Bad Results with EZ Cloner

I need some help with this lil problem I have. So I was recently gifted an EZ cloner and with all the great things I have heard about them I figured I would use it. I had a heck of a time cleaning the old manifold but I figured it would be worth it. I recently cut a batch of clones and because I had so many I figured I would root them two different ways. 1 batch in the EZ cloner and the rest I would do in Rapid Rooters. The Cuttings that were in the RR's were full of roots after 14 days. 27 good ones and only 5 bad ones. The cuttings in the EZ cloner all showed white nubs after about 5-7 days but the roots have not really sprouted since and are in no way as vigorous as the others in RR. So what's the difference and why did the EZ cloner let me down. I had a heat mat under my RR's but I did not have any source of heat for the EZ cloner. I used Olivia's cloning solution for the RR's and I used Clonex cloning solution for the EZ cloner. Clonex rooting gel was used for both. Why did the EZ cloner not perform well? Did the lower temp really have that big of an effect? Why did the cuttings in the EZ cloner show white nubs after 5 days but then not show vigorous root growth? I was running the EZ cloner 24hrs nonstop. Should that be set up on a timer for on/off cycling?

Thanks All

Did you clean the cloner with hot soap and water, then run the unit with Hot bleach water for 30-60min, drain, rinse, and run with fresh cool water for 20-30 min, drain and then fill with clonex water solution before use?

Thats what I do and I have had every excloner size they make, always get 99% sucess only one batch in 5 yrs came out bad, it was becuase I didnt clean the machine properly as stated in the directions and posted above.

1C bleach for 30 site
2C for 60 site
3 C for 120 site

Always running cloner 24hrs a day ph-5.6 to 6.0 use good source of water not well water or bad tap water. Good luck

Look up Cyanobacteria in search and look for a thread by an amazing poster named Snype. This might help.

Undeveoped roots( nubs) need heat to grow, avoid clonex shit as creates bacteria in time, do again and compare, read the ezy cloner manual follow advice and keep it clean

Are you speaking of Clonex gel or their rooting solution?

I don't have an EZ cloner manual or any clone box manual

I spent a LOT of time cleaning the EZ cloner. I never thought about adjusting the PH

I use pure tap water and .5ml per gallon chlorine bleach, no ph adjustments. once I get roots I transplant, if I let them sit they do like you say and don't really explode, i'll get a few long strings and that's it but they do fine once transplanted. as far as cleaning I run hot bleach water in mine for a few hours then rinse it with cool, fill and wait but I'm lazy. if I had to do all that scrubbing I'd go back to rooters

Running bleach and hot water is the important part to cleaning the machine before use, it's in the directions. Do as I stated above for cleaning purposes, if you still have problems look up ewc tea, lots of people say it helps a lot in cloners, although I have never put it in my ezcloners

if you google "Ez cloner experiences and breakthroughs" there is a great article by poindextrous that helped me go from 0% to 100% success in my diy cloner! seriously great article check it out and let me know what you think! i would put up a link but i dont have a clue how to do that

I have used the cloner (60 site) countless times with at least 98% success rate...

I fill the water up to the bottom of the manifold, regular tap water. I usually try to let it run for 24 hrs before I use it, but sometimes I'm lazy, but honestly it's never made a difference.

I did modify my cloner slightly though, I added a cheap $20 air pump, and a little hose hoop I made with some holes poked in it.

I use the clonex purple goop gel and I run it under a 4 bulb 2 foot T5 light. Clones love T5's and dislike HID lights in general if I'm not mistaken.. I have also done runs of different amounts, sometimes the full 60, but sometimes 20\40 at a time too. Never really any problems.

After the cuttings are ready and I'm done with the cloner I rinse it out with fresh water then re fill it and run it overnight with about 2 tablespoons of res cleaner. Then I rinse it out again, let it air dry, then put it away in it's box. Always make sure there's zero water in the manifold before putting it away, and rinse your pucks off good too. Once in a while I'll wash it out with some dish soap, just the rest though.

I feel like a big part of my success is not screwing with it. Leave the light about 4-5 inches above the clones, temp stays about 70 in my veg area, that's fine. I don't open the box or pop out pucks till at least 7 days. Don't open it, just leave it be. Usually after 7 days there's some little roots, around day 9 or 10 they're ready for cups.

It was the temps. Too cold. My rez was too cold and wouldnt root for 14 days. I warmed it up and they exploded.
If the water is too cold, they will get bumbs and wont root. The water in the rez needs to be at 70*-75*degrees.
The PH needs to be at 5.8 - 6.0. You'll get roots everytime!
Dont be shy and take small cuts. No need. Use healthy, big, vigorous branches. They root just as fast.
Plus there isnt any "stall" time after the T/P. They will continue to grow in veg, even while in the cloner. Love this thing!
Heres a GrapeApe x OGKush clone~

Low light is best for rooting. IME planting cuts with only root nubs works fine. Letting the roots grow long like the pics above is a waste of time and complicates transplanting except maybe in DWC or some other hydro methods. For soil/soiless and coco, 1" roots work best. Good luck. -granger

Not when your growing SOG in 2gln pots with 7 days veg time....
Ide like to see your little plants that took the whole wk growing roots rather than a thick stem and node sites.
Long roots = More Fruits and quicker harvests.

I'm having a issue with my ez cloner as well. I've always had 100%succes till now. I did not clean it after my last run an I'm using tap water. So I'm gonna assume its dirty. I've never had any issues till now. Also my veg area has been dipping into the 60s do to the 0 degree weather in pa.i have them in a warmer new veg area that I can regulate perfectly so I'll clean he out an try again. I'll keep all posted

Overgrow,
Don't get insulted. Mine are growing roots in the medium while yours are growing in the cloner. -granger

I had issues with the ez cloner at first too. The temps were low and I was using tap water.

One produced roots that grew very slow. The others all died.

Since, I have moved the cloner into a closet that stays in the mid 70's all the time and switched to RO water. 90% success rate, even with 12" clones. Under 4' t8 floros. Always start with fresh water. After a few days, add a few tsp's of GO's calmg. Roots will be there soon.

You have to make sure you are cleaning or replacing the misters each and every time. Check their coverage of the rooting zone by sticking your finger in each hole with the unit on. You'd be surprised how much shit can get in those things and how little shit it takes to mess up their spray pattern. Very important! One clogged sprayer can cost you a few cuts.

I used to use the cubes but it was a huge hassle and didn't really give me the greatest results. With the EZ Cloner I don't mist at all. 90% of the leaves stay healthy. 9 - 10 days is all it's taken me since I've gotten it dialed in.

Don't give up! Great units, just have to keep them running optimally.

No way! The EZ-CLONER will outdo any cloning method on the planet.
Its cloning on triple speed!
It would take 2 weeks in veg, for your clones to look like mine, right outa the cloner.
The EZC produces the healthiest, fastest growing clones.
Once you try Aero, you will never go back to r/w plugs. 7 days w/ full root sytems.
The cuts continue to grow while rooting. They hardly stall.
