Democrats' great green hope? Americans only want to vote for marijuana.

Things are changing rapidly. Decriminalization is almost a certainty now. It's just a matter of time, IMO.

"Things are not looking too good for Democrats in the upcoming 2014 midterm elections, and a new George Washington University Battleground poll is, on the surface, more bad news. The respondents were roughly evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, but 64 percent of GOP voters said they are "extremely likely" to vote in November, versus 57 percent of Democrats. President Obama's 44 percent approval rating won't help the Democrats, and a daunting 73 percent said their personal economic situation has stayed the same or gotten worse over the past four years.

But there is one silver lining for Democrats: Marijuana. While 82 percent of respondents disapprove of Congress — with both parties "universally despised," according to Democratic pollster Celinda Lake — 73 percent support medical marijuana in their states, 53 percent back decriminalizing pot, and most importantly, 68 percent said they are more likely to go to the polls if marijuana is on the ballot. Voters in both parties are in favor of looser marijuana laws, but the highest levels of motivation are among younger, single people — a group that skews Democratic.

"We are very excited about the marijuana numbers in this poll, not only for personal consumption to get through this election, but [also] in terms of turnout," says Lake."

I wouldn't vote for a democrat even if they gave me a free ounce.

With all of the problems in this world anyone that would vote strictly based on weed policy needs their head examined.

Fwiw I wouldn't get off my ass to vote for most republicans either.

Honestly I think they will legalize...so they can use that little checkbox on your firearm check apps regarding using MJ or other drugs etc.

Sorry no CCW for you....and when y'all get around to being forced to get "permits"...well potheads need not apply....

That is my Tinfoil hat theory....

I sure hope you're right. I've been supporting this effort for more than 40 years. Half the time I figure I'll be pushin daisies up before the feds get their head out of their...

The really fucked up thing that most Americans don't even realize is that without campaign finance reform we'll never get a leader with the people's best interest in office at any level. The last good president we had was FDR and they made sure that shit would never happen again.

The Democrats have been basing their last 50-years of political policy on making grand promises and then blaming anybody/anything else for why they're continually "forced" to break each and every one of those promises. I'd rather not see the Dems hitch their busted-ass wagon to any part of the marijuana 'cause'.

I do not get this frame of mind at all. If we would focus on one single big issue every election cycle and make the parties that are elected make good on it, then we would get much done and probably a lot quicker than voting for the two party split were all involved can continue the line of, "If you vote for me I'll fight for this and this and this, blah blah blah." That is how they keep on running so long and never getting anything done. Single issue voting is a powerful tool if enough people would use it correctly. Make sure it is a worthy issue and one that has great amounts of momentum at the time (IE: cannabis legality) and steamroll the shit head politicians with that issue. Of course no one in politics really wants to get shit done efficiently because they would have to trim the system quickly if there wasn't such long standing divided and problems that never quite get fixed. They know how to divide, and it seems like we all just get in one of the two pins they have set up for us and blest away until someone comes and feeds us more bullshit.

I'm not a single issue voter, but support for the failed war on drugs is a dealbreaker for me. Why would I vote for a candidate who wants to put me in prison?

My mayor, governor, and president are all Democrats who support prohibition and oppose legalization. My representative in the US congress, my two senators, and my local politicians are all Democrats who support prohibition and oppose legalization. If Democrats support legalization, I wonder why the ones in power fight so hard to keep this plant illegal.

All politicians, from both parties suck. This goes without saying. Nevertheless, decriminalization is the goal, by hook or by crook.

 Most people don't seem to understand that is true because of all the huge propaganda they are fed. But not voting is NOT apathy. When a person is confronted by only bad choices does that mean he should choose one of the bad ones? Why??

The US is a republic that has been hijacked by a select few and does NOT serve the interests of the majority, as was designed and intended by the framers. It is NOT democratic. It is rigged.

Cognitive dissonance has become the norm of the US citizen. We have come to accept that as just part of being an American. But that cannot sustain.

"You get what you vote for." Very not true. Campaign promises mean absolutely nothing. The only thing that makes any real sense
