the light cycle to 11/13, to help ripen the buds from here on out. Yes they are bulky, but they look like palm trees, with all the foxtailing, lol.
