SmottPoker's 150w hps grow -soil

How's it going guys, this is my first journal but I've been on this site for years and have been growing for a few years now too.

I'll get some pics up soon but for now my setup is as follows:

150 watt mini sunburst hood and ballast combo
2x2x5 tent
4 inch active air inline fan
4 1 gallons pots
Fox farm ocean Forrest
#3 chunky perlite
General organics nutes (lazy, don't have a ph meter handy and GO NUTES don't need to be PH'd so..haha)

Genetics will be:

2 Blue Dream's
1 Platinum Cookie <---Girl Scout cross of some kind
1 Skywalker OG ( came from a dispensary so who knows..)

This is my second 150w run, I was very happy with my first I did 14 Larry og in Dixie cups sog style and pulled about 64g, and I intitially started flowering with a 125w CFL for the first 3 weeks. So I'm hoping to do as good or better than that this time around. I figure 20-25g per plant would be idea.

I know this light only penetrates about a foot so I don't want to veg these plants for too long but just long enough to get a nice solid root mass down in the container.

Today is day 4 since their transplant into 1 gallon pots so I should be seeing some good growth any day now.

The 2 blues looked a little sad in the back cuz their cube dried out to quickly in the moist soil..

I always read all the journals and it sounds fun to post one of my grows all the way throw so thanks for checking it out!

Looking good! Are you going to train them or let them grow naturally?

Thanks guys, you know..I would like to scrog it but I feel like it might be a pain with the soil. So I'm going to wait until I go DWC for that.

For now I will top maybe once or twice and get them going and then started focusing on the veg for the next round.

For the most part I'm just trying to wait long enough to get a couple cuts from the
Skywalker OG in case the genetics are true and worth keeping.

Looks like a nice little setup and good plan for the FFOF+perlite and the GO nutes are pretty decent from what I have seen and heard.

Ill be watching this.

Yeah I dig the extra perlite with the FFOF, that way I can squeeze a couple more waterings in.

Oh man Bueno, I was checking out your journal man and those ladies look real nice man!
Beautiful canopy..lol

And Blynx! Your actually one of the people that inspired me to do a micro garden! Thanks for that man I appreciate it!

Just another update, probably too soon but hey..lol

No water yet, hopefully tomorrow.

Starting to see a little new growth****4th day after transplant <---I would like to speed this up

They sat out in the sun for 5-6 hours. *figure the sun kills the 150w any day of the week so I'm hoping to speed up veg this way* (good old sunny California)

Tent is toooo HOT ambient temps are between 74-78 and I'm at about 85-95 inside...
Last run I was able to keep it at about 80-85 inside but it was winter...

Going to buy flange for mini sunburst to hook up duct from exhaust fan. Gonna skip the glass for now and just hope it sucks enough heat straight upwards and also still replenish the air in the tent.

Inline duct booster would be good too for extra intake...?

Gonna mighty wash them tomorrow, just found a couple suckers running around so we will need to nip that right quick and in a hurry...as in I should of done it today but you know how that goes...lol

Looks like my lady in the back left might actually be drying out already...

Get a hyperfan. They are as big as a booster and as quiet but I shit you not they will levitate your shit like a speeder bike. I am saving up for one to replace my hurricane.

HVAC rules say bigger intake than exhaust.

SmottPoker,

Looking good bro!!! I run a very similar set up to you and it definitely keeps me in a full time supply of smoke! Once my ambient temps hit 75F I either switch out my 150w hps for a led, shut down, or just switch to veg mode and keep the plants chugging along until ambient is back below 75F (Fall for me).

I would suggest you get some 3 gallon growbags (4 of them fit perfectly in 2'x2') and transplant into those if you have the option. The more root space the better IMO, also some LST will go a long way towards upping your yield! Best of luck

Thanks Bart. I'll defiantly look that hyper fan up.
I'm always up for new ideas.

Thanks for the advice man. I definitely agree
"MORE ROOT, MORE FRUIT!"
My take on the 3 gallon bags though is that I won't really need that much root space to get the 16-25g per plant I'm hoping for. I have a bigger room that I'm able to get about 28-35g per 1 gallon bag from little ladies just sitting on the outside extra row area.

Plus I would have to veg quite a while to really root them out and be able to water them on a nice twice a week schedule..I'd imagine anyway, seems like the little 150 wouldn't dry something that big out too fast without the help of a super bomb root system.
Have you done the 3 gallons under the 150's? I'm curious how it worked out because I would definetly use the 3's if they work that much better.

I could be totally wrong though on the 1 gallons...I haven't done them in the small room so...I did about 5g per Dixie cup last run.

I do want to get some LST going of some kind, dunno what I'm going to do yet though. I've always just topped multiple times and used stakes in my big room. It has always worked out very well we average about .9g's per watt.

Since I don't have any height restrictions and I have better genetics and pheno's in the works for next run I might just strip them up take a cut from the sky walker and then go dark for 35hrs and start flowering.

I do want to LST more once I start doing DWC and get the scrod net in there.

I started out a long time ago growing in DWC under a 150w, in a hollowed out dresser, SCROG style, and I regularly got 3.5 to 4 ounces growing Bubblegum. It's a fantastic light, and combined with SCROG and DWC it really produces!

So I would say do whatever it takes to get into a DWC situation instead of soil. Because it certainly is true that more roots equals more fruits, and the way to do that in soil means using larger pots and vegging longer.

Looking good so far, man, keep it up.

Yes I do four 3 gallons in a 2'x2' tent under the 150 hps... I run recycled organic soil, so the extra root space is optimal plus its just plain easy!!!

I usually water twice a week, no pH adjustments or mixing nutes!!! Take into account that I am usually running from seed. If I were running clones I would probably do a shorter veg with about 9-16 plants in 1 gallon growbags. Hope that helps :tiphat:

Nice man! well damn now you got me all pumped again to do the DWC! Do you remember what size rez you were using? And did you do single plants in a rez or did you do multiple plants all in one rez?

In my mind I pictured it doing HygroHybrid style 1 Plant in SCROG under the 150

Yeah it was all done in Rubbermaid tubs. I wanna say they were generally in the 8 to 10 gallon range, meaning that's how much water I put in there, not that they were that small. I would generally end up keeping them only filled about halfway up throughout most of the grow. But I did several clones all in one tub, with holes cut in the lid, and net cups in the holes. I generally did about 2 to 4 plants at a time, depending on starting size of clones and how quickly they were being thrown into flower.

DWC is awesome, and super fast, but I always had issues with the water temperature. I live in a warm climate. But for people who can keep the water temperature down below the low 70s, DWC is the shit.
