Rightio. No rain for the girls, no water for 20 days. Only one of them was looking in really bad shape (C99):

Couple of the others, C99s and Satoris. Pots are 550mm diameter.

Hey saibai,
nice to see your out in the field ,
whats that bark stuff on the top of the pots??

they all look to be lacking nitrogen ,
give them a shot of powerfeed ,
should stop that yellowing and allow some new fresh growth ...

I totally dig the need for mulch in yr situation but that 'bark stuff' is probably stealing much N from yr pots each time there is rain or you water. can you substitute Lucerne hay?

Lucerne's bound to be expensive cos of the current eastern seaboard drought ... but Bummings might have compressed stuff at a national price ...

Hey fellas, good to see you.
I never thought that the bark could be affecting the amount of N that gets to the girls...I can't remember what type of bark it is, just thought it would be good for moisture retention.

There probably wasn't enough N in the initial soil mix as well, and I've only added extra N in the form of Blood & Bone, just sprinkled some on the bark and watered in.

I might be able to get to them next week, I'll give em some. Probably won't worry about changing the mulch medium at this stage in this grow, but will see what other options there are for next season - will check out availability of Lucerne hay in my area, Sat.

I was thinking that there may have been the minerals that the plant needed in the soil, but that due to no water/rain at all, there was nothing to transport the nutes from the roots up into the stem, etc...

Either way, I'm pretty happy so far considering the gross neglect (not over till the fat lady sings though), but if I can do another grow at the same site next season, I've got to come up with a better auto-watering system than just pray for rain/sporadic water runs.

This may destroy any credibility I might have had, but the C99 bud my mate brought back is actually decent, to tell the truth. Sweetish smell, not really sweet taste though. Fun high, but I have had a very low tolerance ever since I took a year break from smoking a few years ago. I'm lucky in that I'm the cannabis equivalent of a "two-pot-screamer" still.
Don't really want to build up a tolerance again. :)

Dear Mr BatCave ... listen, I 'm not on Saibai's side here ... he's a big boy now and I 'm sure he can look after himself. so I speak for myself when saying ...

it seems to me you must have been having a bad moment or two when you wrote about all or nothing at all because the only way that makes sense to me is the Middle Way ... the way of compromise, the way of acting from necessity, the way of doing the best one can with what one's got at the time ... which is what I see Saibai is doing with his plants.

as a guerrilla grower of some standing I see Saibai's trip is not all about growing plants. it is also about the great outdoors, nature and moving with stealth in that environment. it is for me an EXCITING thing to do because it is dangerous. it is the growers wits against Authority. I like it even tho I can't necessarily control every aspect of the grow.

and no matter how one grows it is always nicest to smoke best grade plants ...

hope yr growing goes well, I just thought I'd say all that ... Cheers!

Yeah, pretty much.

It's bit of a shame I can't give this outdoor round of girls the attention to allow them to grow to their full potential...but whatever I get will be better than nothing at all (for me, anyway).

I get where you're coming from though, BatCave.

Well, got to see the girls for the first time in what, 2 months?
Only 5 full-size ones left, 3 C99s and 2 Satori. One or two other tiny ones, a Cheese x Black Domina and a Satori I think.

Checked the trichs, although I could tell the Satoris were not ready just by the naked eye.
The C99s, however, had rock hard buds and I was hard pressed finding any trichs that weren't amber. I also couldn't guarantee when I could go out to see them next - they are about 3 1/2 hours away from where I live, and I have a hard time getting away, as you can probably guess by how long between checks it is...so choppity chop!

I also took an upper branch or two from the Satoris, just in case I couldn't get out there again. Spotted a seed or two, not a bad thing at all...I'll be storing those for another grow, although I doubt I can grow at the same place again next season, but who knows what the future holds? :)

ps. Pics? Got one or two crappy ones when I was out there, might be able to post soon. If not, got the buds drying in a safe location, should be able to take some pics tomorrow.

Sorry for the hiatus fellas, couldn't access icmag for a while there.

Coupla random buds, some of the others look better than these, but a fair indication.

Satori:

C99

So...not gonna win any beauty competitions, but I'm happy enough. Been sayin it all the while but, "given the circumstances".:huggg:

Just on 6oz fully dried, with about another 2oz or so of Satori still to be picked, if possible. Again, not winning any prizes for yield, but yadda yadda yadda...you get it.

