Trimming branches in flower? (Panama)

Hiya. I got 2 panamas 15 days in to flower right now and i was wondering how this plant reacts to branch trimming in flower?

I did top both my plants in veg and have tied them down and i am very happy with the results but...always a but... both plants have a lot of smaller branches that dont reach up to the canopy and will just produce small popcorn buds at the end.

Is it ok to trim theese away even tho we are in flower now?

Justin

yes these are sometimes referred to as "suckers" or "floor weed". they usually just suck energy that could go into the growth and development of the tops. dont produce much more than a larfy popcorn crap that ud prolly not wanna trim n just throw in with the rest of the trim pile. in large grows they will sometimes produce an alright sized cola worth trimming, but they lik to b laying down in the dirt if its a producer.

trim all the lowers that arent producing much, and u will see the energy go right into making bigger cola's :)

Everything that he said but let me add that you will want to trim these off in installments. At least two different rounds 3-5 days apart. This will prevent unnecessary shock to the plant. You can also take the best cuts of this lower larf stuff and make clones. They will probably take longer to root if you do but they will work.

Thanks you both! But if i want a little chock to the plant so it dosenst stretch tooo much then i can take it all in one go?

Clones you say...hmm...that would be i first then. Will see if i got room for clones some where in my house...lol...got plants all over the place right now.

Thanks again both you guys

its gunna suck real bad revegging clones that hav been in 12/12 for over 2 weeks. iv had a couple of my clones see 12hrs just once before they wer chopped n cloned n they frustrate me having to take a bit extra to situate themselves when the others go great from 18/6 n take off!

Hi Justinsane,

Cannabliss420 really have provided a good answer to your question, you can trim the less vigorous lower stems that are not receiving intense light to improve the yield and flowering in the tops and branches receiving intense light. Good luck!

High Dub!

Yeah i trusted the guys in this thread and went a head and trimmed both my panamas and both my OE today.

Hey dub... the flowering time for OE says 8-10 weeks...is that from flip to 12/12 or from first sign of white hair?

Lovely plants

It can be done and when its done right the results can be amazing dude. check this out https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=224569

Yeah, it will work but it can be a little slow happening. That is what I did with my last round of cuts and they all did that super/monstercropping thing if that's what your link is. Check this girl out.

The #2 plant is the one furthest from me in the picture and the two in others in the picture is the same story. Little clones that turn into bush shrubs with multiple tops.

Don't mind if I chime in here again too but I will always count on running mine at least a week long than they advertise or at least the latter end of what they advertise. For instance, they say 8-10 week strain then go ahead and count on at least running 10 weeks. My case will be different most likely compared to somebody who is running hydro or aero though because I grow in soil, just something to consider.

Now that some nice little plants man, i will try cloning next run. And i will do flowering clones because i dont have any spare space for a mother plant.

And im growing in coco but was just wondering when Dubi starts the "count" when growing indoors.

Some say from the day you flip your lights to 12/12 and some say start counting when you see some white hairs...dosent really matter tho...plant will be ready when its ready but its just fun to have a little better idea of when shes ready :)

Justin

i think it depends on if your growing Outdoors or Indoors. if u grow from a controlled indoor environment, then of course its from 12/12 flip. but when growing outdoors, some growers cant tell if ther plant has started flowered yet, so they start counting from when they know its flowering (seeing the white hairs)

Hi Vivianna,
i'm quite new to this but can at least give you a non sativa-related general answer.
most people i know do trim before drying, because they worry that they may lose more resin the other way. some strains lose a lot of keif when beeing handled dry, others don't.
so i can imagine that there are strains where it doesn't matter that much.
I personally prefer to do it directly when harvesting, because what's done is done :)

Not sure if evidence exists supporting the "all-at-once pruning slows stretch more than incremental, more gradual pruning" hypothesis. Would be an interesting experiment best done with clones.

I'd suggest that the plant's stress hormone levels will reach far greater peak levels if all of the undesirable vampire shoots are removed at the same time whereas a gradual method suggested by the experienced folks in this thread would result in a much lower max of stress hormones that would disrupt optimal fattening of the sticky-icky colas you want the plant to focus on.

I am a fan of not chopping or removing leaves once I see pistils. I have grow panama and tried to train it a few ways. What works best is growing in the sweet spot of my light. I grow plants to stay under the light. If a plant has a dominant stem, chop it so the popcorn can turn into corn cobs under the light.

warcraft74 - I don't keep track, but there were green panamas that went longer. I'd guess 12-14 weeks? Only seen it a couple of times. Flushing and light intensity bring it out.
