BHOgart Extractor Thread

I have to say i bought a reftec diablo based on rb's recommendation, and like it way more than the appion. Its much quieter and has ptfe seals. They don't ship as fast as the appions tho.

@mendo420

is the sight glass supposed to fill up like that? should the oil recovery tank accept that much solvent without it filling up to the sight glass?

how long does your first run take? from what i've been seeing the first shower takes much longer to get to the sight glass than subsequent runs...is that the same for you?

@chameleonsc i only run a one lb unit but i get that in my sight glass often times usually only when running with ntane for some reason.

No. It's positive pressure in the lower tank that fills the sight glass.
It doesn't always happen.

Has any one run the Bhogart as a top flood and dump system? My plan is to add a gas pressure vent from the top of cylinder to the collection pot, a valve above the sight glass. After a top flood I will shower once and recover.

That leads me to another question... The collection pot is about 1350 cubic inches. How many cubic inches of extraction cylinder can be flooded and safely recovered from the collection pot without having it bubble into the appion?

yes it should I have a filter installed in the collection pot.

have not timed the run. But i would agree with you the first shower takes longer than others (a little heat helps).

It takes a while for the butane to make it threw the column. I'm running bout 19# of butane threw the column. :dance013:

Awesome, thanks Kcar and Mendo420! I also run a 5 micron screen at the inlet of my collection pot that causes this back pressure that makes the solvent raise to the sight glass I believe.
As I mentioned in a previous post Bhogart sent me a 3"x 36" column for my machine and my collection vessel is only 6"x6", so i got 3"x18" spools that work great with the collection pot and volume of butane I'm working with. I'm now gathering the parts from Glacier to build my own based on bhogarts design using the 3"x36" spool on a 10"x12" collection vessel that could also hold a 4" x 36" spool, and running a #50 recovery tank. Instead of the cheesy refigeration lines they sent I'm switching all the lines on both machines to stainless steel. Bhogart redid there website, looks a little better, there building some big units, I'd like to see this chomper stomper series in action.

I love the sight glass too. but I have only once had the sight glass filled up with butane like you do in your images. is that the way it happens for you each time you run it? if so can you please explain it to me because i can't repeat it and I can't figure it out either. but, still getting very nice quality end product.

It fills up like that on the first dump with the recovery unit off for me. I would not say a full sight glass is the goal here.

Sounds like i'm doing it right.

although i do have a question about running the bhogart in shower recovery shower. i have been taking it down to -15 in between recovery and next shower. is this not right? I keep seeing to bring it down to 0 and then shower again.
am not getting everything by doing this or am i getting more. i know that my recovery times are long and i'm thinking that i maybe should only going down to "0" then running another shower.

also with the 1 lb'er how do you run in cont. mode.
do you load bhogart with all the butane then bring the pressure on the red side to 100.
do you have recovery tank shut off at this point? direction are not clear on the cont. shower to me. can someone please explain it for me.

thanks so much ,

DK

For continuous shower flip recovery tank upside down and build pressure on right side gauge to 100psi, find where it stays steady there when all the tane is out of your recovery tank. It doesn't matter whether you close the valve to the recovery tank or not at this point it is already being bypassed by the system until recovery. I havn't found it worth it too shower for any amount of time longer than 10 minutes, it seems most desirables are pulled out quickly in the first pass, same goes for running as a shower recovery shower on the same column.

BHOgart hooked me up!

BHOgart hooked me up!

So when I ordered my bhogart I was told that I would get a free clear lid for vacuum purging and that never happened. I expressed my anger towards them maybe a little too hard and they responded by sending me a free 1 lbs water jacket! I am very impressed and I am super excited to use it! I will be documenting and posting pics soon. I was hoping to have used it by now but my pump broke so I have to rebuild it. BHOgart all the way!