Slowly getting through my current stash and letting these cure in the jars before doing any serious smoke tests. I will say, however that the little Black Domina x Cheese smells extremely sexual and is potent. Got a couple of seeds (pollenated by the Satori male that was right next to it) as well - bonus.

So there ya go. Closure.

The Magic Flight Launch Box I ordered a while ago should arrive from the states this week, too. Looking forward to tasting some nice flavours through that baby.

Came home to see the Launch Box had arrived. :tiphat:

Had only used one once before, but just christened the trench with some BD x Cheese. The finishing grinder fits perfectly onto the launch box and works more like a cheese grater than a grinder, but it produces a very fine consistency of bud - much finer than from any traditional grinders I've used, more like from a long spin in a mullomatic.

(Mobile phone pics)

I got 2 good vapes before I kept the battery in too long on the 3rd and the (overly?)dry weed started to combust. :p
Won't take long to get used to it though, I remember it being pretty easy to get the hang of the first time I used it.

picture.php

Weed tastes just as good as I remember it, too. Will keep experimenting to get different types of effects and tastes.

The Aurora Indica plant and trim from the Satoris and C99s got made into cannabutter for yummy brownies.
Still got 2 partial plants (Satori) outside, should have bulked up from the "insurance" buds harvested around 3 weeks ago, might be able to get to them, but little to no rain in that area I believe. Then again, Satoris are resilient mothertruckers.

Would like to post more/better bud pics but been hard to get time to access the main stash with the digital camera.

hallo from Bulgaria!:) i'm just on visit:)Why you using pots in this case?i guess it would be better if they were directly into the ground,i mean for the moisture you want to keep but i guess you have some reason to do that. With lots of mulch if it is too hot you can have better result with same care.Saying that because i grow the same way,i cant go see my plants more than...once on two weeks. In fact this year i haven't seen them since i planted them but i hope they are alive. In my case here they are may be drown, too much rain:(on guerilla style God knows,so if you have something you have to be happy!!!;) Have 3 plants(i hope i still have them)150km far from me,they will grow on their own.i pick some fast strains so they can have better chance, conditions are not so bad...

Thanks for dropping by! :gday:

I used pots because I needed to keep the option of being able to move them. After germing and a very short early veg near my house, they were moved ahead of plan to the countryside over 200km from where I live.
I only got to see them personally about 3 times total after that for the whole season. Pretty much guerilla set-and-forget, although a friend went to check once or twice when it hadn't rained out there for too long and I couldn't make it. He knows pretty much nothing about growing, though (not knocking him or anything).

They would have done a lot better with some kind of auto-watering system - not much rain. I had the opposite of your problem. :)

Mandala bred Satori tough though!

in my humble opinion (HA HA HA!) those are GOOD BUDS for fairly neglected outdoors during a drought. what happened when it rained? we got 8 inches in one go. was pretty wet and mouldy here for a while. had to rush harvest.
anyway, good onyer Cobber and happy smoking ... I mean vaping ...

Cheers Sat! 8 inches is crazy, I was checking the govvy rainfall in the area, only got decent rain once or twice, no signs of mould but some weird discolouring of the stems on some plants.
Did lose a bit due to dead buds...brown and dry. I did give em some neem but not regularly enough to make a real difference.
Even with losing some, and giving a fair whack away, it'll last me ages. Stoked to have me favourite smake (Satori) again too! And a good amount of seeds, not too many though...the one Satori male pollenated C99, Sat and the BD x C.
Would have liked to have harvested the Aurora too, could only make brownies with the young, dead buds....not tough enough! :)

i wanted to ask you don't you have those wilds there, how do you know the seeds are only between Satory and the others? Here,if you have seeds on your outdoor plants better don't use them, they are crap:)If someone give you seeds from eastern Europe(i'm not sure about western)you better ask if they were made outdoors. And if they are better don't use them, even if the mother is really fine next generation is almost 100 shit!i made that mistake twice:)Our wilds are really shitty, only looking good and flowering fast but no THC at all:)And we always have seeds on our plants, less or more(depend on the place you choose).
