who's land again?

you claim it's our land and we as taxpayers deserve his remittance.

remember ... 'we the people'... we own that land, right?

then it is also his land...get it?

as if you're likely to see any monies paid in as taxes.

Its not about individuals getting paid off taxes what an idiotic thing to say.
Its about big business people who dont pay em an take advantage and use public property as if it were personal.
Whats so confusing?

You obviously need to read more about what this whole thing was about. They didn't have "free use" of the land - they bought grazing rights. The BLM, which was originally formed to help the ranchers, have changed their own mandate and decided that the land could be more profitable to them with other uses. They tried to shrink his purchased allotment down to a level that wouldn't support his business after a 100+ years. In his mind, paying their fee would recognize that they had the power to shrink his business. The BLM has trumped up the bullshit about the tortoise to justify taking the land, and then decided to kill off the tortoises when their budget shrank. Now it is becoming evident that there are other motives to get him off the land, in the best tradition of crooked Nevada politics. This is what you are supporting.

Oh, and you also might want to look into the profit margins in the cattle business. A family ranch with a 1000 head of cattle isn't exactly what I would call "big business".

Entirely aside from the legality of things and what is right or wrong, the government response has been entirely inappropriate. They have shut down the area, shut down cell towers, made it a "no fly" zone, confined protesters to specific areas and then closed them, thumped the hell out of some people, killed a bunch of cattle and starved newborn calves by separating them from their mothers. They intended to spend $3.3 million dollars to mitigate a loss of $340,000 in fees while doing some magic math to trump up the numbers. Again, this is what you are supporting.

He had been paying his grazing allotment fees up until the BLM revoked his permit and told him to get his cattle off the land. Why was his grazing allotment permit revoked? Because of a tortoise.

Now why was the government handing out grazing allotment permits at all? Because everyone wants cheap beef. This was the way the government was subsidizing ranching. So ranchers would buy property adjacent to the grazing allotments to graze their cattle and pay a small fee to the government for land that was sitting fallow. Win win for everyone. The biggest expense in cattle is grazing land and the government was more than willing to allow these ranchers to use this land for a fee.

Now in steps the BLM and tells slews of ranchers they can not use the land any longer due to a posssible endangerment to a tortoise. Most these ranchers private land therefore would not support these large herds. They were forced to either go out of business or incur additional expenses of moving operations. During this tortoise fiasco the BLM had very shady practices in alerting ranchers of the impending demise of the grazing allotments.

Bundy is just the last hold out in the tortoise fiasco. He is not trying to get over on anyone. He is merely fighting for his livelihood. Plus if the tortoise protection program doesn't get the ranchers the Great Sage Grouse surely will. Oh and for those of you that live in northern Cali you may want to see how precious this prairie chicken is to the government if you own property.

The only people stealing is the US government.

oh?
family rancher does not mean 'big business'.

General Electric pays NO taxes, but this guy owes big time? I don't see you "patriots" suggesting they pay up.

maybe his million dollars would somehow make you feel it reduced the $$$18 TRILLION deficit the government produced...

oh yeah, this remote desert scrub cannot support tortoises yet alone one cow per 1000 acres so let's sell it to business to develop.

remember LA water grab Owens valley? no? google it...same same here. (MULROY was the name of the head of that water district too, what coincidence).

good luck Bundy Family.

I was reading that Harry Reid's son is managing a deal with the Chinese to use the land to install a 4 billion solar panel project out there. They were charging high grazing fees to try to force the ranchers out of business. Therefore Reid's son would make millions off the deal. I don't even know if it's true.

Pardon me if it's been discussed here already, I haven't read through the entire thread.

Oh, I don't know Captain, I can't really agree with all of that. He is far more crooked then the rest of those pricks, that's how he got to be leader of the pack. After serving his apprenticeship doing bent politics with the Nevada Gaming Commission, he moved up to the big time and started showing the boys how it should be done. He was nearly broke when first elected to Congress and now has a net worth estimated to be up to $10 million. When questioned about this, he said that he had "invested well". No shit.

I can agree with most of what you said here... except that I don't believe that Reid is any more crooked than the rest of the DC crowd.

Bundy seems to fit in nicely with that bunch. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he had followed Reid into politics. lol

Yes the land was removed from the grazing program to save the turtle. He said fuck you and kept grazing. Up until then he paid his fees. They won't take fees for grazing on land you aren't allowed to graze on.
Huge;
The land was apparently withdrawn from the grazing lease program in 1993? Or am I missing something else here?

I'm trying to understand the situation. Not wanting to be unreasonably biased.

However it would seem that the only way to be on the Bundy side of the affair is to grant him the 'right' to takeover Public Lands for his own benefit?

NOT willing to do that.

Seems like showing force to the feds works. They are all packing up. They are giving him his cows back and he now has permission to graze there.

I wish to apologize to rives for including him when I call y'all teabaggers. I humbly apologize for hurting your feelings when you called me the "L" word. Happy rives? I'm a man of my word. Your still totally wrong about bundy though. He owes us over a million and I want cash or the family ranch. He's a bead beat who uses our land for his personal profit.

Something doesn´t sound right in here.
At the same time that the Feds are trying to save the Desert Tortoise, the Desert Tortoise Conservation Center, with a budget of 1mil $ of tax payers money, is planning to euthanize hundreds of the critters...wtf?!
Of course that they invoke financial issues mainly the low income coming from the fees charged to the farmers. That doesn´t surprises me because it were those fees one the main cause to put most of the farmers out of work. And my guess is those were the only ones paying those fees.
This is just too confused for me, but that´s expected i´m just one uneducated foreigner.

Aren't all extortion/protection rackets a big waste of money seeing as how people know how to spend their own money they earn from being productive members of society, and they also know how protect themselves best.

Is taxation theft?
